Goal delights Dann but clean sheet is key

SCOTT Dann believes Saturday’s wonder strike was the best goal of his career – but insists it is the clean sheets that really matter.
Rovers’ central defender volleyed his side into a 2-0 lead in the 3-0 win at Derby County as he gained ground on Grant Hanley in their own personal scoring duel.
But, while both believe adding goals is important, Dann admits it is keeping them out at the other end that they really judge themselves on. Dann’s strike takes his tally to two for the season, one behind Hanley, as they look to finish top of the defensive charts.
He said: “It was a good goal but the most pleasing thing was the clean sheet. The more clean sheets we can keep, the better we can do. That was a big plus.
“The corner got cleared out, Danny (Murphy) has seen me and it just sat up and I thought why not and it flew in the top corner. I don’t think I have scored a better goal.
“Grant has been giving me a bit of banter because he has scored three and was two ahead. It was nice to get on the score sheet.
“That is just a bit of banter but the main thing for us is clean sheets. We need to keep that going and the more we can get the more games we are going to win.
“I think when you play with a partner you get your understandings.
“There has been chopping and changing but now we have played the last 10 or 12 games together, you can see that understanding growing.”
Dann believed Tuesday night’s disappointment in the draw with Brighton acted as a trigger for Saturday’s dominant display, after claiming hard work is the key ingredient.
He said: “The new manager has new ideas and the biggest thing he wants from us is for everyone to put a shift in, work their socks off from the first minute to the last and obviously he has us playing disciplined.
“With different managers, you get different ideas and he has been really good coming in. He knows exactly what he wants and he knows exactly how to get it.
“It showed. Even the lads who came on, everyone wanted to work hard and get the win. We are disappointed with where we are in the league.
“With the new manager coming in it has given us a bit of a boost.”

Good Work - Kean-Hanley-Dann.
Players are getting good grip from the center midfeild player masters Murphy and Pedersen. Both showing some guts and experiance to manage the 90mts at the center - it works.
Kazim is so strong and nice, he is getting the good pace and control.
Hope more win and consistant performance from players to keep winning.

Some described it as a Van Basten-esque strike on radio Lancashire! Well every donkey has its day & its the first decent thing he's done in 18 months. Maybe start playing him up front cos he's a bl00dy liability at the back!
He may not have been Braveheart at his best but he has performed better than most of his colleagues this season and does not deserve the mindless stick which some people dish out.

Scott Dann certainly does not sound like he wants away - so maybe Appy has got the squad believing again...though some of us never stopped believing anyway.

Although I think appy and maybe bowyer too, have told him to keep his game simple and put his foot through the ball when needed. He looks a liability when he has too much time and thinks about short passing - clearly keans approach affected his confidence. Hopefully back 4 being told to keep it simple!

Also - for me rochina is a busted flush, don't want to see him playing for rovers - always giving the ball away and not involved in the goals against derby. Don't understand why some fans so keen - he can beat a couple of players but then does sfa.
Really good to see the lads playing for each and murphy is top class with the right players along side him.

Disagree about Rochina he is quality on the ball and forced two great saves on Saturday. Yes he needs to understand he is playing in a team but he gives us an edge in creating space and opportunities by getting past people. Just need to work on his distribution.

For most of the season Dann has taken stick by the fans. One good game and he is God's gift to football. Fickle fans!
At least he is proving that he can play good football. Maybefrom ow on he will be more consistant.
A least (last) the team showed signs of getting to the standard of play expected of them. Keep it up.

There are a lot of 'confidence' players out there and lets face it the confidence of most of this team (that has been there over the last couple of seasons) must have been really shot at by the time we sacked Berg.
Bound to be some hiccups yet but overall the clouds are dispersing slowly and it could be onwards and upwards for the club at last...

Short back passes , mis placed clearances, timing miles out as balls loop over his head , etc. He's made more mistakes in 18 months than Nelson & Samba made together over their 10 years combined service. I'll stand by my judgement of him as a liability unless he proves himself CONSISTENTLY over 10 to 15 games, not some lucky hit and hope goal
