Derby day key for out of form Rovers
10:30am Thursday 14th March 2013 in Sport
BLACKBURN Rovers have lost many of the reasons to be really proud about their football club over the past couple of years – but one bragging right remains intact.
Rovers entertain East Lancashire rivals Burnley at Ewood Park on Sunday having not lost to them for 34 years and it is something they have been able to hold over the Clarets, despite a calamitous fall from grace.
It would seem though that many supporters see victory against Burnley on Sunday as far more important than any place at Wembley.
This match is their chance to stamp their superiority over their rivals and give them something to shout about over them, at last.
There is no doubt what it means to the supporters but we won’t know what it means to the players until we see them go at it on Sunday lunchtime.
When Rovers played Burnley in the Premier League, their quality ultimately told but this time you get the feeling it will be the team that fights the hardest who will secure the bragging rights.
At the moment surely not even the staunchest of Rovers or Burnley fans would argue against the fact that neither of their sides are particularly good at the moment. The Championship table tells us that.
Neither Sean Dyche or Michael Appleton have been completely taken to the hearts of their supporters and, make no mistake, a local derby win could go a long way to winning some popularity stakes.
Opinion certainly seems to be split on Appleton with some pointing to his record as simply not good enough and others confident, in time, he will get it right. A win on Sunday would surely help in making the latter group bigger.
A defeat is unthinkable for Rovers fans though.
Defeat would also leave Rovers looking anxiously over their shoulders at the relegation zone. Appleton has continually stressed one of his priorities is to bring the feel-good factor back to Ewood Park and there is no better way to do that than by beating Burnley. If things had been different, Appleton could even have been lining up in the away team dug out on Sunday.
Neither team go into Sunday’s derby in good league form but what better way to spark a turnaround? For the losers, a difficult end to the campaign could be in store.

MA was also appointed by an opaque procedure and for reasons that will never be made public.
Prior to the Pope's appointment no one had ever heard of him and commentators were left to say only that he came from an obscure place that had collapsed financially.
No one knows what his game plan is and when he spoke to his followers it was all a foreign language to them.
Both men are expected to spend a great deal of time going down on their knees to pray for a miracle, although rather more often in MA's case.
The Pope wears a very silly hat. MA would be much improved by wearing a hat no matter how silly.
Of course, the parallels come to an end. The Pope's boss is God, MA's boss only thinks he is God. The Pope being an Argentinian likes passing football and would never just hoof long balls down the pitch all day long hoping for favours from above.
Above all the new Pope is expected to be in office for years to come whereas MA will be lucky to still be clinging on come Pentecost (19 May).

If we lose on Sunday, I think he needs to go. That will be no wins in 8 matches - that's relegation form and we all know it.
Gary Bowyer actually brought back some pride, optimism and a sense of identity back to the club and certainly seemed to get the best out of the players. Sack the clueless idiot and get Gary back in for the remainder.
Appleton seems to talk a good game and many of us found his comments refreshing and honest, especially when he talked of the mess that Kean had created. However, since then, he's been found out with regards to being tactically inept, he is motionless on the touchline and doesn't seem to have anything about him really. He is uninspiring so how can he motivate his players?
Get rid now or it's league 1 next season and that will see the few quality players leave and we'll be left with Bradley Orr, Jason Lowe and Marcus Olson. The end is nigh!

Appleton - League 1 Manager
Venky's - Rich owners who have put alot of money into the club but still continue to take advise from the wrong people i.e Shaw
Millwall's highest transfer fee 750,000 our's 8million
Millwalls highest earner around 10.000 our's around 45,000
We have the players and the money to walk this league what we dont have anymore is a good experienced manager with a good boardroom above him.
Only Venks can change this, but im not convinced they know how to or who to take advise from!!

And my goodness we've well and truly ruined Rhodes. When will Appleton realise that he won't win a header from an aerial ball unless its against defenders who are about 4ft tall. Ridiculous tactics tonight and it didn't change one bit after half time. No different questions posed to the Millwall defence, no kitchen sink no nothing. On the bright side I can't see any serious bids from Premier League clubs for Rhodes in the summer. He looks completely lost at the moment. 'Rhodes scores when he wants' - hmm?. Pedersen looks finished, Lowe isn't advancing for me and Martin Olsson looks half the player he was in the Premier League (granted he wasn't fully fit tonight). You always think he's going to take on a full back and then 9 times out of 10 backs out of it. Badly missed Formica and/or Rochina tonight. What a mess getting rid of those two. Only positive tonight was Dunn's passion and possibly Leon Best's efforts. But, most of the time Dann and Hanley just cut Dunn out of the equation and launched it in hope. No hope.
I'm always one to give managers time, but I'm seriously worried that Appleton is out of his depth. His comments after the Leicester match when he said he told the players at half time not to go out and lose 5-0 concern me greatly. Not positive management - it was only 2-0 with always that opportunity to get something out of a game no matter how woeful a first half you perform. And the performance on Sunday was not 'absolutely outstanding'. He obviously has very low standards. And which bright spark at the club decided to let Simon Vuckevic go without even gaining so much as a fee? Another player we could have done with tonight.
I dread to think what will happen on Sunday. If we don't get our act together we'll find ourselves in League One next year. And trust me I watched lots of League One games at Charlton in the last two years before they were promoted and it's a dreadful, dreadful league for a club of any stature to be part of. But, if that's what it takes to rebuild the club without the Venky's and Shebby Singh then so be it. Can't believe it's come to this.

Poor
poor team
poor tactics
poor management
poor midfield yet again
MA.... the problem with....!!
'' A study of Neanderthal skulls suggests that they went extinct because they had larger eyes than our species.
As a result, more of their brain was devoted to seeing in the long, dark nights in Europe, at the expense of high-level processing. ''
Its quite obvious MA cant do it in the long run for BRFC....!
& MA is quite thick.....
no brain cells in big head...!!
'' MA can def. see in the long dreary dark night's with his big bulging eyes which is obvious but can he see us through.....!!!!
but the vital question is can he process the info out there which is plain to see for all and come up with an action plan and see us through to the end of this season and beyond....! ''
I doubt it.....!!!
thats 7 defeats already and counting.
MA is a gonner if we lose against Burnley....!!
MA is an expert at draws..!
check the stats....! sh...te..!
we cant have this at BRFC,
sorry see this season out
or let him go....!! & start afresh...!
and we need a new proper manager
and new midfielders...!!!
get rid of the elderly OAPs
its a young mans game...!!!
A new set of youngish, hard working, physically fit, skillfull Midfielders required at BRFC.
what do you think...?????
2 great servants will have to Retire.
Pederson is just too slow PLZ retire
Dunn played well tonight but def in his last season and well be lucky if he plays a couple of games.
sorry is just mostly unfit...PLZ retire..!
but Dunny should play v burnley.
cos hes a local lad with pride.
this will be his - DD- Cup final
and ours of course...!!!
The Burnley game will define our season.....!!
Hanley is slow but tries his utmost to do a decent job.
but not good enough for long term.
His thinking is also slow and hes simply not good enough as a 1st team player but ok to have in BRFC squad.
Lowe is slow but tries his utmost
& should be ok as a squad member and occasional sub but not 1st team material in my view.
Marcus olson is like a fairy lightweight
only need to blow on him and he falls
Past it players ...plz Just GO...!!!
Murthy, Etuhu, Orr, Givet, Robinson
and any other causing BRFC issues should leave asap...PLZ
so we can buy players who will play for the BRFC badge....!
not just here for money....!!
Dann is not the ideal captain
In fact we have no captain at BRFC
hence we need to find a strong central defensive partner for Dann
who should be a capable central defender & hopefully be a potential captain.
and
a midfield general or 2 who we need as leaders in the middle as that's our problem area and a capable ball winning captain in the center should sort things out.....for sure...!!
what do you think...!!!!

1.If Burnley don't score, we can't lose.
2 If Burnley score, try to hold the score down to 1-0.
3 We need to score to win, so get the ball to Rhodes in a way that he can use - hold on, that's a bit beyond Apple's tactical abilties.
So it looks like 1 and 2 are the only options for Apple.
Apple's master plan is to hope we have enough points to stay up on goal difference.

I would actually go as far as to say we are one of the worst teams in all the football league. MA has destroyed our attack force to the extent where we are having between 0-2 shots on target per game. I've watched Oldham, Bradford, Luton town playing teams WAY out of thier league and they create a threat every now and then and get some shots on target, we have NO THREAT WHATSOEVER.
The football has declined to the point at which now, it is becoming a chore to go and sit and watch the team defend for 90 mins. Appleton must go and LET needs to back the fans this time around. If we need to start with the annoying protests again and boycott games so be it.
Frankly I bought an ST this year in the hope of a bit of a turn around, I wont be as willing to part with my cash for next seasons tickets. I really do hope that we can have an empty stadium next year if MA carries on in charge and Venkys continue to strip the club of any talent.

I always want to give a new manager a chance and I still don't blame Appleton for what is going on down at Ewood but enough is enough, but after last night I am starting to question his capability to turn things around, especially with so many good managers, experienced at this level out on the market.
The majority of the fans booing at the end of last nights game were not the BRAG bully boys, they were the hard core Rovers fans who will stand by the club through thick and thin, and when they start showing dissent to that level then I suspect the limit has finally been reached.
Burnley are a poor team, nothing short of a win is acceptable.

Venkys, how about admitting your original mistakes and go cap-in-hand back to John Williams and Tom Finn and offer them their old jobs back. Yes, they were on high salaries, but surely now you can see that their considerable experience meant that they were delivering value for money. If you pay peanuts then you get monkeys like Vineeth Rao, Shebby Singh, Paul Agnew and Derek Shaw.

Getting stuck in to the Manager, not had this much fun since SK quit have you
Granted we were s**t last night and I was as sipped off as anyone on Ewood, freezing my bits off to watch that dross but
To those that say Appy is tactically inept and negative then how come we started 442 . Most posts have slagged off 451 and said Rhodes needed support but when Appy does that he is a clown.
Then in the second half he throws on Gomez and goes 433 but you say he didnt change anything...oh and conspiracy days Gomez out for non football reasons
I dont say it went well, but the players have to take responsibilty for keep knocking it long
Appy picked the best he had available and because of real injuries and a lack of support in the Jan window from our super owners
The witch hunting on here is driven as usual by the Negative dingle agenda
Usual suspects on the post
To the numptys (2 of you) who were giving Grant Hanley grief and obscene gestures at full time, hang your heads in shame. Hanley was one of the ones who tried and had a good game. It is fans like you that give us Rovers a bad name. Supporter means for life, not just when we win
Dont bother with all Venkys have ruined our club rhetoric, yes they have but it is all just an excuse for wimping out !
Bring on the Dingles,

If we can just stay up this season and just hope Appleton has a little bit of money behind him to make big changes to the squad in the summer, then his capabilities should be judged. It's harsh to label him as 'tactically inept' and 'out of his depth' at this point. He's one of the few trying to make things happen here.
My opinion might change out of anger after sunday but my sane opinion is that.

This match on Sunday is the defining moment of the season for Rovers, win and we can consolidate our league status and start looking towards building for next season and also - and some would day more importantly - we go to 35 years without a defeat by the claret monkeys.
For over a century now we have fought them on the beaches and on the terraces, we have fought them in the streets and in and outside of the pubs, in the parks and on the trains (and even in Accrington) and we have never, ever surrendered - never!
And we never will.
Rally round the Rovers on Sunday and show some unity and support instead of the derision and division we have seen and heard recently.
Show the scummers off the buses from the dark side that they all had a wasted journey and that contrary to all the many reports of our demise - show them that the Rovers are still very much alive and kicking!

How can Burnley be worse than Stanley who are bottom of the whole football league?? Meanwhile you spout garbage about fighting them on the beaches, yet you have run off to the country which has a long history of surrendering at the drop of a hat. Very apt!
