Chelsea defender Kane completes Blackburn Rovers move

Blackburn Rovers have confirmed the loan signing of Chelsea Under-21 captain Todd Kane.

The right-back, who has just completed a spell with Preston, joins on a one-month youth loan through to February 10th.

Rovers’ caretaker manager Gary Bowyer moved quickly to secure the services of the England Under-19 international after scan results revealed that Adam Henley would spend several weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Born in Cambridgeshire, Kane has been with Chelsea since Under-8 level and after rising through the ranks, the tough-tackling defender has starred against Rovers in recent seasons on the big stage.

The 19-year-old, who is yet to play for his parent club, ended the 2011-12 season as part of the first team squad that flew to Munich for the Champions League final and was involved in the celebrations after Chelsea beat Bayern Munich in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Kane gained his first taste of senior football during a six-week loan spell with Preston North End, which ended on January 5th. He featured five times for the Lilywhites, making his league debut away to Leyton Orient in late November and playing twice in the FA Cup.

He is available for Rovers’ npower Championship games against Wolves, Charlton Athletic, Brighton, Bristol City and Ipswich, but is cup tied for the fourth round clash away to Derby County. Kane is Rovers’ second January signing after Josh King’s loan move from Manchester United was made permanent earlier this month.

Well we now seem to have great excitement on here today that we are signing (on loan) a 19 years old kid. for a month. No sign of an experienced,, mid-twenties, well established player, for 2-3 mill. who could perhaps run down the wing a little bit and cross for Rhodes, then? Nah, lets keep the wage bill down but give the plebs a new face to look at.
Happy days..

We need more than one what happened to the United player we were attempting to get on loan? The only way we will go up is to get a good midfielder who is quick and can tackle plus a right winger who can move and cross the ball and a left back to let Olsson move into midfield if he stays here.
We need Alan Curbishley he has common sense and is used to operating with a small budget in a club our size.I think he would work well with Bowyer as is assistant so come on Shebby stop looking at people with contracts when you can get the unemployed.

me intersting to see how the lad gets on, not really bothered that he is not costing us millions the money spent on a player seems to have no bearing on ability in modern football and is just a measure of how good an agent is at hyping his player, Torres £50m, Carroll £35m and then Michu at swansea for £2m. If hes the u21 captain at cheslea i would suggest hes going to be probably a half decent player, makes sense bring him in for a month if hes good buy him , if he wants to stay if hes not send him back. Dont thing anyones jumping from the roof tops on this signing but if it works out it could be a good bit of buisness. There was critism for bringing in over paid has beens and inflating the wages bill and now critism for trying young british talent, personally I think there are too many overpaid foreign imports playing football in england taking up the spaces of better British young talent and would rather see us give this lad a go than some forieign import whos coming for the cheque.

Dear inbreds, just a question to ask why on earth on every single Rover article you lot feel the need to comment? You lot realise nobody cares what you think, your obsession is very sad to say the least. I'm sorry that you support Burnley, really, you think you wind us up but you don't, i honestly pity you lot. At least BRFC fans have the balls to stand up to our owners/managers/chai
rman. Your board sell every little asset you ever have even when you struck gold and got to the premier league they wouldn't invest! Your club are the laughing stock going nowhere, you couldn't even beat us on your own patch against the worst team we have had for 20 years, yet you try to look down and laugh at us! Pffft

'interested' is the key word and what we all keep pointing out to you. There is nothing interesting about Burnley and thats why you come on here everyday talking about Rovers. You must spend more time communicating with Rovers fans than Burnley fans. Now that must be humiliating.

, Lets put it all this in perspective with a little bit of history, at the risk of being accused of living in the past. Just to contrast and compare, you understand. .Around '91 time, Jack Walker a multi millionaire decided he wanted Rovers in the Premier League. He got Kenny in. Kenny bought a lad called Alan Wright from Blackpool for not a lot - a full back as it happens. And Kenny kept buying till he built a team of quality players together with one or two journeymen. Jack and Kenny got us into the Premier League.
The present owners, also multi millionaires, allegedly say they want us in the Premier league. I say allegedly because they don't talk to us and we have to get our info through a go-between..Their approach is different from Uncle Jacks. They sell all the good players in the team , buy mainly has beens, and get kids in on loan. Makes an interesting comparison, don't you think?. Jack and fred Walker were a lot richer than the Venkeys Jacks share of selling the business he had helped build was 20 year the profits the Venkey can make from their entire global empire.

The Vekeys are attempting to run the club on he cheap they have not got a clue we need two players in every position and they rely o loaning a young lad who could not sustain a place in PNE's losing team.I hope he comes good for the month but he s ok whatever he does as we wont be buying him.

Now we get to the real point of your obsession with Rovers, because we do things you can only dream of. The mention of £100m says it all. Pure absolute jealousy.
Your only involvement in the transfer window will be when those greedy owners who've took you for mugs (and you're braindead enough not to see it) sell bob the builder for a lot less than you think he's worth and pocket the income like they've done for years.
Great signing , saw this lad in Young Cyl final ( after we'd d1cked the inbreds in the semi) and he looked class. Good luck to him, it won't lead to a permanent signing but enjoy him while we can and while the dingle fascination with their superior neighbours grows and becomes more and more bitter!

I'm sure Kenny paid about half a mil but I'm not 100%. I know it's not tens of millions but it was alot back then for a left back in the old Div 2.....

Don't know why everyone is assuming Shebby has brought this young loan signing in. He hasn't got the nouse or knowledge to go and search for young English league players but Gary Bowyer does as he comes in contact with them all the time. If Gary thinks the lad can do a job for him and will give him more options during his month in charge then thats fine with me and good luck to him. If Gary does well during his January spell I would let him have till the end of season because all the latest names being banded about are ONCE AGAIN No Marks with no good track record. I have said it all before if you want a very experienced manager and a safe pair of hands with experience in both the Premiership and Championship you will have to go a long way to beat Curbishley, a little bit like Sam but with more focus on playing attractive football and more of a Diplomat and might fit in better..

Posters are criticised for being negative and then they are criticised for being positive. You couldn't make it up could you? You two should get together with those two Burnley cavemen and have a party.
It's not negative or positive it's realistic. how bad is it when people get excited by getting a 19 year old on loan for a month?

Just a point that PNE have massive debt problems, and this could well be the reason the loan was not extended. Trevor Hemmings, a long life PNE supporter is pumping money into the club just to cover overheads. A multi millionaire but he has business sense to know how far to go.

According to BBC this morning, the Rovers (i.e. Shebby and the Venkys) have approached Appleton, I ask myself why? Mr Appleton has no track record to speak of and so why approach some one who has yet to prove himself. There is a better case to leave Gary Bowyer in charge for the next few games ans see how things work out. The Venkys have learnt nothing since there shambolic takeover two years and continue to make foolish moves which end up making the club a laughing stock. They must understand that football is expensive and if you pay peanuts you end up with monkeys and that is what has happened at Ewood and continues to. Again another example of the complete and utter mis-management of Shebby and the Venkys. I just wish all of them would just depart and the sooner the better.

whittaker0 says...
7:42am Thu 10 Jan 13

I have made no comments about the ability of Shebby yet and gave Shebby a probationary period and a chance to prove himself. I have reached the conclusion that Shebby has not got a clue what he is doing and should be sacked for being totally out of his depth (before he does any further damage),

You lot realise nobody cares what you think, your obsession is very sad to say the least. I'm sorry that you support Burnley, really, you think you wind us up but you don't, i honestly pity you lot. It doesn' matter if you have a state-of-the-art drainage system in place, if the amount of rainfall exceeds the maximum capacity that the system can deal with water will settle on the pitch. The referee called the game off prematurely, Rovers wanted the it to go ahead. Not their fault.

However, a game between Burnley and Stoke had to be called off a couple of seasons ago because despite widespread freezing, Burnley Council didn't grit the roads and pavements, and Burnley FC failed to do the same in and around the 'stadium'.
