Late Eagles winner sinks Rovers

FORMER Burnley star Chris Eagles broke Blackburn Rovers' hearts last night with an injury-time strike to all-but end any lingering play-off hopes.

Leon Best made his long-awaited Blackburn Rovers debut last night but it was Bolton still dreaming of an instant Premier League return after a dramatic finale.

Best was introduced with 10 minutes remaining, having missed the whole season with a cruciate knee ligament injury, and will be in contention for Sunday's FA Cup quarter final at Millwall.

Grant Hanley hit the bar twice for Rovers in last night's defeat with Bolton as Appleton's men reacted reasonably well to Saturday's shambles.

There was little from either side going forward, until a frantic last 10 minutes, but Rovers looked solid throughout as they prepared for their FA Cup clash in determined style.

Both sides had chances to win the game in the last 10 minutes but the defeat leaves Rovers 11 points adrift of the play-off places.

Look up? Is this an acknowledgement of Rovers being above you for the last 30 years including a Premier League title, a league cup, countless cup semi finals and countless top 10 finishes? Enjoy your 3 point lead, I'm sure you will die happy.

How is that bitter? Top dogs? I'll say this about the clarets, you are always good value. I'm 38 and I can't remember you beating us.

Certainly did not deserve to lose that one!

Ok, we're not ripping defences apart (yet lol!), but we played like a team wanting to win.

I can't remember the last time we put so many big tackles in. Lowe is a different player with Jones with him. It's amazing the difference Jones makes to the midfield, simply illustrating how poor Murphy is (in this league).

Disappointed? Only because of the lateness of the goal.

Despondant? No.

There were some good performances tonight and a lot of spirit shown. Thought it was a good game, well contested.....

I think you've pretty well summed it up there.
Would have liked to see Best come on a bit earlier in the game.

,the purpose of loans is that they make an immediate impact, otherwise, they should only be there as a last resort as cover or used sparingly to rest a first team player, they should not be used as if they are replacements at the expense of players that are already owned by the club, especially when they are far less experienced, no better than what they have at the club already, loan players are no guarantees may not make the grade or may have to return to their parent club and the process of developing players has to start all over again, so much time and efforts is wasted behind a players and someone else reaps the benefit, this is one of the reasons why you shouldnt be too dependent on loan players

one good thing about the new players is that have come in on loan only, early signs show they are they are not as good as we would have expected, or the style of play rovers are adopting is not suited to their strengths, its by force of circumstances that appleton was unable to spend money in january, if he had the opportunity it would have been certainly be wasted on inferior players, a sign of good manager is extracts the most ability out of the players club at his disposal does nt give up on them without at least even giving them a chance to lay a claim for a spot in the team, in the transfer market he only brings in someone if they are going to bring in something new, something we dont already have, which improves the overall level of quality of the squad.

I knew Appleton had no idea when he came and began telling us that Bradley Orr was a good fullback. As for the players not performing it's because that is as good as they are you can't play better than you're capable of playing. I think it's time to change the club motto, how about CAECI CAECOS DUCENTES I think that means in Latin ''the blind leading the blind''

.
