OH to be a Blackburn Rovers fan. Today we should still be reflecting on what was a hugely positive weekend for the club.

Instead we are digesting the news that has put Rovers back on the front pages of national newspapers for all the wrong reasons.

DJ Campbell’s alleged spot-fixing has taken the shine off Saturday’s excellent draw at QPR and diminished the excitement of being paired with former Premier League rivals Manchester City in Sunday’s draw for the FA Cup third round.

And the news comes at a time when the club is attempting to show the rest of the country that, after a campaign of a chaos, it is now a more stable proposition.

While the allegations concern Campbell as an individual, they must surely grate and disappoint those at Rovers who are determined to put the club back on the right track.

Not least boss Gary Bowyer.

Since being appointed Rovers’ permanent manager in May he more than anymore has brought some much needed positivity back to Ewood Park.

Yes there have been times when even someone as upbeat as Bowyer has not been able to get away from the negatives that surround the club and, which in some cases, are the club’s own making.

But while he would have expected to answer questions, for example, on the club’s concerning accounts for last season, he could never have predicted that one of his own players would be caught up in the scandal that has rocked English football.

The fact that Bowyer played Campbell against QPR just hours before his arrest is testament to that.

Bowyer, quite understandably, was keeping his counsel yesterday.

But now that Campbell has been released on bail, Bowyer along with all Rovers fans need to know what happens next.

Does Campbell return to training and will he be involved against Millwall on Saturday? Or is he facing a club suspension while the investigation continues?

Answers to these questions are needed fast as the longer they remain unanswered they will continue to cast a large and unwelcome shadow.
