FULL TIME: Blackburn Rovers 0 Millwall 1
9:23pm Wednesday 13th March 2013 in Sport
BLACKBURN Rovers’ hopes of an appearance at Wembley in the FA Cup semi finals were ended by a home defeat to Millwall in tonight’s quarter final replay at Ewood Park.
Danny Shittu’s 42nd-minute header gave Millwall a 1-0 win over a disappointing Rovers side.
The Lions will now face Wigan in the semi finals at Wembley next month, as Rovers’ 18-year wait for a trip to England’s national stadium goes on.
Michael Appleton’s side are now seven matches without a win as they go into Sunday’s Championship derby at home to East Lancashire rivals Burnley, whose boss Sean Dyche was at Ewood Park tonight.
Rovers, who had brought the tie back to Lancashire after Sunday’s 0-0 draw at the Den, had gone close to taking the lead in a tight first half when David Dunn lofted an angled effort just wide of the far post.
But Millwall went ahead when centre back Shittu headed in Chris Taylor’s corner three minutes before half time – the first goal Rovers had conceded in the FA Cup this season, after four previous clean sheets.
Rovers, without David Bentley for the game because of a knee injury, introduced Nuno Gomes at the interval and later handed a debut to January signing Anton Forrester.
Leon Best, moved to the left flank at the start of the second half, almost levelled the match but saw his shot was cleared off the line by Shane Lowry.
Taylor blazed over a chance to make it 2-0 in stoppage time.
Rovers: Jake Kean; Jason Lowe, Scott Dann, Grant Hanley, Markus Olsson (Nuno Gomes 46); Josh King (Anton Forrester 75), David Dunn, Morten Gamst Pedersen, Martin Olsson; Jordan Rhodes, Leon Best. Subs not used: Greg Sandomierski, Gael Givet, Karim Rekik, John O’Sullivan, David Goodwillie.
Millwall: David Forde; Alan Dunne, Danny Shittu, Mark Beevers, Shane Lowry; Liam Trotter, Jack Smith, Chris Taylor; Andy Keogh, Rob Hulse (John Marquis 85), Dany N’Guessan (Nadjim Abdou 66). Subs not used: Maik Taylor, Adam Smith, Karleigh Osborne, George Saville, Nathan Tyson.
Referee: Mark Clattenburg.

I suppose, relatively speaking, he has only had the job for 5 minutes, but he doesn't appear to have any pattern of play. We have some good attackers who are being totally wasted.
Sunday looks like being an even bigger disaster.

Rovers were absolutely clueless! You were worse than Burnley on Monday night against Hull. It's not your manager, this is down to the players themselves. You could see Appy looking on in utter despair. There was no sign of motivation whatsoever. You're playing for a chance to go to Wembley in the FA Cup, and all you got was total capitulation.
Dunny's frustration had him in tears at the end, and I don't blame him, because it looked like the rest of his colleagues couldn't have cared less. Disorganised, uninspirational, and utterly lethargic.
Bring on Sunday!

Appleton not up to the task of bringing the club back to where it should be. The long ball tactics are shockingly bad and between that and the lack of urgency in attack makes it easy for the opposition to defend against us.
Can't see any winning potential in this side. Certain players not earning their money, ie Pedersen.
Only a potential relegation battle to look forward with this run of form we're on.
Shambles...
We could go on and on about things over the past few year; choice of managers and those running the club and it's all been said before but its so hard not to rant.
It's going to be a long road back to the Premier League...

Now is the time we seriously need to be considering next year's push, now is the time to get the players up to speed on the strategies the manager intends to use, to iron out any kinks and work out what is required in the transfer window.
I now do not think Appleton is the man to rebuild and make that push for promotion next season, in fact based on his games since Arsenal I'd say he's the man to lead us into a relegation battle. I have long argued against fans claiming all we need is experience as if it is the holy grail of management but I'm now beginning to believe they're right. We need a manager who's been here and won promotion.
Venky's take note: Brian Mcdermott has this experience and is looking for work, make him an offer he can't refuse then back him with the cash to get the players he needs.

The Olssons and Lowe are useless and there is no link-up with the forwards. We play way too deep and the ball doesn't get into the opposition's box for Rhodes to touch it, never mind score.

Look on the bright side. Would you want to see that team tonight on national TV or pay £100 plus to see them at Wembley? Let Millwall have there moment of glory and let the world see how numbingly cr@p they are too.

At least a semi final cant gloss over what has been a poor season with a poor side and i am now doubting wether our 5th manager this year has got any idea either. God help us on Sunday as I have had every ounce of hope and belief taken away bit by bit during every game ive seen this season and beyond. A once proud club is no longer as two years of miss-management has eaten away like a cancer and I fear we are just another Leeds, Sheff Wed, Forrest,Coventry only our demise was self inflicted and did not need to happen. Hope you are pleased with yourselves Venkeys. God im fed up!!

Surely no one can now pedal the line that his "honesty" and "direct talk" is anything other than a PR stunt.
Jordan Rhodes is our only hope and prefers the ball played through to him in the area on the ground. So Apple's tactic is to get the ball hoofed down the field where Danny Shittu, who has all the ball skills on the ground of a hippo, gobbles up the punts all night long.
Apple hasn't a clue. But as I said from the start, he's not here for the footie.
Rovrs were so demoralised I wouldn't be at all surprised to see us relegated.

The first thing they need to do tomorrow, is have a look at the league table and wake up to the fact that we are only SIX POINTS FROM THE BOTTOM. We have two local derbies, followed by two difficult away games. Failure to win any of these games, and you can't rule that out, will put us in serious danger of relegation.
Appleton never was, and never will be the man for the job. He will take us down. I'd get shut now and put GB in charge until the end of the season, and then get a proven experienced manager. How f******* difficult is it? FFS!

Gutted.

Appleton’s must be tactically inept.
Everyone in the crowd could see that the Millwall central defenders (and Danny Shittu in particular) were winning everything in the air yet we continued to pump more and more high balls into their box.
Why is he selecting players who are not fit?
Only a few weeks ago he was telling us that our squad was far too big.
I felt sorry for Dunny who ran himself into the ground but where do we go from here?
That is just 2 goals scored in the past 7 games and both of them came in the same game against Peterborough when we were 3 down after 27 minutes.
The pressure is on Appleton now to deliver for the Burnley game.
If we lose that I dread to think what will happen.
Relegation is edging closer and closer.

Okay, let's look at the form factor for both teams as it currently stands for the last 6 games.
Blackburn: L, D, L, L, L, D.
Burnley: L, D, W, L, L, D.
Burnley edge it better than what Millwall did tonight. Also, Burnley's away form is better than at home, and as one poster put it earlier, they are hungry for a win. All the signs are there, winking ominously at Rovers. Portents, omens, rumblings and shrieking winds, The world is turning, and all is in flux. i simply do not know the answer to the problem as venkys will not go anywhere.
poor jordan rhodes looks a forlorn figure. with his goals we have managed to win games but he has been destroyed mentally and i cannot see him scoring many more this season.
we hoof the ball to rhodes best or whoever hope they can do some magic and create something.
we do not use the midfield and i know why . we have not got any footballers who can win back the ball or find a telling pass to the forwards.
we have this big game on sunday and i am sure burnley will be up for it with their big following. our fans will be nervous and anxious and if it does not go well first half hour this will relay to the players. i cannot see rovers winning on sunday and fear the worst RELEGATION to the third tier.
what happens after that even nostradamus could not predict.
very sorry sad state of affairs.
blackburn is a crumbling town the only ray of light was the football club but that light is fading fast.you can blame appleton who it totally out of his depth , but the damage was done long ago. in fact i really do feel sorry for michael. the only consolation for him is that he is being paid a lot of money.

Dunn played well tonight but def in his last season and well be lucky if he plays a couple of games.

Hanley is slow but tries his utmost to do a decent job.
but not good enough for long term.
His thinking is also slow and hes simply not good enough as a 1st team player but ok to have in BRFC squad.
Lowe is slow but tries his utmost
& should be ok as a squad member and occasional sub but not 1st team material in my view.
Marcus olson is like a fairy lightweight
only need to blow on him and he falls
Murthy, Etuhu, Orr, Givet, Robinson
and any other causing BRFC issues should leave asap...PLZ
so we can buy players who will play for the BRFC badge....!
not just here for money....!!
Dann is not the ideal captain
Infact we have no captain at BRFC
hence we need to find a strong central defensive partner for Dann
who should be a capable central defender & could be a potential captain.
and
a midfield general or 2 who we need as leaders in the middle as that's our problem area and a capable ball winning captain in the center should sort things out.....for sure...!!

Can't see us beating any Championship side at the moment. Hope we don't fall through the trap door at the end of the season into League One. On this showing it's not impossible.
A truly appalling performance, Appletons long ball tactics with a team completely unsuited to that style of play leaves you in disbelief. I suppose, relatively speaking, he has only had the job for 5 minutes, but he doesn't appear to have any pattern of play. We have some good attackers who are being totally wasted. One small crumb of consolation, albeit a very small one; is the fact that we won't have to put up with all that media and Dingle criticism about a less than half full Wembley stadium for the semi-final. I personally gave up on tonight after about 70 minutes and would have taken the full time whistle there and then having fully resigned myself to the fact that we were never going to come anywhere near getting a sniff of a goal with those abysmal tactics added to Milwall's annoying but totally predictable time-wasting. If Wigan had beaten us tonight I would still want them to get to the final. Hope football prevails and they do. Also hope they stay up too. A small but well run club punching above their weight year after year with an excellent and honest manager and backed by an equally honest proper 'football' chairman. Everything we used to be!!!! Good luck in the semi DW....!
he has an excellent relationship with Martinez which is something I bet Michael Appleton doesn't have with our chairman and I bet he still hasn't even met Shebbi tosspot.

Incidently, I was drinking with Dunny (he was on orange juice all evening) a week or so before the last meeting between our teams, and he was desperate to get fit in time for the game, but knew he wouldn't be ready, he was out injured with his knee. I am utterly devastated that my beloved team - the love of my life for over 50 years - is struggling so badly with little hope of anything much changing anytime soon. Its a disaster zone with terrible performances and worse results and to say I dont recognise that is a very poor and cheap jibe.
BTW I am not an Appy Clapper (which is a really stupid term anyway) - for me as long as it is not SK that is in charge then I don`t really care who the manager is as long as they can do a half decent job over time.
When Appleton came in most fans rightly reserved judgement and said that things were such a mess at the Rovers that MA should be given at least a full season to sort them out.
Then quite a lot of fans posted some mild praise on here in recognition that MA was slowly sorting the defense out, and we started keeping clean sheets (when we had forgotten what one looked like) and fans praised his straight talking style as we [picked up a couple of wins and added a couple of much needed players like Jones.
Plus he dropped Murphy who has been a disgrace. Well done MA most people said.
Then we lost three on the trot and suddenly he is the worst manager in the world.
At no time have we played well and that stretches back for almost three seasons. Not sure how you can expect any manager to change that overnight? Not realistic.
A dog isn`t just for christmas Marghen,
you have to keep him long term and hope he works the tricks out. Certainly you don`t get rid of him after a few weeks cos he is not doing exactly what you want.
With injuries to key players and the loss of form and fitness of those who are available - then there isn`t much to shout about for sure. But to ditch manager after manager is not the solution.
For me there are two aims now for the rest of the season:
1) Beat the scum on sunday
2) Don`t get relegated.
If we achieve those two aims then that is probably all we can hope for or salvage this season out of the wreckage that our club is now and for which only the Vs are to blame.

Sell valuable players (Jones, Samba),Get rid of experianced players on lucrative contracts , don't play remaining ones(who knows what "games played payments" clauses they have?) , back fill with loans and cheap deals. Do the sums and even with the Rhodes transfer & big wages to Gomez and Murphy (brought in to fool fans that they attract big names), they're still quid in
Appoint clueless but obedient managers/execs who take a wage (with no "kiss and tell when they get the bullet" clauses in their contracts). Their clueless guidance will achieve their ultimate goal.
Cut scouting / training / catering budgets , apparently the training pitches at Brockhall are in a bad way now.
Let's be honest most footballers don't have much between their ears and will be easily bought out and silenced for money
Their ultimate owners goal is to run the club into the ground , take all the assets and if this means the end of Blackburn Rovers as a going concern then so be it, they won't give a toss.
If this was a fashionable club or a London club, the press would be all over it. I know Jack Straw and Graham Jones (an old school friend of mine) have tried to raise this in parliament but they have no real power where it matters.
Mark my words , there is a real possibility that in 4 or 5 years time, we could be faced with one of the founder members of the football league going out of business and getting a 1 hour documentary on channel5 entitled "Blackburn Rovers The Death Of A Football Club".
No doubt many will look at my comments and dismiss it as doom mongering or glass half empty , but put your hand on your heart and tell me where else in 2 and a half years has so much happened so quickly without a glimmer of hope?
Maybe as other posters have said its time Andy Cryer did some proper investigative journalism and came up with some findings, rather than just trotting out the same garbage week after week. Unless of course he's being paid "keep quiet" money
Last night was the best indication yet of my theories, badly trained, badly coached players , with no guidance (I sat in the J.Walker last night and Appleton didn't live one single pass, tackle or half chance and looked totally disinterested).
I believe 95% of staff are going through the motions , with the exception of Dunny who saw his last chance of a wembley appearance fizzle out in a damp squid of an inept performance and don't give a toss attitude.
Does anyone else see what I see?

A chance to play at Wembley doesnt come around that often, yet they were so, so amateurish.
Football teams pay for analysts, can somebdy please tell me the success rate of a Jake Kean free kicks, goal kicks or kicks out of his hands?
That's just one example, yet this week you had a team making glaringly obvious errors and fundamental flaws with the uncommon luxury of playing the exact same team 4 days later at home, and no improvement was seen?
That is unforgivable!!

Poor
poor team
poor tactics
poor management
poor midfield yet again
MA.... the problem with....!!
'' A study of Neanderthal skulls suggests that they went extinct because they had larger eyes than our species.
As a result, more of their brain was devoted to seeing in the long, dark nights in Europe, at the expense of high-level processing. ''
Its quite obvious MA cant do it in the long run for BRFC....!
'' MA can def. see in the long dreary dark night's with his big bulging eyes which is obvious but can he see us through.....!!!!
but the vital question is can he process the info out there which is plain to see for all and come up with an action plan and see us through to the end of this season and beyond....! ''
I doubt it.....!!!
thats 7 defeats already and counting.
MA is a gonner if we lose against Burnley....!!
MA is an expert at draws..!
check the stats....! sh...te..!
we cant have this at BRFC,
sorry see this season out
or let him go....!! & start afresh...!
and we need a new proper manager
and new midfielders...!!!
get rid of the elderly OAPs
its a young mans game...!!!
A new set of youngish, hard working, physically fit, skillfull Midfielders required at BRFC.
what do you think...?????
2 great servants will have to Retire.
Pederson is just too slow PLZ retire
Dunn played well tonight but def in his last season and well be lucky if he plays a couple of games.
sorry is just mostly unfit...PLZ retire..!
but Dunny should play v burnley.
cos hes a local lad with pride.
this will be his - DD- Cup final
and ours of course...!!!
The Burnley game will define our season.....!!
Past it players ...plz Just GO...!!!
Murthy, Etuhu, Orr, Givet, Robinson
and any other causing BRFC issues should leave asap...PLZ
so we can buy players who will play for the BRFC badge....!
not just here for money....!!
Dann is not the ideal captain
In fact we have no captain at BRFC
hence we need to find a strong central defensive partner for Dann
who should be a capable central defender & hopefully be a potential captain.
and
a midfield general or 2 who we need as leaders in the middle as that's our problem area and a capable ball winning captain in the center should sort things out.....for sure...!!
what do you think...!!!!

Enter Henning Berg. Positively breathtaking !
Then you go and sack him. Oh no !
Along comes the star mercenary Appleton.
OMG it surely can't get any better, can it.
We shouldn't really laugh as we've had Laws, Howe and Dyche ........not one of 'em Manager of the Month.
The big difference is we're not going anywhere but you're plummeting to the depths. Who knows where/when you'll stop ?
Priceless.

Sunday looks like being an even bigger disaster.

walshy2866 wrote:Absolutely spot on , the only thing I disagree with is that it will 4 or 5 years before Rovers go out of business ! I,d put it at 2 to 3 max with the current set up . No T V revenue, gates falling thru the floor , unsustainable wage bill, do the sums , you don't need to be Einstein to work it out , if things don't change drastically we,re f""ked !
As I've said all along, there's a lot more to this than meets the eye. This is a calculated and well planned exercise to de-commission the club we love by the owners.

The team responded...the majority of fans were happy to give him a fair...it seems there are so many "bleeders" on board with self interests that a "right" decision for the club now seems in thing of the past....like a load of gatecrashers at a wedding....no one interested in the future of the bride & groom !!!
What can you expect when the owners and their advisors are both clueless about professional football and all making hay while the sun does shine !!
Not a good like while the Venky,s are onboard !
