Berg accepts Blackburn Rovers managerial role

Henning Berg Henning Berg

HENNING Berg has accepted the role of Blackburn Rovers manager and will be unveiled tomorrow morning.

Rovers have now confirmed the 43-year-old's appointment and Berg will be unveiled at a press conference tomorrow morning.

The former Norwegian international made almost 300 appearances for Rovers in two spells at the club.

He won the Premier League with Rovers in 1995 before helping them win promotion to the top flight and lifting the Worthington Cup in his second spell.

Rovers' managerial search has gone on a month since the departure of Steve Kean, with Berg only interviewed on Monday night.

Very happy, good upcoming manager with Rovers in his blood. Dont understand why people are slating him but would be happy with OGS, doesn't make sense both similar managerial CV's upto now but at least Berg has an attachment to Rovers. So glad we havent got Shearer, Sherwood or McKinley with all with none or very little managment experiance

Whether it's a good appointment or not, none of us know now.... Time will tell. What IS important is that we back the club, board, players and manager, stop the mindless booing and go forwards together.

An awful lot of negative press has been written about us Rovers fans so let's not give the media or anyone else any reason to think that all they have said was justified!!

I am amazed by this the Venkys have made a sensible decision. Any approach for Holloway probably would have been rejects and the compo + salary he demands would be expensive, Redknapp would have bankrupted us like he did with Portsmouth and then left as soon as a better offer came along. At least Berg is there because he wants to be and its not just another job. If you were offered a straight swapped Berg for Kean 6 Months ago you would snap there hand off and considering who it could of been eg Maradonna, everyone should wipe the forehead with the back of there hand and go PHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

we all got what we wanted KEAN OUT we now have a manager with blackburn connection with managerial experience albeit in norway but still counts for something if it had of been OGS then the comments would have been more positive which doesnt really make sense!
i for one will be totally behind henning berg and the team onwards and upwards who knows if we get together return to ewood as so many promised when kean left (though alot avnt) maybe we really can push for promotion just a thought and i would also like to make this early point we have a very tough away fixture coming up against arguably the form side of the league so IF we lose this cannot be held towards mr berg as i can see a few posts now about this if it does happen RTID

Henning Berg deserves our support.

The fact that we are lumbered with Shabby, Hendry, Shaw etc is NOT his fault.

If it is Henning then good luck to him and lets all get behind him.

Yes the club is a joke. Yes our global adviser is not much more than an ex pub footballer and TV gobshite, yes the infastructure of the club has been wrecked by the half wits frome Pune (where would they have got in life without daddy setting them up).

No matter what the state of our club is it is not the fault of Henning Berg, so please, please, please lets get behind him.

We are no longer a well run, stable and respected premier league club that could attract the managers from the top table.

We are unfortunately a badly run championship side in dissaray.

We quite rightly hate the destruction that has been wreaked upon our club. We despair at the idiots who have been appointed to run the club by the even bigger idiots in pune.

I think it's fair to say that we won't be at peace till the collection of half wits referrred to previously have gone from our beloved club. At least the ultimate scumbag Kean has gone. One down and a few more to go yet.

Henning Berg however has simply applied for a job at his former club where he is respected and remembered fondly. If he is appointed the we must all get behind him and support bioth him and the team. Nothing else is good enough.

We the fans protested long and hard against kean for very good reason. Most, if not all of us know without doubt that Kean needed to be removed and we the fans took the only action we could to remove him. We did it for the good of our club.

If we carry on to protest after a new manager has been appointed then we are quite rightly open to critisism that we are damaging our club even further. We wiil we be open to derision and we will deserve it.

I will welcome the new manager and offer 100% support. The mess we are in is not of his making.

REDKNAPP RED HERRING. ITS HENNING BERG.

Harry Redknapp’s agent through a spanner in the works on Monday, by leaking the news Redknapp would be interested in the Blackburn Rovers manager’s job.

The press fell for it' hook line and sinker', in Tuesdays Daily Mail their sports page led with the story. The Lancashire Telegraph had the story plastered all over their Tueday’s edition and on bill boards throughout Lancashire.

All National Newspapers and Sky TV Sports News carried the story.

Talk Sport radio even had Glenn Mullan from the Blackburn Rovers action group to air his opinion on how Rovers fans will greet the news that Redknapp was to become their new manager.

It was all a spoof, and our National Newspapers and Media fell for it 'hook line and sinker'.

Redknapp’s agent, anxious to keep his clients name at the forefront, latched onto the Rovers job as being a possible creditable destination for Redknapp. Especially given the unpredictability of the Rovers owners. Redknapp’s agent was anxious that Harry should not be forgotten and a nudge in the direction of those Premiership clubs at the foot of the table was needed. QPR, SOUTHAMPTON, READING, and ASTON VILLA were put on alert that Harry would not be available forever.

The story had the desired effect and has Redknapp back in the forefront for the next Premiership vacancy that comes along. Redknapp was never to come to Blackburn.

So embarrassed was Redknapp at the media frenzy, the Daily Mail even had him at Ewood Park having an interview whilst he was at home in Bournemouth.

That Redknapp, to clear the air was interviewed on Talk Sport at 4pm on Tuesday afternoon, whilst praising Blackburn as being a good club with good fans he said “it isn’t for me and don’t know where the story has come from”.

YES YOU DO HARRY, it came from your agent and Blackburn Rovers were the victims of the hype.

Former Rover Henning Berg (pic above) was the one being interviewed, and he passed with flying colours. Impressing both Managing Director Derek Shaw and Global Advisor Shebby Singh. Henning Berg has been offered the job and it is his to refuse.

Alex McLeish remains on the Rovers shortlist along with Ian Holloway / Blackpool and Lee Clark / Birmingham, although neither of their clubs has been approached – unbelievable. Care taker Manager Eric Black remains a possibility should Berg turn down the Rovers. Alan Shearer remains an outsider.

One thing is for sure it won’t be Redknapp.

Welcome to the mad house Henning.
Hendry would not be needed now at Rovers , the title he got when he came in under Kean was as a "defensive coach " Berg was a much more disciplined and more decorated defender than Hendry ,Bergs title haul was massive , so for that reason Hendry is simply unneeded .

And naturally the other and main reason Hnedry should go is for the reason he turned on the Rovers fans to support Kean, he is dishonest and dishonourable and we do not want the publicity he brings with him providing more negativity at Rovers get Hendry out now, and we know Rovers will be then showing real intent for a rebirth of Rovers.
A manager does not spend all of his time working with the players. He is looking over the whole strategy and others deal with the individual tasks, such as coaching the defence. Our defence has been awful, but the last two games have been clean sheets. Hendry has questions to answer about his character and personal life, but Henning Berg can assess whether or not he wants to continue using him as a defensive coach.
Wecome and good luck, Henning.

We need to be realistic, my beloved BRFC have in-experiend owners, little or no funds and are going through a massive transition, we are never going to attract an establshed or proven Premier League Manager when we are a Championship club.!..
Lets hope that Henning Berg can start the revolution back into the Premier League, i for one will be supporting him...some people are deluded!

noddymcleod says...

In Berg's favour is that he was an excellent player in his two spells at Rovers. He has experience of getting out of the Championship, when we went up in 2001 he was named in the PFA Championship team of the year.He wanted to play out his career at Rovers but Souey wouldn't give him an extension.
I and thousands of Rover loyalists have no confidence in Venkys' ownership, nor in Shabby's ability, but Berg comes with a reservoir of goodwill amongst all but the most begrudging of fans.
How Berg's desire and freedom to do what he feels is necessary pans out with Shabby and Venkys will be the key.
Rovers certainly need a fitness coach as a priority. They also need a leader on the field. Let's see what Berg does.
Do we still need a defense coach now ? I recall that Sam sacked the useless Ince croney, Nigel Winterburn, and said he'd be his own defense coach.
Let's hope Berg does the same and sacks Hendry, a thoroughly admirable player but what a let down as a coach and human being.
By the way of correction, someone says Hughes was unproven - not true, he'd been an excellent manager for Wales and came with a lot of plaudits for his skill at team building on limited talents.
I feel that bit more optimistic for the first time since Venkys came.
Good luck Henning.

I feel this appointment will either be a great or a disastrous one. I wish him all the best and I hope he is backed in the transfer market. The biggest plus points are he has done it on the pitch (so should get the players respect); played for top managers, so he will know a lot about tactics, he will have a lot of contacts in Scandinavia (where many of the football bargains are) and he should be able to get the defence organised (as he knows the fullback and centrehalf positions inside out). The minus points are he may have promised to be a yes man in order to get the job; he is inexperienced in management (at a high level anyway); and also about who’s who in the championship (regarding players, teams and their tactics).

All in all I am cautiously optimistic that he can do a job here.

Taking the pragmatic approach I am reasonably satisfied with Berg's appointment. He seems to tick most of the boxes and the excellent report from the Norwegian guy allayed any fears I may have had regarding his credibility, mainly due to my own ignorance. I will therefore give him my full backing. I would still, though, like to know just how many candidates the club interviewed, but I suspect we'll never find out. I have the sneaking suspicion Berg was the only one, which I am not too happy about. Still, it's the start of a new chapter and I don't see any barriers now to getting back to the premiership where we belong. COYB

Personally there is a real shift in football happening, with more and more teams trying to develop a version of the Barcelona possesion football and an emphasis on technique, this means a new breed of manager is coming to the front of the pack, (would Swansea have allowed a coach like Brendan Rodgers to develop a pass and move style 30 years ago), these managers are all attending the latest coaching courses and employing new modern techniques to player welfare and development,( By the way for those who dont think the courses are valid, these course dont teach you how to play football, they teach you how to structure development and deliver training plans succefully to players)what this also means is a lot of the old school managers who can`t adapt are starting to struggle to keep up and as time goes by the modern player will seek clubs employing the modern progressive managers as opposed to the dinosaurs. With a bit of look Berg will be one of these modern managers willing to use all the latest developments and stratergies to develop his players, only time will tell.

I know he is associated with the devil, but he has gone. I hope he becomes Bergs No. 2. He could be a shoulder to lean on, certainly for this season. I think it's a cracking appointment bringing Henning Berg back to Ewood as manager.
I really think we've got the best we could of hot under the circus of Venkys and Shebby.
I stand by my comments of last night that I truly don't believe HB is anybody's yes man and nobody's fool.

He's gained experience managing elsewhere which is so much more than the muppets of Sherwood, Mckinlay, Keane n Shearer and he won't lose his head like Holloway.
He's got Rovers at heart and will speak his mind like he did last year regarding Rovers and the way it was being run.

Now this ongoing appointment has been made we should all get behind the manager, the club and players and give it everything and prove that we are all true supporters who have had a pish taking 2 years but are willing to support the club and let's put an end to all this boycotts, boos and bickering.

I can't say i,m surprised at the appointment so therefore i'm not dissapointed that we didn't take on any of the tried and tested mangers, which would have been a must had we had credible owners. For the record i think the biggest mistake that venkys have made in this appointment is that Henning has never come across as a yes man,i met him a few time in the past and he always came across as a genuine honest bloke with a soft spot for the Rovers.I believe now that if there is to be any protest by the fans at Ewood in the future , that it MUST be directed solely at the parasites that own the club. I strongly believe that NOW is the time to unite behind the team and Henning regardless of the clownish antics of others in the background. Let us make a dfference in every match from now on ,and get the Rovers back to where we belong..Henning may not have been our ideal choice , But he's not kean !! So he deserves a chance .. I hope sincereley Berg turns out to be a top manager and takes us back to the PL. Let's move on now and get rid of any negativity and anger untill such a time It calls for It, which hopefully won't be a long time. It's not the players and manager, I'll be right behind them now, but my frustration towards the batty boardroom crew and Venky's will arise again I'm sure, but In the meantime, good luck Henning Berg, all the best mate, you might need It.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW.
100% blue, and judging from the number of thumbs up on that comment so do many other fans. Of course Redknapp as manager would whet most teams pallette, why wouldn't it, he is an experienced premiership manager. but in the end he would have wanted a premiership budget and brought us down if we weren't successful on the first attempt to go back up.

Hopefully Berg will bring a bit of stability to the team to get us there without bankruptcy.

The Kean legacy, especially that of an unfit squad, will hinder him this season.

Hopefully, we will at least see positive signs, even if we don't get promoted this year. That's not the given some people seem to think it should be, regardless of who gets the job.

I don't know if this is just an impression I have, but Norwegian footballers always seem very level headed and consumate professionals; two of the qualities which have been sadly missing at Ewood for the last two years.

The Humming Bird always gave the impression he was both and a carefully considered approach will do no harm whatsoever. Bring a little calm to the storm which is BRFC.

We may have to be patient and hope Venkys continue to back him. There are a lot of things which need sorting out and we may have to think more evolution than revolution.

Let's get behind him. He's been a great player, he's had some difficult management experience so must have learnt something, and I think he will be very passionate about getting Rovers promoted. I really hope his passion is strong enough to rub off on everything BRFC so that the team, the Venkys, the staff and the fans can all move forward as one.

I hope for sensible decisions and a team, on and off the field, all working together and giving 100%. I think Henning Berg can deliver that. We need it. Divided we fall.

Biological issues aside, what does it matter what he looks like? I want him to manage our football team, not f@ck him.

Who do you want as manager FFS, George Clooney? He's a bit of a looker .... so I'm told. Or are you more of a Brad Pitt man? I'd be up for that, but only if he brought in Angelina as his assistant.

Wecome back to Blackburn Rovers Henning! You were a excellent player and a model professional during your time with us and at Man Utd and your football knowledge and experience is really welcome now at Ewood.

You face a big task ahead (as you surely know) with promotion the immediate target. But with one or two well selected additions in the Jan window then the squad should be strong enough to achieve that. But your professional guidance along with the introduction of better fitness coaching and more astute tactics and offensive strategy will be needed to be in place quite quickly.

Lots of names have been bandied about over the last few weeks -- some good, some bad and some downright ugly - but I believe that you have the dignity and stature to restore some of the pride in our club that has been in short supply recently.

Reg. www.regoftherovers.c o.uk

As for his back room, I have no hesitation in putting forward Eric Black. To my mind he has behaved impeccably. He was thrown in at the deep end and talks a good game. He was honest in his opinions and he has tightened up the defence. I know he is associated with the devil, but he has gone. I hope he becomes Bergs No. 2. He could be a shoulder to lean on, certainly for this season. Black has grown on me these past few weeks, he's handled a tricky situation..with aplomb..
Are you Eric Blacks brother or his agent ??? So he's won a couple of games against inferior opposition - big wow !! This guy was (and still is) a Steve Kean appologist - christ, fans like you have short memories - "Steve Kean deserves a KNIGHTHOOD for the ABUSE he has suffered at ther hands of Rovers fans" -he said that 5 months ago on NATIONAL radio. Welcome Henning you should get 100% support from all Rovers fans but to draw a PROPER line under the Kean era then all those pro-Kean (ANTI fan) appologists have to leave the club. Black. Hendry and Agnew have all supported Kean whilst putting us Rovers fans into a bad light with the national media - or had you forgotten ??
Berg cannot get rid of Hendry, Black or Shebby...it's the only reason he got the job!! Every other candidate would have wanted them out. I'd like to know exactly how many managers were interviewed. Over to you Andy Cryer.
.
Questions for the press conference:-
.
1. Henning...Why have you decided to work for Venky's when you told everyone 6 months ago that anyone with any credibility would steer clear??
.
2. Will the services of Colin Hendry now be dispensed with because you (an ex defender) can organise the defense yourself?
.
3. Will you have total control over transfer policy?
.
4. Do you still think the Jack Walker Trust would be better suited to running the football club (as you stated several months ago).
.
5. Do you still believe it was a mistake for the football club to sack Sam Allardyce...(as stated several months ago).
.
6. Will you be bringing your own backroom staff in? If not, why not??

Another PR account.....hope Venky's give him time?? Oh yes, we wouldn't want 'Big Col' to be out of a job soon or another manager to come in who could decide transfer policy and agent's fees now would we??

I actually feel quite sorry for Henning in a way. Why? Because he is coming to a club which has been turned into a circus by these awful owners, a club which a far cry from the one he came to on those other 2 occasions. He is coming to manage a club who's supporters, with a previously unblemished reputation for behaviour, have been turned into negative, cynical, protesting moaners by the owners. Instead of 100% of the fans being behind him from word go, he will have to win these fans over with results which will have to be good ones and god help him if it goes pear-shaped. Rovers fans have become intolerant and impatient, but this is neither the fault of us supporters or Henning Berg. The owners are 100% to blame for this situation. I'm not the only one who thinks that employing a failed Norwegian manager and now TV pundit is a mistake, having prayed for an experienced manager to try to undo the damaged caused by that lying, Scottish chancer we've just got rid of. But it's not Berg's fault. All we can do now is support him and hope to hell this seemingly suicidal gamble pays off. Smelly, I get the feeling that they could have appointed Alex Ferguson or Pep Guardiola (sp?) and there would be a section of posters on here calling them 5hite and saying they must now be Venky yes-men.

As much as I despise what Venkys have done to the club I'm inclined to hope its ****-up (primarily listening to bad advisors) rather than conspiracy.

Oh yes...because it would be really hard to falsify 'thumbs ups' now wouldn't it? So...as suspected our beloved agent rolled out the old Maradona line again in order to cause hysteria and attempt to mitigate an unpopular appointment.

Sorry Henning...but the vast majority of Rovers supporters will be incredibly disappointed with this news. That is no disrespect to you...it's just that a clean slate was required and a proven experienced manager was needed to turn things around. You've just been employed to keep other people's pockets lined. You could always prove me wrong by bringing your own backroom staff in (which any other manager would do) and dispensing with the current setup....but that's not part of the 'local' agreement is it??

According to Berg’s current employers, Norwegian TV2, Blackburn have offered the 43 year-old the vacant manager's job, with only minor contract details still to be negotiated.
However, it was only five months ago that Berg, who won the Premier League title with Blackburn in 1995, admitted he would be reluctant to consider working for Venky's, calling it "madness".

Berg said: "To work for a Premier League club would be fun, and even a Championship club as well. However, to work as a manager for a club you need the right owners and to take over as a manager in a club (Blackburn) with owners like that is madness.

"There are no real managers with credibility who would accept a job like that. You might end up shooting yourself in the foot. You might end up being there a few months with nothing really working and being unable to do what you want.

"The owner situation needs resolving and I hope that Jack Walkers' family, as they still have some money, will buy the club back and start running it again under the same principles as Jack Walker did when he was alive."

I'll second this. Add to the above questions "How many candidates did you actually interview?" This is an important question as in Shabby's interview he said that the only way to assess a candidate was to see them face to face. That way you can really judge the person. So, to get back to the question, how many candidates of the total number did he dismiss without meeting them? I think we need to know if Shabby is to earn our respect, which he doesn't have at the moment.

Come on smelly. It's done, Kean has gone and a real Rover is now in the hot seat. Stick to what you know, not what you believe. When you know, you don't need to believe. Know that Berg is a winner, he has reached the top several times, he was a great defender and knows more about defence than almost anyone, he is not stupid.

Most people would have chosen somebody else, but even then there would not have been full agreement.

There is no way of telling if he is a yes-man. I think he will definitely not be a yes-man. You know what, he might even be taking the job to steady the ship until December when OGS becomes available. If you want to believe, then believe in that and give your ulcer some rest.

Negatives first :- This was an opportunity to appoint a young manager with experience and who is at the top of their game at the moment and who could tick all Venkys boxes and they have failed. Instead they have appointed a man to take us forward who was a flop in his last job and has no track record of any reasonable success and it has taken 5 weeks to do it. This is another bad gamble after Steve Kean, and why are they announcing it in India first do they think this is some big coo hiring a flop. Berg will not put bums on seats either unless he does really well I am also concerned about the youth acadamy with the influx of idian youngsters along with all those from portugal that can't get on the bench. I hope that all this potential influx of indian players and coaches will be on merit and not because they are on some sort of crusade that will effect the well being of our traditional club in the long term.
Anyway now for the positives. :- Maybe this appointment will leave room for Eric Black and co who have done a fantastic job under the circumstances and do not deserve the sack. They have transformed the defence and got the best out of the players and hopefully Berg will continue that and maybe tweek the side to attack more. We have to hope Berg uses his bad experience to good effect like Holloway and Brendan Rogers have done and that he has learned from his mistakes unlike Kean did.Black seems the sort of guy who will help the new manager who ever it is and who has good knowledge of the players to pass on etc and should work well with Berg and the players. Berg can also bring his own man to work along side the team if he thinks he needs it. Lets hope he will be strong with Venkys and Shebby and doesnt let them bring him off track. Finally he wants to come to Blackburn and was a good servant when he was here.
I wont be getting a season ticket until I see how he is doing but I will be going to the odd match and hopefully we will all get behind him and stop the booing from now on please.

Thanks for that banana and showing such an interest in a club you despise.

You will therefore be delighted with Bergs appointment and be content in the knowledge that Bonleh will soon be lording it over Rovers for years to come.
I'm pretty sure I don't despise anything or anyone. I have quite a few friends that are Wovers fans, and enjoy friendly banter with them, but you can't blame us for having a bit of a snigger at the comical goings on at your place at the moment, especially after having to listen to you lot 'lord it' over us for some time now.

How can you tell people what to do at the games when you dont even go to the all? You will see how he is doing before you get a ST? Did you do that with Dalglish, Hughes etc? Some supporter.

Not from me just something my mate sent from a Norweigan fan

In hennings bergs first season at lyn they finished 3rd. his team got a wrong penalty against them in their second last game of the season. If that had not happened they would probably have won the league that season. To put that achievement in perspective. Lyn to finish third in tippeligaen is equivalent to finish third with a club like Sunderland budget wise. No one really expected him to top that table position with the economy they had. The gap up to the big spenders was just too big. The following season they finished 7th, 9th and 7th, which were decent, the season after he left lyn got relegated and then they went bankrupt.
He was signed to take over lillestrøm after the 2008 season but due to them being only 3 points over relegation zone he started his jobs two games before the season ended. In his first game in charge they beat Rosenborg (which won the league by clear margin that season) and secured top flight football.
When he took over Lillestrøm they had the oldest squad in the league, and a lot of high earners. He had to clean up their entire squad and in his first season everyone expected them to struggle which they did. The other seasons they were predicted to be higher up, and he had lillestrøm around 5th 6th place until the summer window which due to economic recession in the Norwegian league between 2008-2011 he had to sell his most talented youngsters.
So to sum up he has managed a midget budget wise and had decent success with them, then he managed a sleeping giant from the 80s which were and are in complete in turmoil.

In terms of formation he usually sets his teams up either in 4-4-2 or in 4-4-1-1. He likes to have players with a lot of pace, especially on the wings and the wingers he has used tend to be good to challenge 1on1 (so I guess he has some shopping to do in January). His teams have been rather solid and organized defensively. He is a die-hard fan of zonal marking. He plays an attractive possession oriented style with a lot of short passes and mostly passes on the ground. He has also liked to play with two holding midfielders. I think he is very inspired by arsenal and arsene wenger when it comes to playing style and transfers.

In my opinion he was very unfairly treated at Lillestrøm. He did all their dirty laundry, brought in young players and got rid of high earners and when they finally got stable economy they sacked him. The sacking was also a farce. Basically he had the boards support, but then an extern investor contacted the board and said “I will invest xx millions but only if you sack Henning”. So they went for the fast option. Lillestrøm is now a Norwegian QPR version. They have signed 18 new players this season (many of them Norwegian internationals who didn’t play for their foreign clubs) but this has not materialized and they are basically at status quo in terms of league position and their attendance are plummeting.

His ex assistant managers will probably not join him. His first assistant manager is assistant manager at Aalesund and the other one just got relegated as manager for Stabæk after failing to get the job at Lillestrøm. I think he would want to bring his own staff in, and then he will bring people who share the same football philosophy as himself and people he can work with. Maybe he can work with black and Hendry, but if not I think he will get other people in.

I’m obviously a big fan of Henning Berg as I suggested him over 5 weeks ago when he wasn’t even remotely linked with us. I don’t agree with someone saying “5 weeks and we end up with henning berg, what a disaster.” The reason for this is if this had been a quick appointment I don’t think he would even be considered by Shebby and Shaw. If he gets the job I think he will have impressed them with what he has presented to them and they think he is the right choice. I hope shabby and shaw have done a thorough job in talking with potential managers but of course I don’t know if this is correct.

Not the appointment I wanted but I'm fully behind Henning. However, during his press conference tomorrow, his comments a while ago about anybody taking over this club given the current regime being 'madness' do need addressing. He simply must be pressed on these comments and asked about his change of opinion, then we can move onwards and hopefully upwards. If this does not happen, and it is swept under the carpet, we will be carrying on in the same manner that we have been accustomed to for the last 2 years with supporters rightly feeling disengaged and cynical about goings on at our club. This is crucial in my view. Lets hope we can get off to a good start with the openness and integrity from our new manager that we supporters rightly deserve. All the best 'Ice'.

Unbelievable that some fans will wait to see if the Manager is a success before going to Ewood

If they had appointed Hughes you could not say his last three jobs as Manager has covered him in glory does that make him a success or a failure?

Big Sams forte was in setting sides up well for the key games - entertainment was a secondary issue. Without question we would not have been relegated if he had still been in charge but that does not mean he was perfect

Football is a agme between two sides - one wins one loses or both draw. The margin between success and failure is a fine line - there will be ups and downs along the way but genuine Rovers fans will back the new Manager and give him a chance. To suggest boycotts or throwing away shirts is not the way to support club even if like me Venkys are not the people you want in charge. They are and I do not see that changing so live with it or get out

Good luck HB be your own man - ALWAYS

Spot on, kiwipom, by Cyprusblue and by you. We've gone through enough doubt, suspicion, conspiracy theories, insane communication and stupidity to last a lifetime. Now we've got a true blue, a winner, and someone with lots of good connections in English and European football. That's a mighty lot of positivity in my opinion. Berg can unite this club if allowed to do so without interference. Let's not forget that Fergie will give him some good advice too, as well as be more likely to loan him players. Berg's learnt some hard things managing in Norway and this could well be his first successful spell as a manager. Come on, Berg, Come on Rovers!

One things for certain...the Kentaro keyboard monkeys have been hard at work all afternoon trying to convince everyone that Henning (1 win in 8) Berg is the right man for the job. I remember chatting with Patrick Anderson Henning in the 100 clubb a few years ago and thought then that he was not only an excellent footballer but had a sound and knowledgeable outlook upon life. I am sure he will be very successful at Ewood and wish him the very best of luck!

Hello bananaman,
I'm not very good at telling jokes, I always get the punchline wrong but anecdotes, I could make you wet your pants.
I once worked with a guy who was a Burnley supporter, the first Burnley supporter i'd ever met in the flesh.. The boss came in and said to him, can you take this box of fluorescent tubes to another site for him. He said sure and went to get his car. He had one of them 3 litre Capri's with a sunroof, must have been considered royaty from dingle land.
Anyway he pulls up outside the workshop, gets out and winds the rollershutter up just enough to get his car in the loading bay. He then backs it in.
We all stand there and watch with some amazement and hilarity as he tries to fit 6 foot tubes in his 2 door capri without much success.
He then has a brainwave and opens the sunroof and places the box in the open hole with the top half sticking out. He then smiles at us all chuffed with his obvious einstien problem solving abilities gets back in his car and drives it under the roller shutter door having forgot that he only raised it enough to get his car through. Yep you guessed it, he chopped an entire fookin box of 25 6 foot tubes in half covering himslef in white dust and sh1t loads of glass. To compound this hilarious event he jumps out of his car looking like a fookin white icicle and accuses someone of putting the door down when he wasn't looking.
That is the first time I met a Burnley fan in the flesh. Superb memories. He was known as the iceman from then on in..
Do you want another tale of the iceman? I have plenty of this bafoon
The one about the parrot being one of my favourites, that tale even makes me wee my kecks.

Well I'm glad to hear you don't despise anything or anyone. Your one of very few dingles who doesn't, especially where Rovers are concerned. So well done you.

There's quite a difference between a bit of a snigger and an absolute infatuation of hating Rovers. I have just spent the last 6 months working in Bonleh and didn't actually realise how much hating Rovers is as important as supporting Bonleh to a lot of their folk.

I suppose I can humor you dingles in a sense. You've had absolutely nothing to throw at us for over 30 years now, so naturally cling on to the slightest little thing to comfort your disappointment at being a very very poor second best. The bad news for you and the Berg doubters is he might just be a bit better than alot of people suggest, so don't get to giddy thinking your going to get that elusive derby win you all crave, or that we're not going to push hard for promotion.

Lets just leave it at that Banana. You've clearly quite a bit more about you than the likes of glentoran or proud burnley lad, so I'll save my pi55 taking for them eh?

Good luck chief.

Upset? We haven't stopped laughing yet!!! Benitez, Shuster, Redknapp, not even Sherwood, McKinley, McCarthy or Holloway!!! What do you end up with.......Henning Berg (how many people had him down as first choice?) a TV pundit sacked from his last job managing at the same level as Flitcroft!! . PMSL at all the desperate posts trying to convince yourselves that he was a good player therefore he will be a good manager! In comparison the appointment of Dyche seems to be a master stroke!
And you get Dick Van Dyke!!! Chim Chiminee Redbeard is a masterstroke alright. He's only taken it until a bigger club comes in like atherton collieries just like eddie. Ere that used to be a song that Just like Eddie Apples n pears me ol china Chim Chiminee
Bless! That's your best retort? God you must be hurting at the moment. Is the realization of how far Rovers have fallen over the last 18 months starting to sink in? Not even in your darkest most depressed moments did you ever think you would end up with Henning Berg!
Thankfully he's not a genuine Rovers supporter..neither are his "colleagues" who have infiltrated this page. I have 1000 times more respect for Burnley supporters than Kentaro....and I actually think I'm beginning to pity the Venkys for some reason.
"Thankfully he's not a genuine Rovers supporter." probably more of a Rovers supporter than you are,you spend your time on here finding fault with anything involving Rovers and the fans. But as you are a closet Dingle fan it can only be expected.

On 19 August 2008, Lyn announced that Berg had accepted an offer from Lillestrøm, where he had last played in 1992. Henning Berg signed a five-year contract and took over as head coach on 21 October 2008. On 27 October 2011, after gaining only a single point in 8 matches, Berg was sacked from Lillestrøm.- THATS CORRECT 1 POINT FROM 8 GAMES!!! That takes some doing and then without a club for over a year - Is kean behind this to ensure he looks good when Berg does worse than him???

Let's give this guy a chance. I only hope he is allowed to be his own man and that must start with getting rid of Black and Hendry, as well as all things SK.

Let's face it, now - no one is going to get shut of Shebby, Shaw or Agnew (or other 'influences' ) nor Venky's; in fact if HB is successful, he will probably save them all! (can't win, can we?). However, I hope everyone realises (including our new Manager) that we are drinking at the last chance saloon. Get promoted back to the PL and all could be forgiven; get it wrong and Venky's will be lucky to sell the Club for chicken feed.

We all know that Shebby talks a good game and there was never any chance of a big name appointment. Henning's one of us at the end of the day and we'll get behind him. Black's done a decent job but can't help feeling that the plan was to appoint him on a more permanent basis if the results had been a bit better. By my reckoning last year we got aroud 23,000 rovers fans in the best weeks at each gate, and during the good times something similiar. In that lot there must have been a lot of proper fans.

So 10th Novemeber all in favour of never going again dont turn up , all in favour of getting on with supporting Henning and the team, and regardless of the owners come to the game , if its more than 11,500 we have a majority vote , if its less then we know what most fans think , lets call it a referendum, anyone up for that.

I'm sorry, I got bored early on and stopped reading but I'm sure it was all thoroughly entertaining stuff.

A decision at last, and a good one in my opinion.

It's a gamble based on his limited managerial experience, so it's important that he puts the right people around him. I think that Black and Hendry need to go, we need a clean start and a new regime.

He knows how the Club used to be run, so he may be in for a shock when he sees what is left behind the scenes.

He has credibility and respect within the game, and I think he will get the backing of the majority of the fans. There is a lot to do and he will need some time.

Good luck to him, hopefully he can lead us out of the dark days and chaos of the last two years.

Fully agree.

Let’s stop and think for a minute. Henning clearly knows what has been going on at Ewood and he said some pretty scathing things about Venky’s in the summer. So if he has come here prepared to let Shabby and Venky’s trample all over him he is going to finish up with a massive loss of face.

I don’t think he is that sort of person.

He can be under no illusions about Venky’s catastrophic reign at the club for which he has such fondness. His heart is still very much at Ewood.

So maybe, just maybe, he applied for the job in the hope that he could bring some sanity, some stability and some success back to the club. It will not be easy. He must be strong.

I would not think for a minute, under these circumstances, that he has not told Shebby that he demands full control of team affairs without any interference from him or his paymasters. And I don’t think for a minute that he would have taken on this task unless he had been given that assurance.

Don’t expect instant success. Over the next few weeks he can hopefully bring some organisation, skill, method and fitness back to the team. In the meantime working on his plans for the upcoming transfer window.

We know he is a winner and by the end of January we will have some idea whether there has been a new dawn…

Excellent post.

I really dont know how to feel about this appointment but we all knew that Venkys wouldnt spend alot of money so I suppose Berg is probably the best choice of the cheap options, I for one will support him and give him the chance to prove himself, I know he thinks highly of the club so lets just hope he gets us promoted. I love our club and think we should sing our hearts out at the Birmingham game when we welcome Henning back to Ewood.
Come on you BLUES!!!!

I will try to view this positively, although while we have our present owners I struggle to feel part of Rovers as I always have.
I think Berg is a decent man, Norwegians as a whole seem an honest race, respectful of the countries that they work in, no chip on their shoulder&seem to want to fit in without colonising (unlike a lot of the jocks in England).
Give him a chance, 3 months will tell us whether he's any good or whether he's just another Venkeys b1tch. I doubt that very much as I believe he has an honest affinity to us.
Black can stay for me, but he needs to get that thieving, gambling alecan Hendry out. The sight of his pasty face and 1980s haircut while doing sweet FA on the bench winds the cr@p out of me
What I do find hilarious is that at this time yesterday there were 14 comments on the dingles post about their new manager, where our story has near 400 comments. While some of these are from the 6 finger brigade, that matters not, still proves when it comes to the power of a club to raise interest and get people talking, the pulling power of Blackburn Rovers is still way way superior to their poor little relations with their deluded fans down the M65.

You're wrong. EVERY club needs an alcoholic Scotsman with a gambling addiction who is violent and steals his neighbours life savings.

But you reckon you don't?? Good grief. What makes YOU think you're so special eh? Eh?

OIty toity Blackburn Rovers fans think you're to good for Hendry. You make me sick.

Here's a reminder of how the LET poll of genuine Rovers supporters was reported just days ago:-
.
BLACKBURN Rovers supporters have sent an emphatic message to owners Venky’s in their search for a new manager with vastly experienced bosses topping the Lancashire Telegraph readers’ poll.
.
More than 700 votes were received in the space of two and a half days on who the club should target to succeed Steve Kean in the Ewood Park hot seat, with the results showing a strong call for a more established figure to guide Rovers back into the Premier League.
.
Blackpool’s charismatic boss Ian Holloway led the way with more than 20 per cent of the vote, with former Wolves man Mick McCarthy a close second with 17.5 per cent.
.
Former Spurs chief Harry Redknapp (6.8%), Real Madrid’s old boss Bernd Schuster (5.6%), ex-Charlton and West Ham number one Alan Curbishley (5.3%), Huddersfield’s ex-Rover Simon Grayson (4.9%) and Spaniard Rafa Benitez (4.2%) also featured in the top 10.
.
A lack of experience appears to have worked against Rovers’ Premier League winning skipper and the club’s apparent initial favourite, with the Tottenham technical director Tim Sherwood just receiving 1.4 per cent of the vote.
.
Former Manchester United ace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer received strong support towards the end of the poll, after it was reported he would be interested in the role, with a late surge taking him to joint fourth in the vote with 5.6%.
.
The 39-year-old is on the verge of taking Norwegian outfit Molde to their second successive title, having previously managed Manchester United reserves for three seasons.
.
Former Ewood darling Alan Shearer was one of the few to buck the ‘experience’ trend. He proved the most popular ‘legend’ to return as manager with 4.9% of the vote, while 3.5% felt caretaker boss Eric Black should be handed the reins.
.
With Rovers yet to start the process to find a new manager in earnest, the Lancashire Telegraph poll provides just an early snapshot of what supporters are feeling, with a wide range of names suggested.
.
New names are coming into contention all the time but the initial feeling among Rovers supporters appears to be that a wily old campaigner should be given the top job, with the club having suffered under managerial novice Kean over the past two years.

So basically...Henning Berg polled just 4 votes, the same as Paul Dickov, one less than Billy Davies, half as many as Unibond League manager Garry Flitcroft and just 3 more than Fleetwood Town's Micky Mellon. That is the standard of manager that Kentaro...oops sorry...Venky's have appointed.
.
Yet...Henning "one win in eight" Berg is being hailed as a saviour. Strangely, a great deal of the pro-Berg comments were made exactly 2 mins after the LET story was posted. Then, when it was mentioned how suspicious this looked a number of comments were then removed. It is an absolute disgrace and greed is totally behind this. All involved in keeping their greedy mitts on Jack's financial legacy are shamed. I just hope and pray that Uncle Jack has the means to get his own back...if he hasn't done already!! I hope you all rot for an eternity in hell....UP THE REAL ROVERS!!!
