Blackburn Rovers hope Rekik can feature at Arsenal

MICHAEL Appleton has confirmed that Blackburn Rovers hope to complete a loan deal for Karim Rekik in time for the defender to be available for Saturday’s FA Cup match at Arsenal.

Rovers are due to sign the Dutch teenager on loan from Manchester City, with Rekik at Brockhall today to complete the deal.

The 18-year-old, who spent time on loan at Portsmouth during Michael Appleton’s time at Fratton Park, has also tweeted to say he is joining Rovers.

A deal must be completed by noon tomorrow for Rekik to be available at Arsenal, with the defender not cup tied despite being an unused substitute for City in the previous two rounds.

Rovers had a deadline mishap at the end of January, as they were unable to complete deals for DJ Campbell and Jerome Thomas before the transfer window closed, but Appleton is hopeful the Rekik loan will go through swiftly.

“We’ve just got to dot the ‘i’s and cross the ‘t’s,” the Rovers boss said.

“I don’t want to get carried away after what happened last time.

“But we’re hopeful it will be done in time for Saturday and he will be a very good addition for us defensively.”

I am usually considered a moaner but I feel MA knows what he is doing, so let's hope this signing is another positive.

Don't know anything about him or about Portsmouth squad under Appleton. 18 is very young unless you are a star in the making. He is cover I presume?

From some of the comments I've seen, he IS regarded as a star in the making in some quarters

Just another no body cheap option no real investment by the venkys freebies and loans and if any good would be snapped up by far better clubs than rivers
Out with the lot of them

Karim Rekik is thought to be a world star in the making. Signed by City 2 years ago from Feyernord. He chose City ahead of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Liverpool. A Dutch Un 21 who isn't geting into the Dutch starting line up because of lack of regular matches. He would not want to swap the City bench for Rovers' bench. Clearly he has been guaranteed a starting place or (at the very least) a minimum number of starts. I suspect he will feature prominently until the end of the season.

Well he sounds a decent aquistion andwe need pace everywhere and at 18 he must have pace.My hope is for a quality right winger who can cross hope that is a possibility and will give us better balance in the side.

"needs must",
sycophant, and
BS merchant spring to mind. If the club had money to buy a decent Championship level RB then Bradley wouldn't get a look in. Enjoy what's left of your career.

Just what we need. Another inexperienced, wet behind the ears, rookie, dumped on a lower league cos he's not good enough to play with the big boys.

Let's give the lad a chance, he gives us another option in an area where we are very short of depth. Any news of the other 3 faces MA wants????

two more bad press storms are brewing this morning for the Rovers:

1) CKR's alleged homophobic taunts to the Brighton fans in midweek have been reported by fans and now Sussex Police are investigating this. Probably a story that will grow and grow. Not a very nice thing to have a Rovers player associated with and if proved THEN should see the player suspended and fined very heavily.

2) Rovers have allegedly not paid Henning Burgs wages up.
The LMA (League managers association) are investigating this. Not sure if this is for some wages due during his tenure, or if it is with regards the 3 year deal settlement - but either way it is something that we don't need right now and something that should have been settled quietly and honourably by the club.

Not what we needed in either case when we are starting to build back up the name and reputation of the club.
