DJ CAMPBELL will not feature for Blackburn Rovers against Millwall tomorrow but the club have not suspended the striker after his arrest and subsequent bail by police probing spot-fixing allegations in football matches.

Rovers said Campbell has been given ‘time off to spend with his family.’

The 32-year-old was among six people arrested on Sunday by the National Crime Agency and later bailed until April 2014.

Rovers boss Gary Bowyer was unable to comment on any questions relating to Campbell at yesterday’s press conference at Ewood Park.

But Bowyer did insist the furore surrounding the spot-fixing allegations has not had a detrimental effect on his team’s preparations for the Championship clash with Millwall.

He said: “It’s just been business as usual. We have just focused on what we can control – and that’s the training.

“And to be fair to the players they have trained magnificently this week – and this morning was no different. Our focus is Millwall.”

It remains unclear when or if Campbell will return to training with Rovers.

The former Blackpool and QPR forward has not been present at Brockhall this week.

His representatives have, however, been in discussions with Rovers and the club’s lawyers over his future. Rovers have also been in contact with the Football Association.

It is believed the club is awaiting guidance from the English’s game governing body.

Bowyer said: “Everyone in the footballing world has commented on how shocked and surprised they are and we’re no different as a football club or individually.

“It is something that the authorities will deal with and we are waiting to be directed by them.”

Campbell was one of four footballers currently on the books of Football League clubs arrested on Sunday – the other players being Oldham Athletic’s Cristian Montano and Tranmere Rovers duo Ian Goodison and Akpo Sodje.

Oldham have suspended Montano without pay while Tranmere manager Ronnie Moore yesterday confirmed that both Goodison and Akpo are available for selection for matches.

Rovers handed a statement to the Lancashire Telegraph ahead of the press conference with Bowyer.

Part of the statement said: “In light of this week’s events, Rovers can confirm that DJ Campbell has been given time off to spend with his family and therefore will not be involved in Saturday’s Championship fixture with Millwall at Ewood Park.

“The club will be making no further comment.”
