Spirit helps Blackburn Rovers to precious three points

GARY Bowyer has hailed the spirit of his Blackburn Rovers side as “truly remarkable” after seeing them make light of the chaos surrounding the club to beat Barnsley on Saturday.

Goals from Josh King, Ruben Rochina and Jordan Rhodes helped Rovers to a 3-1 victory at Oakwell, despite having lost their second manager of the season, when Henning Berg was sacked last week.

Reserve team boss Bowyer took the temporary reins, helped by youth team manager Terry McPhillips, but was full of praise for the response of his players.

He said: “It is brilliant for the lads to have got the three points.

“I can’t praise them enough, they were magnificent in training and have done the same in the game.

“The levels of performance from everybody was first class.

“The way we defended and threw bodies on the line to block shots, through to the pace we attacked with I was truly proud of the way we went about it.

“We have got some good players and they went about it the right way. It is a cliché but I can’t praise them enough.

“They have ended the year on a high and now they have to reproduce that on New Year’s Day.

“We just got on with it. The players bought into it and were first class. All of them have been truly remarkable.”

Manchester United loanee King, who has one more match left at Rovers, got Bowyer’s men off the mark, before Spaniard Rochina doubled the lead before half time.

The hosts pulled a goal back late on but were soundly beaten as Rhodes made it 3-1 in the closing moments.

Bowyer said: “Ruben has got a great left foot. When you put him in front of goal he is capable of that and it was a great finish.

“I am delighted for Jordan Rhodes as well. He is a Barnsley lad and worked tremendously hard all afternoon.”

Bowyer also spared a thought for his former coaching colleagues, who were sacked along with boss Berg after the defeat to Middlesbrough.

He said: “I had a great working relationship with Eric Black, Iain Brunskill and Bobby Mimms.

“It is not nice seeing them leave the club, it wasn’t nice at all, so that was a little bit for them definitely.

“The lads went about it the right way, they worked tirelessly, it was a really, really good performance.”

January transfer window - Robinson goes off to a Premier League club, Fergie recalls King because his mate Berg has been sacked, Dunn goes off to Stanley as assistant coach with his mates Beattie and Richardson, Givet finally gets his release, Formica returns to South America, Martin Olsson goes off to Galatassary or somewhere similar. Those that remain, Murphy, Etuhu, Pedersen, Dann stay because they are on Premiership wages but can't get into a Premiership club.

Is there a mad man loose at Blackburn???

The spirit of the FANS at Barnsley was even more remarkable given the chaos that exists at the Club we love! Well done to those who got right behind the team. Shebby, like Kean deserves everything that is thrown at him (verbally of course) but, if the players will get stuck in, they will get the fans behind them.

The fans are going to be even more important to the success of the Club as we get another new manager. We won't all like him but the eleven on the pitch, if they bust a gut, deserve our 100% backing.

Happy New Year to all Rovers fans everywhere.

One thing that Saturday's result showed was that the team can play and win together without a manager. So tomorrow just go out there and win for the fans, who have had so much to put up with over the last two years.

If Bowyer can keep the farce of Singh V Shaw/Agnew off the pitch and get the players to focus on the match against Forest we are on to a winner. The big difference between the Barnsley game and the Berg era was that we took our chances first and the confidence flowed back. Good thing is that strikers feast on confidence for Rhodes, King and Ruben tomorrow cannot come quick enough. There is no reason why we cannot put back to back wins together. Let us hope in Bowyer we have found another Tony Parkes.
Happy New year everyone and let's end the first day of 2013 above those dingles

My Great Uncle Arnold ( Whiteside ) must be turning in his urn.... he played for BRFC 1940;s his beloved club is now being poorly run and the money Sir Jack Walker spent, with his heart, has been totaly mismanaged.
I now live in North Wales but always look out for news and results for BRFC. My Dad still has a season ticket, he has watched the Rovers for 60 years now and he is really and genuinely upset at the state of things.
I named my boy after JW and we try and go to BRFC home matches whenever we can, I will always love the Rovers because its in my blood. It is truly upsetting to read comments about how bad things are turning out. Lets hope, for all the true fans, things turn out ok and soon. Garry Nicholls

It seems pretty obvious that the 'leaks' to the media are eminating from quite a few sources at the club ,all of the using it for their own agenda, and NONE with the interests of the club in mind. The only chance we have of surviving this continuing destruction is for there to be a complete clearout, all the way from Hendry way up to Coar, then for our 'out of their depth' owners to finally admit that they have no idea what they are doing, and to contact J.W, ( or someone of his standing, not connected to a certain agency in any way ) with regards to him being given a free rein and financial backing to use his experience and vast contacts to bring in his own team and begin the re-construction of our once proud and respected Football Club. If the owners,as i fully expect, are not prepared to do this, they should immediately turn the Club over to the Blackburn Trust( i forget the proper title - sorry) for whatever sum they can raise. The last 3 years have cost the venkys NOTHING, but has given the sort of worldwide coverage of their brand that would have cost them millions up on millions normally, because although they have made our Club the laughing stock of the football world, there has surely been no damage regarding their chicken buisinesses, just worldwide recognition . If the venkys have any honour, self respect or decency whatsoever , they should do the right thing or GO !!! R.T.I.D. Since 1969

The caller asked to speak to me, and then introduced himself as Judan Ali, a man who has been touted as the next manager of Blackburn.
I have never met Mr Ali, and before that phone call I had never spoken to him.

He wanted to ask my view of what was going on at Blackburn Rovers.
You couldn’t make this up, and reader, I am not making this up.

Mr Ali explained that he had been invited to watch training at the club in recent weeks as part of his coaching development; he is partaking in an FA scheme to boost the number of black, Asian and ethnic minority coaches.

I don’t believe, from our conversation, that he is seeking or feels able to take a managerial role at Blackburn. You wouldn’t, would you, when you have no managerial experience in English football?

Anyway, whatever happens, I wish Blackburn the best, and Mr Ali the best.
And whoever you support – have a healthy and prosperous new year."

Obviously a lot of things have happened at Ewood during that time.
Just when I thought things were for the better following the departure of Steve (the man who could not win football matches) Kean along comes ‘loose cannon’ Shebby Singh pic above with weird and wonderful ideas that defy any logic.
With the possibility of a former Bollywood film star becoming the new Rovers manager, the cub is beyond a laughing stock.
I predicted at the beginning of this season when Rovers were in 4th place after a handful of games and Kean was still in place. That the Rovers would another relegation battle.
The same opinion applies even though Kean has gone. The scatter gun transfer policy of Kean and Singh has resulted in the signing of extremely mediocre players. The team is terrible and is flattered by it’ League position of 15th.
Any Rovers fan under the illusion that Rovers can mount a promotion challenge are sadly deluded.
Fighting off relegation and staying in the Championship is the only issue and some people need a reality check.

Whoa !Whoa! hold on a minute, one fine day does not make a summer. We beat bottom of the table Barnsley, and the sycophantic ****. manager is drooling at the prospect ,hoping of coarse that the praise will bring him some kudos and a possible chance of the permanent managers job.
Forget it sunshine, and don't patronise the fans you sound just like Shebby
We have had more than enough of all this bull_shit less talk and just do what you are asked. The hope most fans have after some consideration by the directors is to appoint the best available experienced manager, and a competent backroom staff. Then get rid of (Mr. Fix It) Singe ,and concentrate on mending and improving the team .Astute buys and clever
buying and selling of players is surely the mark of a good manager.Thats what we all want ,to the owners in India we all say forget the cultural
chasm that exists and put your trust in what you've bought into, otherwise you will never win over the majority of the fans.well done for the win ,and
a HAPPY New Year to all, lets put Rovers back on top .

Voting can be useful if you do what Barcelona and Real Madrid do and let the members vote in the President.

If Rovers board was accountable to the season ticket holders every two years we might just have an executive that cared about the success of the club, told us what they were trying to achieve and listened to the fans.

If Venkys can't or won't sell the club then they need it to succeed, they should back off a bit and position themselves as owner/sponsors, let decent football people (not Singh, Shaw or Agnew) run the club and think of this as a marketing, not operations, issue for them.
