Kirkby Lonsdale president, Olivia Ley, along with the lady captain, Cathy Parsons, were the first duo to play the new Blue Course at their Barbon complex.

This has been specifically designed to allow juniors, beginners, ladies and senior members to enjoy their game without the rigours of the existing courses. which is extremely demanding.

The ladies course at Kirkby Lonsdale is the longest in Cumbria, and whilst the majority enjoy the challenge, the club believe it can be a deterrent to less able or more elderly players joining the club.

It will also become an integral part of the club’s junior coaching scheme and will assist in their efforts to achieve Golf Mark status.

This year, the club will be promoting Get into Golf which has been successful in other regions in bringing non-players into the game.

This new course will be instrumental in bringing players that are new to the game, up to scratch.
