Rochina's Rovers future still uncertain

RUBEN Rochina says he will assess his Blackburn Rovers future again in the summer after joining Real Zaragoza on loan last week.
Rochina was perhaps the most surprising departure of the January transfer window as he was allowed to depart shortly before the deadline to return to his native Spain on a loan deal until the end of the season.
The 21-year-old made his debut for Zaragoza as a substitute in their 1-1 draw at Malaga on Sunday and is determined to prove himself with the Primera Liga club.
But he will still have two years left on his Ewood contract when that loan deal expires and says he will wait to see what happens about his longer term future.
“A loan was the only possibility to leave Blackburn now, but we’ll see what happens in June,” said Rochina, who joined Rovers in January 2011.
“There is an option to purchase and many things can happen.
“My desire is to do the best possible and I came with the idea of success.
“It’s my moment, my time to prove I have the football for the Primera (Liga).
“Two years in England, the first in the Premier League and then half a year in the second division, have given me experience and I have learned things.”
Rovers boss Michael Appleton has since revealed that Rochina had already been told he was being left out of the starting line-up for Saturday’s game against Bristol City, and thinks that may have played a part in the former Barcelona youngster’s desire to depart.
Rochina himself tweeted that ‘my decision to leave Blackburn was only looking for playing minutes, not because I want leave the club’.
And the Spaniard told El Periodico de Aragon that the transfer developed very swiftly on deadline day.“It was very quick,” he said. “He spoke to me about Zaragoza and about the possibility that existed.
“In six hours everything was solved. I lived a very crazy day, with many calls, but everything went well.
“I spoke with the captain and the coach after training. I said to them that a very good opportunity had arisen, that I was two years away from home and wanted to go home to be close to my family, my friends and my people.
“Yes I pressed them a little, but I think they understood it.”
And Rochina was full of praise for the Rovers supporters, many of whom felt confused that he was being allowed to leave.
“It is logical that they do not understand, because I was playing well this season and making goals,” he said.
“It had not been spoken about my departure and I guess the fans were taken by surprise.
“But the opportunity was great for me, although I am grateful for their messages of support and everything that they have helped me with in these two years. I am very pleased with how they have treated me.”
Meanwhile, DJ Campbell has expressed his determination to help Rovers reach the Premier League as he waits for his move to Ewood Park to finally go through.
Campbell was set to join Rovers from QPR on a two-and-a-half-year deal before the transfer window shut on Thursday, only for the club to miss the deadline.
Michael Appleton, however, hopes to sign the duo on temporary deals when the loan window reopens on Friday .
“Thank you to all BRFC fans for their nice tweets,” Campbell said on Twitter.
“I’ll be doing my very best to repay you all with the goals to help get back to the Prem!”
Rovers’ Portuguese midfielder Paulo Jorge is set to join Bulgarian side Beroe Stara Zagora on loan for the rest of the season. Iain Brunskill, who was recently sacked from his role on the Rovers coaching staff, has been lined up to become the new manager of Maltese side Floriana.

Many people say he was overrated - he was by no means the finished article, probably never will be, but when the other most naturally creative player we have is David Dunn and your about to bring in the likes of Lee Williamson, I'd much rather know we have one or two like Rochina in the event that promotion does happen.
After all we've had to suffer as a result of BFS's sacking, are we really about to try and create the same style of play that got us the ugly football / hoofball / overly physical reputation? Let's have some of it, yea, great, especially in the Championship where it's more about battling and no-nonsense football, but balance that with a few technically-gifted-i

Roverthehill, I disagree, Rochina is one of the few players you'll ever see that IS good enough to take on 5 players...but not as often as he thinks!!

As we all see, if he can learn to pass at the right time, he would be a superb player at any level. Maybe one day he will learn this, because the way he draws defenders is a brilliant asset.

For now though, we are better off without him and using lads that will give 100% and know how to achieve in the Championship...respe

My view on it is that Appleton, like Sam, looks at the most important things first, ie. work rate, clean sheets, how to best use the resources you have etc.

In reality, this is the best way to progress. Once a team has "earned the right to play", then they can start to think about entertaining the fans, introducing luxury players etc etc, but its no good trying to entertain before your side has a basic work ethic and a desire to grind out results.

My problem is I'm still trying to superglue back together the rose-tinted specs of the Hughes era, Bentley, Tugay, Roque etc. Substance before style is the most realistic though, I agree.

I'm sorry but Rochina has a LONG way to go yet, he's another Hoilett believing he's bigger and better than he actually is. Needs to learn to pass a ball, an learn he isn't good enough to take 5 midfielders/defender

Glad he's gone, liability. An injured Dunn is of more use.
Rochina has bags of skill and class and goals in him...it just needs nurturing correctly.
If Appleton had this lad two years ago (like Kean had) then you would be seeing a more developed and much different Rochina now. With the right manager and coaching this lad will go on to bigger and better things and we could still be quids in on any final deal.

Can we not give it a rest saying how hard done to we've been over "Big Sam." He was sacked years ago and people keep whinging on how this wouldn't have happened if he hadn't been sacked. He would never have contemplated a player like Rochina.

I suspect that he engineered his own sacking, and walked away with a big fat cheque as well, but hey in football, that's life. The only people who really suffer at the end of the day are the fans.
That said I agree with you on Appleton, we can see what he is doing, but I would say he's going to be more in the Mark Hughes style, thank God, my neck has just about recovered from permanently watching the sky during Allardyce games.

He lost his place at Newcastle when they signed Demba Ba.
OK he's no Alan Shearer, very few are, but lets give the guy a chance to prove himself before slagging him off.

Lots of potential but there is a good reason he only plays for about 30% of the time, he isn't consistent enough and he gives the ball away in dangerous areas far too often, I made him responsible for at least 4 of our opponents goals at Ewood this season due to sloppy passing or trying to beat the entire team on his own and giving the ball away.
I am being generous with the 4 goals given away BTW.
I do actually like him but he's a luxury in this division, one we can't afford at the moment.

Back in the London office in Chiswick things were busy also. Zaragoza had also made an enquiry about Ruben Rochina at Blackburn but Blackburn didn’t want to let him go on loan. It seemed that Rochina then went in to see the Blackburn manager Michael Appleton and said that he wanted to go to Spain. The manager opted to let him go. Why have a player who doesn’t want to be there or play for the club?
Move him on and save on his salary and try and use it somewhere else. The manager and head of recruitment made sure that the deal was right for Blackburn before letting the player leave.
Sounds like things were done the right way and in the best interests of the Rovers and Rochina...

Owners, managers, players are transient, whoever they are they only take from any football club.
The only people who give to the club are the fans.
