Boss Appleton praises sub Dave after Ewood horror

MICHAEL Appleton believes Dave Jones’ second half contribution put many of his team-mates to shame on Saturday – after praising the impact of all three of his half time substitutes.

Trailing 3-0 at the break to lowly Peterborough, Appleton handed debuts to Cameron Stewart, on loan from Hull, Wigan’s Jones as well as introducing Adam Henley to the action.

Danny Murphy, David Bentley and Bradley Orr made way for the trio with Appleton hoping the second half efforts – bringing the match back to 3-2 – can prove a platform for tomorrow’s trip to Bolton.

Central midfielder Jones only completed his loan move on the morning of the game and Appleton is looking forward to having the 28-year-old available until the end of the season.

He was also excited about the prospect of having 21-year-old Stewart available for selection, after signing him from Hull on loan until the end of the season on Friday.

Appleton said: “The way they went about it in the second half was a positive show. The three substitutions made an impact. The two loanees did ever so well in the first game and at least it gives me something positive going into a massive derby.

“The three substitutes were magnificent when they came on. Jonah got his goal and he was first to every second ball, he was competitive, he was supporting the back four, he was supporting the front players. What you want from your midfield players. He has shown a desire and commitment that probably embarrassed a few people.

“Obviously Cameron is a young lad with a slight frame. He has good feet, good balance, he has a change of gear, a change of pace, and when he gets on the ball in certain areas he can hurt teams.

“Possibly they are with a view to next season. It is like anything, we will keep an open mind. If they come in and do ever so well then there is always that opportunity. Jonah is going to be out of contract so you never know.”

Appleton remains hopeful of adding to his squad again this week, with former Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson training with the club at the moment.

Thomson, a central midfielder, is a free agent having been released by Middlesbrough in January and Appleton is yet to make a final decision on him.

He said: “He has trained for a few days with us and we wanted to see where he was fitness wise. Since he left Middlesbrough he has been doing a bit at Hibs, so we will see where he is.

“We need permission and if we get it we will look to do it.”

I didn't know Dave Jones was called Jonah but he will be the Messiah if he carries on playing as he did on Saturday (and joins us at the end of the season too). It sounds like he can play in central defence too but is desperately needed in midfield.

hopefully MA you and Murphy (and the watching Venky bro's) will be a bit embarrassed too - that a Wigan rejectee has come in and run the team and got MoM by a mile. Jones has to start tomorrow night. If Murphy starts tomorrow then I give up. Same for Orr.

Kean
Henley Hanley Dann Lowe
Nunes Jones Pederson Stewart
Rhodes Gomes

A strong 2nd half performance from Dave Jones.
He did exactly what Murphy should have been doing all season.

Now move Lowe to full back and bring in another midfielder.

David Bentley never had a great deal of speed as a winger so he may be worth a try in the centre spraying balls out wide.
However, he wlll need to get fit to play in that role.

Please play Nuno Gomes - he look good playing behind Rhodes at the start of the season and weighed in with some important goals.

To be fair, a lot of us, myself included,, thought Murphy would be an excellent signing for the club, bringing valuable experience and an eye for a pass to our shell-shocked, relegated team. Sadly he hasn't been able to make an impact in the majority of the games he has played, so he needs to be left out.

Just thought i'd say......!!!
facts and figures.....!!! approx.

it would cost at least 35-50 M to buy BRFC,.....??????

To get us out of Championship it would cost at least 20- 30 M to get the players to achieve promotion
3- 5m for a decent player at least
and we need at least 6 players

and
it would cost at least 40-60 M to run a decent team in premiership
around 5 -7m - per player
and we would need 6-7...!!

and every year you'd have to spend atleast 10 -15 M to stay in Prem.

Anyone out there got that sort of money...??
Anyone know anyone with that amount
willing to invest in BRFC...?

One thing for sure No honest /real businessman would bother....!!!

our 'Uncle Jack Walker' did it but he didnt do it for the money
he did it because he was a fan
he was a supporter of BRFC
he gave all he got for his beloved BRFC.

Anyone out there willing and able to give some support and love to our BRFC these days.....!!!...??
The least we should should ask for .!
The badge the honour....,,BRFC.
it seems as if many people cant even give their much needed support and be a fan of this great club these days...!!!

Blame everyone else....on earth...!
but not ourselves..!

He JW gave all to the club and got his rewards.
Unfortunately, many people have forget that. What did JW do ..!
We need to learn from JW and give what we are able to give and that for most is just the bare minimum which is the essential fan base... is the support.. of the supporters....
our support for BRFC must be for ever...for the club
and we should continue supporting through thick and thin and especially through this difficult transition....!!
lets hope we can come through all this but it will need the support of the fans.

Uncle Jack did it and showed us how it can be done....!!
so lets learn from the lessons our Uncle Jack who gave all to the club and the least people should do is be a fan and support the club...BRFC needs U all.

And thank God he 'Uncle Jack' achieved what few teams in England have done in the history of Premiership.
That is to win it, we are in an elite club of teams who have won it.
Maybe we will never win it again.
but our dream lives on to get back into the big time...One day, sooner then later. Hopefully next year.

The other side of the coin is the vastly increased revenue in the PL compared to the Championship, even more now than when the Rovers were relegated. Of course a large proportion of that needs to be spent on player wages.

Appleton throws kippers at the fans and we all applaud and call him "ballsy" and "speaks the truth". Last week on here when we lost to Hull a lot of fans were saying "WHY DOESNT MA NAME AND SHAME SOME PLAYERS LIKE DANNY MURPHY". Looks like MA was reading and decided he might win the fans over with that approach. Frankly I cant really see what publically slandering your captain in the media does to help matters. All he has done is made a rod for his own back if he ever plays Murphy again. At the end of the day most Rovers fans with half a brain will already have decided that Appleton is another waste of time and money.

Appleton needs to stop making all these statements to the press everyday and start concentrating on matches and getting team selection/tactics right. Let Agnew deal with the Press. Shaw and Agnew seem to be very quiet after their trip to Poona several weeks ago. It looks like thay may not be back.

You guys complained when Kean would suger coat every loss and was up in arms when you got no communication from the club. Now MA is speaking to us, being honest and open, thats a problem too. Would you rather have the likes of Shaw and Agnew comment on the team or worse, Shebby???!!!!

Make up your minds what you want. Appleton was not my first choice but he is doing a job which has been an improvement then the last few candidates. Ill admit the football is ugly and one dimensional and thats saying something since we had BFS but I'd rather back this man them lambast him.

I can understand the approach he has taken. This is the kick up the backside the players probably need.
