JASON Lowe is urging Blackburn Rovers to finish the year on a high after proving they can grind out the ‘ugly’ wins he believes will be crucial to their promotion prospects.

The midfielder joined his manager Gary Bowyer in admitting that Rovers were far from at their best in the hard-fought 3-2 home victory over Millwall.

But Lowe will accept more performances like the one the produced at Ewood Park on Saturday if it means they continue to make up ground on the top six.

Rovers are now just six points behind the play-off places going into their final three games of 2013.

All three are against teams currently below Bowyer’s 11th-placed side – starting with this weekend’s trip to Yeovil Town and ending with home clashes against Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City.

And Lowe said: “It’s massive for us the next three games.

“It would be nice to go into the other side of the New Year with a bit of momentum rather than chasing toward the end of the season.”

Partly due to the atrocious conditions on Saturday Rovers were unable to match the high standards they had set one week earlier when drawing 0-0 at new leaders QPR.

But goals from Jordan Rhodes, Ben Marshall and David Dunn ensured they recorded their sixth home win of the season.

Lowe said: “We showed a lot of character, dug in at the end, and that’s what you’ve got to do in the Championship.

“When there’s one goal in it you’re never sure whether you’re going to get the win so when the third goal went in I thought we were home and dry.

“But they came back at us again.

“But we had the character and desire to keep them out at the end.

“It’s nice to know that we can play a lot better yet still come away with the three points.

“It was a great point at QPR and this was a good win. Yes it was not a classic, far from it.

“But we did the dirty side and the ugly side well and that makes it a good three points.”

Bowyer agreed with Lowe’s assessment.

He said: “We’ve played a lot better and lost so we’re happy with the character and resilience we showed against a tough Millwall team.

“I just didn’t think we passed the ball well enough by our standards.

“The conditions weren’t great although you have to give credit to the opposition.

“But I was pleased as we stuck at it and showed some fighting spirit again.”

Lee Williamson missed the match after injuring his foot against QPR.

But Bowyer is confident the midfielder will be fit to face Yeovil this Saturday.

Bowyer also confirmed that Josh King had come off with a dead leg and that Leon Best was absent after hurting his groin in training on Friday.
