Simon Garner column: Rovers mistakes must be so frustrating for Gary Bowyer

This Is Lancashire: Gary Bowyer Gary Bowyer

I FEEL for Gary Bowyer.

When his players take to the field he cannot do anything about the mistakes they keep on making away from home.

He can do the training all week and set his team out the way he wants them to play but once they cross the white line it’s out of his hands.

That 90 minutes must be the worst part of the week for a manager in many respects because there is only so much they can do.

Once the game ends, though, that’s when a manager can do something.

If it’s down to an individual mistake every now and again you’ve got to give the player in question the benefit of the doubt, put your arm around him and say, ‘right, forget about it and go out and put it right next week’.

But if a player keeps on making individual mistakes it might be time to leave him out.

In this league mistakes can mean the difference between being right on the edge of the play-offs and being mid-table.

No footballer goes out to make a mistake. They just happen sometimes. But at the moment Blackburn Rovers seem to be in the unfortunate position that every time they make one, the opposition are scoring.

You get times like that in a season and as I said, if one player keeps making the same mistakes then that’s the time to drop them.

Blackburn certainly can’t afford to make more errors at QPR tomorrow. This is going to be the toughest game of the season.

QPR are a Premier League side through and through – the players they’ve got there are quality. They’re on a roll and they’ve made Loftus Road a fortress.

That said Blackburn have still got to go there confident as, if they can cut out the individual errors, I see no reason why they cannot get a result – especially with Jordan Rhodes in their side.

It was good to see him back on the score sheet at Ipswich on Tuesday.

He’s a quality goalscorer and Rovers are going to need him tomorrow.

Is Eckersley playing? says...

It's quite simple, really. You see, if a player is no good, a club gets shut of him. Sometimes for free, sometimes for a small price. Now, Rovers, you see have umpteen of these players. They make too many mistakes because they aren't good enough and their clubs got shut of them or won't buy them in the first place. Messrs Venkys sold all the good ones - who make fewer mistakes - and got peoples cast offs because they wanted to do it all on the cheap. 'Gaz' can shout at his players, or call them all his pals, makes no difference. They are just not good enough and never will be. You get what you pay for in this world. Cheap players, cheap managers etc etc. Simple. really.

i don't accept that GB can't do anything about it once they cross the line....take them off, there seems to be no competition for places and some players are getting comfortable in their shirts....

i thought we played some good football against Leeds, but they follow that up with the sham we saw at Ipswich....can we turn QPR over...in my opinion based on our performances, NO!, in fact if we come away not being made to look stupid i would consider that a result.

buff this season and our squad up as much as you want....but the fact remains we're just not good enough to go up on our form thus far.
a note for the stay positive posse...i would love to be able to say "yes we are promotion contenders!" but i'm a realist....i don't live in lah lah land, i say what i see, and that is we're not going up.....unless that is we have a miraculous turn around in form, and to be honest i can't see it.

if we stay up this season then we may as well write next season off due to the embargo enforced on us by the useless FA, keep hold of what ever players want to stay and make a challenge for season 15/16....but we will need to change managers....just my opinion fellas!
