Blackburn Rovers defender Bradley Orr determined to take second chance

By Chris Flanagan, Sports reporter
BRADLEY Orr has expressed his gratitude to Michael Appleton for giving him a second chance at Blackburn Rovers after being told he would never play for the club again.
Orr has started Rovers’ last three games after being recalled from a loan at Ipswich following Appleton’s appointment as boss at Ewood Park.
The 30-year-old had previously looked set to remain at Portman Road until the end of the season after being deemed surplus to requirements at Rovers.
But Orr says the only reason he joined Ipswich in November was because he was told he had no future at Ewood, despite being a regular at the start of the season under Steve Kean.
And the right back is relishing playing for Rovers once more.
“I’m really enjoying it,” Orr said. “I just love playing football and certainly for a great club like Blackburn. It is a privilege for someone like myself.
“What happened earlier on in the season was a little bit out of my hands. I was told more or less to find myself a club.
“I was told that I wouldn’t play for the club again, which was a sickener for me because it’s a great football club and one that has got every chance of getting back up to the Premier League, which is where I want to be.
“But football changes all the time. The staff at the club changed and the new manager came in and gave me a phone call straight away.
“He said he saw a role for me at the club still, which was obviously very encouraging for me because I could get back to my actual parent club who pay my wages.”
Orr admitted he could not contemplate staying with Rovers earlier in the season when he was told he would not play. The move to Ipswich was completed swiftly.
“What do you do?” he said. “I had to get my head around what I was getting told, that I had no future here.
“I went down to Ipswich, which is probably the furthest place I could have picked, away from my family, which was tough.
“But unfortunately I’m not good enough to be able to pick and choose what football clubs I can play for.
“I had to just go and be as professional as possible and play football where someone wanted me for three months.
“The reason that I did want to get away from the club as soon as I got told was that I didn’t want to be a negative influence within the dressing room subconsciously, because you go from playing week-in week-out to being told you’ve got no future.
“I’ve got good mates at the club right throughout the dressing room who I genuinely wanted to succeed.”
And Orr thinks Appleton has made a big difference since taking over.
“Spirit is what the dressing room has got in abundance at the minute,” he said. “The gaffer has come in and instilled a work ethic that has certainly gone through the roof in terms of tempo in training.
“There is a real will to win for your mate, not just for yourself but you don’t want to let anyone down.”

Lets see if you keep your pace when Henley is fit because I'm afraid we have seen enough of you to realise your simply not good enough. Overall team performances are starting to improve but a weak link at right back is clear for all to see. Get this weekend out of the way and a miracle might happen then back to Tuesday night and 3 more points please.

For me, I'm all for giving Orr another chance to see what he can do now that we have a ' proper ' manager. Perhaps he can be a success in a settled defence as opposed to the shambles that we have seen up to now.
We'll just have to wait and see. If he's not up to it as others think, I'm sure Appleton will do the right thing.

Agreed now we have a proper manager the defence is looking much better and Hanley and Dann are starting to look much more solid. Hanley especially under Appleton has improved no end and also Murphy is starting to look more like the player we all thought he was.

After the ups and downs you have had at the Rovers its time to use the old phrase "Keep your mouth shut and let your football do the talking."

Before people start the abuse of "Dam right you're not good enough" it takes a lot of guts to come out with a statement like that. Orr has been a great asset for us both under Kean and now Appleton. Nobody can deny that since MA's appointment we've seen a vast improvement in the defence, an whilst the midfield still seems rather slow to get going it's not as much of an issue whilst we still have Rhodes, Best (on his return) and Kazim/DJ to a lesser extent. As they are all very good and breaking through a defence.
I hope we do get a RW'er in (not a CAM playing in RW) because the only player we currently have who does a good job week in week out on the RW is Pedersen (who really belongs in the centre with Lowe).
Keep up the good work Orr and Appleton!
If you're Appy and you know it clap ya hands!

The fact is the club should get their fingers out to bring in his requested players just dont let Shebby get involved or we wont sign anyone.
I see Kean is the top of every clubs list to be their next manager ! Where has he disappeared to with his well earned million my guess is Portugal where noone knows how pathetic his managerial skills are.I just wondered why all those clubs who slagged us off for the treatment we gave him have not took him on board?

However he has come back in and settled in to a solid back four which is pleasing. When Henley comes back that competition will be great for a young player to bring him on even further.
Its all looking good at the moment. Fair play to Appy.

If we had millions to buy any players we still wouldn't be guaranteed success it is the right choice of manager that will get us success and I think Appletons the man to do it. Agood selection from Shaw and co even though many derided him for it at the time.

Orr deserves his second chance is not doing anything wrong at the moment - will be good to have competition for the RB spot when Henley is fit, but for now Orr has the position and is doing his best to keep it.

Orr is a good squad player and will do a job for us given the opportunity, and he obviously knows his limitations, never a bad thing.
So best of luck to the guy.

The only concern I have about Orr is that he looks extremely nervous at times and appears to just want to get rid of the ball rather than use it, this may be because he is expecting a negative reaction from some fans if he makes an error, or possibly because our midfield simply isn't strong enough and likely to give the ball away again.

Given his options in his position I'd hoof the ball as well!
Rule 1) Never give Murphy the ball unless you've got 15 minutes to waste while he makes his mind up where to pass, which inevitably leads either giving the ball away, an awkward pass to a marked player, or back to the defence.
Rule 2) If the ball is with Rhodes in the box, charge up the pitch in readiness to celebrate with him!
Rule 3) If you are Murphy please ignore Rule 2 as you'll never make it back to our own half without a taxi.

Orr and Dann have took far more stick than they have deserved with the odd poor pass or missed tackle and they have been slaughtered by some fans. It's time to support the whole team to the full.

It usually comes from fans that can talk a good game but have obviously never played it. Roberts, Andrews, Orr, Murphy and even Pedersen have been on the receiving end of this disgraceful behaviour over the last few seasons. Football can be a frustrating game to watch but some fans appear to come to games predetermined to voice their dislike for certain players before the game has even kicked off. Orr wasn't good enough last year but, aside from Yakubu, who was? He's played okay this season and deserves the same backing as the rest of the players who got us relegated last season.

With regards to Searcher's comment, good shout. Martin Olsson would be best utilised further forward. That said, Henley is a similar player so, should we fail to get a right-winger in on loan, he could be utilised there. Despite spending most of his career there, Kazim-Richards didn't look to happy to be back out wide against Brighton.

The lack of substitutions was very strange as the game wore on and I can only assume that several of those who played 90 minutes will get a rest on Saturday.

I was one of the 548 at Brighton on Tuesday night. I thought across the back four we looked solid and also extremely committed. Orr had a completely decent game (as did Murphy for that matter, although one late foul was close to a second booking). Previous posters have already said that the weaker players on the night were Campbell and Rhodes, and we were certainly in need of someone stronger at right midfield.
