Bowyer left to pick up pieces and focus on football

By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
GARY Bowyer insists he will carry on as Rovers boss until told otherwise – but admits his players’ recent efforts deserve far better than they are getting.
Rovers’ caretaker duo Bowyer and Terry McPhillips were left in limbo last night ahead of this evening’s Championship trip to Wolves – with the club locked in talks with Blackpool over Michael Appleton – but the former was adamant nothing has changed.
Rovers’ reserves boss has led the team to three straight wins after stepping in to the void left by Henning Berg’s dismissal, with the club even announcing last week he would remain in temporary charge until the end of the month.
Bowyer was thrown into the public glare during the pre-match press conference in the wake up of managing director Derek Shaw now confirming Rovers had approached Blackpool about Appleton, but he was quick to play down the significance.
He said: “I have not been told I won’t be in charge at Wolves so we will take charge of the team and hopefully get another win.
“I don’t think we can answer how unsettling it has been because we have not asked the players. We have told them to concentrate on what they can control and that is playing football.
“Unfortunately all this takes away from the press the players should be getting from their level of performances. They have had three wins in a row and we are not talking about the players and their performances.
“They deserve a bit better than that in my opinion.
“Our players deserve more credit because a lot of players could have used this as an excuse but this bunch haven’t. They have burst up together and gone and produced the level of performances they have shown.
“It is not about me and Terry. It would be great to win a fourth match in a row for the players and for the club.”
Former Rovers coach Dean Saunders will take charge of Wolves for the first time this evening, after his weekend appointment, looking to revive the Midlanders flagging fortunes.
But Bowyer isn’t putting any added significance on to the match for his visitors.
“It is just another game for us to go and compete,” he said. “Be aggressive in the way we play and we will try to go and get all three points.
“To be fair to the players all along they have been first class and we just went out and trained yesterday morning. We can’t control anything else outside of the training ground.
“We are looking to keep the momentum going.”
While Bowyer and McPhillips have batted away any questions about whether they would want the managerial job full time, he admits the last few weeks in the role have been enjoyable, He said: “I have loved it, loved it.
“The players have been magnificent, enjoyed it and we will continue to do so because they are a great bunch of players.
“We will continue to do that until told.
“The pair of us have got a lot of experience in football. We have been involved in it all our lives and we knew anything could happen. It still can.
“We will just keep going and preparing the team to go and win at Wolves. We bought the club some time and that is what we set out to do.
“The club are exercising their right now. I was told on Wednesday night an approach had been made, when it came out I was aware there could always be approaches made to managers.
“It did not surprise me because we know anything can happen. We have been out and trained and I know as much as yourselves.”

The problem with the appointment of appleton is it forces the players to take sides in the battle of the boardroom, back him and your with Shaw , dont and your with Shebby. Appletons biggest challenge is going to be galvanising the players to a common cause, i hope he can do it but its a tough ask.

We need a manager with hair and Bower has loads of it......someone needs to point the Indians towards the hirsute based success of other clubs ie no hairy no winny. No offence to anyone but baldies make poor managers and the stats back that fact up.

There is a die hard fan in Pune!
His wife apparently stuck up for the Venkys and he snapped.
The man was arrested today for beating up his wife.
Chinda Gudunproppa denies the charge.

Not sure what's happening about a goalkeeping coach though, I thought Rhodes' father was being lined up for that? Personally, I think Bowyer and McPhillips will, and should, return to their normal duties. They've both played a huge part in the development of players like Phil Jones, Junior Hoilett, Martin Ollson, Jason Lowe, Grant Hanley and Adam Henley.

Also, and this is purely from a selfish point of view, if things don't go well with Appleton and he's sacked like Berg was, Bowyer won't be in the firing line too. He could turn out to be our new Tony Parkes.
With regards to tonight's game, I'm hoping the players win it for Gary and Terry but I can't see us hammering Wolves. Their players have got a fresh start too and they'll be hoping to cement their own places in Saunders' starting XI. It should be a good game but I'm going for a draw.

Personally , I think what Gary and Tery have shown us all over the last few weeks is the difference positivity can make. The same squad has been available o these guys as all the other managers, Gary has done what most great managers do he has motivated the players to show the fans what they are capable of , and he is the first manager to really big up his captain, over the last two years I have struggled to pick out our captain at games, in the last three games murphy has started to act like a captain but has also been backed by the manager, this has given a sense of unity and common cause absolutley essential for any succesful team. Its basic psychology.

practically, i don't really see it playing out like that, but with the personalities involved, it's hard to be so sure. what we have seen over the management issues in the last couple of days has been hugely disappointing.
if/when appleton is announced, i would really like to see a strong and heartfelt thankyou from the directors to bowyer and mcphillips. track record suggest not, but i look forward to being pleasantly surprised.

LET US give full support to Appleton /Westwood COACHING team , at least APPLETON has shown he will make decisions something lacking in recent times.
But what about Singh and Hendry ,the pair of clowns.
Hendry has got his head so far up Shebby Singh`s arse it is plainly embarrassing , NO DOUBT if Singh loses his power /job at Rovers , Hendry will be sniffing around the next arse to crawl up, 8,000 pounds a week can anyone tell me what his job is ? or in fact what it will be ?
HIS JOB WAS Laughingly described as "defensive coach" but we all quietly knew he was employed as Keans driver and drinking pal.
IF HENDRY SOMEHOW OR OTHER MANAGES TO KEEP A JOB (ANY JOB) AT ROVERS , IT WILL PROVE WITHOUT QUESTION THE ALLEGATION THAT HE WILL BE THERE UNTIL THE PERSON AT ROVERS HAS BEEN PAID BACK THE MONEY HENDRY OWES THEM.
maybe they are mevi gb mYBE

The decision on the type of manager is made by the board, so depending on who wins that battle depends on what type of manager comes in and ultimatley the direction of the club, so i would suggest they do think about it , and my guess is the odd agent is on stand by based on this decision.
