Rovers close to appointing new manager

Henning Berg
BLACKBURN Rovers were last night waiting for the green light from club owners to finalise the end to their search for a new manager.
The Lancashire Telegraph understand the final decision on who will replace Steve Kean lies with club matriarch Anuradha Desai – after managing director Derek Shaw, operations director Paul Agnew and global advisor Shebby Singh made recommendations.
The trio ended the interview process this morning, with talks with Harry Redknapp’s representatives, and the former Spurs boss has now ruled himself out.
It is believed Redknapp was on standby to meet club officials if the negotiations had gone well but any interest from his side quickly diminished early on in the talks.
It is understood that Rovers’ 1995 Premier League winner Henning Berg is a strong contender for the role after being interviewed on Monday night, although club officials remained tight lipped as all options were considered in India Berg has long been keen on the position, having previously managed in his native country at Lyn and Lillestrom, and has yet to return to Norway after his interview.
Shaw has attempted to advise Desai into appointing a more experienced manager, with Blackpool boss Ian Holloway high in his thoughts but, with an official approach still to be submitted, that looks increasingly unlikely.
All three are understood to have been keen on Molde boss and former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but it is believed he wants to see the current season out at his club, which continues into December.
Singh said last week he expected to be able to make an appointment by today and it is believed he remains hopeful it will be rubber stamped in time to make his deadline.
Meanwhile, Reknapp said: “I have not been offered the job and it is not something I want to do. Paul Stretford made contact this morning.
“Blackburn is a very good club and a club that could be promoted but it was not a move that I wanted to make.
“I want to go back in when I feel it is right for me. It was not a job I was chasing and I hope they found who they are looking for, “I had eight offers last week, to go abroad to all kinds of places.”
Berg, 43, signed for Rovers for £400,000 in 1992/93 and played a key role in the club's Premier League winning season a couple of seasons later.
He moved on to Manchester United for £5m in 1997, where he won the treble, before returning to Ewood Park in 2000.
Berg’s second spell at the club saw him help Rovers back into the Premier League and he then skipped the club to league cup success.
He has spent the last year as a pundit on Norwegian TV.
Since Kean’s departure, Rovers have made approaches for Spurs coach Tim Sherwood and Fulham’s Billy McKinlay, both of which were rejected.

In hennings bergs first season at lyn they finished 3rd. his team got a wrong penalty against them in their second last game of the season. If that had not happened they would probably have won the league that season. To put that achievement in perspective. Lyn to finish third in tippeligaen is equivalent to finish third with a club like Sunderland budget wise. No one really expected him to top that table position with the economy they had. The gap up to the big spenders was just too big. The following season they finished 7th, 9th and 7th, which were decent, the season after he left lyn got relegated and then they went bankrupt.
He was signed to take over lillestrøm after the 2008 season but due to them being only 3 points over relegation zone he started his jobs two games before the season ended. In his first game in charge they beat Rosenborg (which won the league by clear margin that season) and secured top flight football.
When he took over Lillestrøm they had the oldest squad in the league, and a lot of high earners. He had to clean up their entire squad and in his first season everyone expected them to struggle which they did. The other seasons they were predicted to be higher up, and he had lillestrøm around 5th 6th place until the summer window which due to economic recession in the Norwegian league between 2008-2011 he had to sell his most talented youngsters.
So to sum up he has managed a midget budget wise and had decent success with them, then he managed a sleeping giant from the 80s which were and are in complete in turmoil.
In terms of formation he usually sets his teams up either in 4-4-2 or in 4-4-1-1. He likes to have players with a lot of pace, especially on the wings and the wingers he has used tend to be good to challenge 1on1 (so I guess he has some shopping to do in January). His teams have been rather solid and organized defensively. He is a die-hard fan of zonal marking. He plays an attractive possession oriented style with a lot of short passes and mostly passes on the ground. He has also liked to play with two holding midfielders. I think he is very inspired by arsenal and arsene wenger when it comes to playing style and transfers.
In my opinion he was very unfairly treated at Lillestrøm. He did all their dirty laundry, brought in young players and got rid of high earners and when they finally got stable economy they sacked him. The sacking was also a farce. Basically he had the boards support, but then an extern investor contacted the board and said “I will invest xx millions but only if you sack Henning”. So they went for the fast option. Lillestrøm is now a Norwegian QPR version. They have signed 18 new players this season (many of them Norwegian internationals who didn’t play for their foreign clubs) but this has not materialized and they are basically at status quo in terms of league position and their attendance are plummeting.
His ex assistant managers will probably not join him. His first assistant manager is assistant manager at Aalesund and the other one just got relegated as manager for Stabæk after failing to get the job at Lillestrøm. I think he would want to bring his own staff in, and then he will bring people who share the same football philosophy as himself and people he can work with. Maybe he can work with black and Hendry, but if not I think he will get other people in.
I’m obviously a big fan of Henning Berg as I suggested him over 5 weeks ago when he wasn’t even remotely linked with us. I don’t agree with someone saying “5 weeks and we end up with henning berg, what a disaster.” The reason for this is if this had been a quick appointment I don’t think he would even be considered by Shebby and Shaw. If he gets the job I think he will have impressed them with what he has presented to them and they think he is the right choice. I hope shabby and shaw have done a thorough job in talking with potential managers but of course I don’t know if this is correct.

I always thought he was an clever, thoughtful man who always behaved like a true professional.
All those qualities have been sadly missing round Ewood for the last 2 years by the people running our great club.
For all those fans who have their doubts - fair enough, everyone is allowed an opinion but at least give Henning a chance.
We have all had enough falling out and in fighting to last us all a life-time - lets ALL get behind Henning AND the club and see if we can all pull together and move forwards as one.

My personal opinion is that considering the top names that had applied for the position I am more than a little disappointed.
Right from the outset Shebby and the Board appear to have been obsessed by ex-players as if this will somehow bring the fans flooding back to Ewood.
They did not listen to the fans calling for an experienced manager - someone who has had success in this division and knows what it takes to get promotion.
Instead they went ahead with their own agenda in seeking out Sherwood (the Youth Team Technical Director at Spurs) and McKinlay (the first team coach at Fulham behind Martin Jol and the Head Coach).
Only a backlash from the fans stopped an approach for McKinlay and caused Shebby and the Board to revisit their main attributes to ensure ‘experience’ was a consideration.
Unfortunatey I am not certain that a Berg with less than a glowing reputation in Norwegian management will be the answer.
He has no experience of managing anywhere in England, he has been out of work for the past 12 months and has been operating as a TV pundit.
If we are to go down the Norwegian route, surely it should be OGS.
Whilst he too has no managerial experience in England, at least he has been successful in Norway. He won the league in his first season and Molde currently are 3 points clear at the top with 3 games to go.
The Norwegian League actually finishes on 18th November 2012 and does not go into December as per Andy Cryer’s report.
Why can we not wait another 2 ½ weeks for OGS?

I for one didn't get sucked in by the hype have we not seen that over the Venky's reign Beckham , Ronaldinho, anyone? So come on all as some have said Berg served the club well in the past.
He looks like he may have a point to prove he is young, served under some great managers and with our backing who knows..........I may be an eternal optomist but Ewood seriously need some optomism.
Good luck Henning or whoever comes in for me really as i said yesterday my Mum would be preferable to Kean and she would gladly shut the curtains if England and Brasil were playing in her back garden!!!!

I hope shabby and shaw have done a thorough job in talking with potential managers but of course I don’t know if this is correct.
they had problems in Lillestrøm. I think that Berg will do a good job in Blackburn, and there might be a possibility that after a couple of season here, he will move on when he will get offers from other clubs.

can i ask a serious question? why cant we all just get behind him? why all the negativity? ok his record isnt exactly stunning but it aint all that bad either, this time a month ago we would have hapily taken jimmy savuille over steve kean....lets get behind him, the truth is we simply dont know if he will be a success or not, think we need to keep things in perspective too, we were never gonna attract a top name, the redknapp thing was purely and simply pie in the sky, a nice thought while it lasted but how many of us truly thought it would really happen?...not many id suggest.
a lot of you didnt want allardyce, then you were horrified when he got sacked, as fans we are becoming spoilt brats....it is becoming more and more a case of if we dont get what we want we will protest or boycott....i have a 5 year old lad that odes that, if he dosnt get his own way he tantrums too!!!!
if it is tio be berg, give him chance get behind him and bloody grow up

One thing is for certain whoever it is will be coming in clean, untainted by the last two disastrous years and must be given a chance to prove himself by all Rovers fans.
Some of the comments about Berg are totally irrational and he hasn't even sat down at his desk yet, unbelievable.
The problems remain in the background with Venky's and Shebby but at the end of the day we cannot do a great deal about that because like it or not they own the club lock, stock and barrel.
They make the decisions not you or I.
So we fans have two choices in reality, get behind the new manager, ALL the players and staff and do our damnedest to help get them up where we think they belong.
Or stay away.
Whoever the new manager is I will be down there every game supporting my team whatever happens, that give me the right to voice an opinion as the rest of the season progresses.

To those naysayers on here, then really get a grip. No one has the god-given right to promotion. Massive mistakes have been made by this club over the past 2 years but criticising and dismissing a new manager before its even official? In what way does that show support? This is no way to bring back better times - if you don't agree, fine, you're entitled to your opinion but really it's wearing thin now - thousands back when kean gets the sack? Rubbish -you just want any excuse to moan. Fine, just find another club to do it to, many many people are getting sick of the negativity now.

That does not mean going on Wikipedia, heading straight to the win percentage section and screaming "farce" if said candidate has a less than 45% winning rate. Some managers and clubs don't fit, it's as simple as that. Sometimes there are other factors which need to be taken into consideration before belittling someone's achievements.
The post from 'roverfoxy' highlights the need to understand the situation as a whole as opposed to fixating on a single statistic which, to be fair, no other fans do and which, as far as I'm aware, we never used to until it was repeatedly used as ammunition to try and oust Steve Kean. Unsuccessfully.
Seriously, whoever gets the job needs the full backing of the supporters because, if this article is anything to go by, they're not going to have the full backing from the people tasked with the day-to-day running of the club.

Berg is to be appointed because:
A) He is cheap
B) He wont question Shebby/Venkys
C) He wont bring his own staff in so Black, Hendry etc can keep thier jobs
From here on in Rovers fans, we shall fall into oblivion. The hope of promotion has disintegrated, the parachute money will get squandered and we will find ourselves in the same situation as before where an inept, relatively inexperienced manager is sticking to his job because Venkys lack the conviction to weild the axe.
To those who think Berg is the next great thing.... you are alone in your opinions since no other club has taken him up and he has been forced into punditry. We can live in hope but in the end reality will come crashing down.

I for one, am very disappointed by this very big and uninspiring risk. Holloway, or McCarthy would have been sensible choices. Listening to Redknapp yesterday, he is desperate to get back into management. Shebby and co, clearly did not want him enough, which is a great shame. He would have been an inspiring appointment.
Although I am upset, if Berg is appointed, I hope we can all get behind the team. I fear, though, that Shebby is taking an unwise, uninspiring and unnecessary risk.

In hennings bergs first season at lyn they finished 3rd. his team got a wrong penalty against them in their second last game of the season. Lyn to finish third in tippeligaen is equivalent to finish third with a club like Sunderland budget wise. No one really expected him to top that table position with the economy they had. There are no guarantees with any appointment, I just wonder what you would have done, no doubt cleared the decks paid millions in compensation, appointed Sir Alex and all his coaching staff. Get in the real world.
So you know A)his salary, B)you seem to have personal knowledge of Henning Berg and his personality and C)why should Black not keep his job what has he done that is so wrong ???? and personally I don't see what is wrong with Hendry that has served our club so very well in the past.
So we are heading for oblivion because we appoint Henning Berg another who served us so very well for many years and who worked under one of the most successful managers in Sir Alex...get a grip ....oh and stay away from Ewood we need full support now not doom and gloom merchants!

But he wont build the bridge with the fans, we needed to hit the ground running with an experienced named boss. Its been done on the cheap, he will probably end up keeping the coaching staff.
If we dont get up this season, then its the beginning of the end for the club. We will be a Portsmouth, we cant sustain our wage bill on the current attendances, no shirt sponsor and a sad lack of advertising around the ground.
Hope Im wrong, but since the circus came to town two years ago Im not convinced.

Not from me just something my mate sent from a Norweigan fan

What kind of a stupid comment is that?
And I suppose you "have the background" to make assumptions about the character of someone you do not know? I think not.
Allow me to make an equally unfounded assumption; you are indeed a jerk.
Any new manager is going to be a punt whoever it is; they always are. You can look at previous records till your head spins (including the pointless "win ratio" which keeps rearing its ugly head on here) but you can't guarantee anything. I'd have put my house on Mark Hughes kicking QPR into shape, but it just isn't happening. Managers we could reasonably rely on to do the job just aren't available to a club of our size and resources.
The first thing everyone should do is get real. The Humming Bird seems as good as, if not better than, most of those mentioned. At least give the guy a chance.
Nor should we jump to any early conclusions about whoever gets the job, given the shambles they are being asked to take over. However their early results go, I still worry about the squad's fitness, given what has been said about the leisurely pre-season and 90 minute daily training sessions.
The pre-season is especially vital for players getting up to speed and building the stamina required to last what will be a very long hard season in the Championship.
The new manager can't do anything about that. Chr!st, even Mourinho can't time travel.
I really hope not, but it does suggest we'll just fade away at the end of the season. Again.
It is another part of the Kean legacy any new manager must overcome. Failure to get promotion this year will not neccessarily represent the failure of the new manager; more the failure of the previous one.
It would then be down to our glorious owners and how long they will be prepared to foot the bill. And that is the most worrying aspect of all this.

Laughing at what exactly?
Laughing at the difference in the trophy haul; currently standing at Blackburn 31 and Burnley 10!?
Blackburn Rovers being one of 2 and the only club now in existence to have won the F.A Cup 3 times in a row?
Blackburn Rovers being a founder member of both the football league AND the Premier League; Burnley being a founder member of the Football League and then twinned with Norfolk?
Blackburn Rovers being one of only 5 clubs to have won the premier league, Burnley lucky to have tasted it once?
Or is it that Burnley’s first kit was an imaginative Blue and White halves, albeit vertical, not sure where the idea for that came from…..
Or is it the last 34 years you find particularly funny??

To those who think Berg is the next great thing.... you are alone in your opinions since no other club has taken him up and he has been forced into punditry. We can live in hope but in the end reality will come crashing down.
"A) He is cheap."
So we won't have to pay compensation to another team, good. That'll leave more money to put towards the running of the club. I dare say he'll still be on a decent wage but hopefully they've learned their lessons from last time. If he's as cheap as you think he is then it'll be easier to sack him should it not work out.
"B) He won't question Shebby/Venky's."
Seeing as how one would be his direct superior and the others his boss, I wouldn't expect him to be anti-establishment, it wouldn't be good for his job security. That would also be the case if it was Redknapp, Holloway, Shearer or Solskjær. However, Berg was a far more successful player than Kean so I'd like to think that his ideas would be given more consideration than his predecessors.
"C) He won't bring his own staff so Black, Hendry, etc can keep their jobs."
You can't possibly know whether or not he'd bring in his own backroom staff so what you're saying is just conjecture. I understand the ill feeling towards Hendry but what exactly has Black done, other than try to put food on the table?
Everyone's entitled to their opinion but yours, and that of 'Is Eckersley playing' is nonsense. The dynamic of the club isn't going to be any different regardless of who gets the job. If Holloway is appointed he'll be in exactly the same position as Berg.
Seriously, if they were remaking Dad's Army I'd ask you both to consider auditioning for the role of Private Frazer... "we're doomed!"

The fact he should never have been within a million miles of the job, the fact he should have been given the hook a long time ago was the result of their ineptitude or, to be kind, their naivety.
I notice you weren't making much noise when 'Arry was being mentioned, by the way.
And before you accuse me of being delusional about that, I and just about everyone else knew that was pie in the sky. We realistically, I say again, realistically accepted it just would not happen.
Had you worried though didn't it?
In any case, anyone supporting a club whose manager says Bournemouth was the only club he would have left them for has no right to be having a laugh at us - or anyone else for that matter.

He wore his heart on his sleeve as a player and gave 100% in every game. He has also worked under the greatest Premier League Manager ever (whether you like MUFC or not, that cannot be denied) who wouldn't have accepted anything less.

They must be judged on their actions and their results, not preconceptions.

Not from me just something my mate sent from a Norweigan fan
Sounds perfect for you boys.
Blackburn Rovers - making Burnley fans laugh since 1875
It was all there in black & white for you to read.
Funny that it wasn't the board's fault when Blackburn plummeted towards the relegation trapdoor into the Championship was it? That was all Steve Kean's fault?
Poor Blackburn fans, deluded doesn't even cover it - ha ha ha
Berg didn't have a good enough squad but nor did he get them relegated. Once again, we'll never know if he would've turned it around as a new investor forced his sacking.
There's nothing deluded about that, it's a fact.

After all, he's not going to disrupt the last three games of a potential title-winning season to ask Molde for permission to talk to Rovers before then.
Well 33 days on and if the media reports are to be believed then it is going to be Henning Berg.

I'm quite certain that he will receive 100% support. Anything less would be criminal on part of the supporters.
For those that had the pleasure in watching Berg in his playing days will have noticed his massive contribution at BRFC along with his stint at Manure. His return was a masterstroke by Souness who took him for his discipline, experience and commitment to a cause just as Dalglish did when he plucked him out of Norway.
My estimation is that Berg will do a good job once(should he be appointed) he as shifted and sorted through the disaster that as befell BRFC. I hope Black is retained within his coaching staff, but he boots Hendry out pronto ?
Berg will command respect within the squad and they will play for him. His background in relation to those he as played under should not be sniffed at, and BRFC have potentially a great manager for the stature of BRFC hoping that he can push us forward so long as he as the backing from the owners. I would bet my last penny that he will get the best out of Rhodes playing a system that suits.
Henning Berg is a winner literally and a club such as ours can never have enough of those in and around the place.
Welcome home HB and all the very best of everything in your quest for bringing success back to BRFC.

I wonder which is the only club the Dyke will leave Bumley for? (he is their new manager, I believe - I haven't been keeping up to speed on what's going on in the outback).
Crawley, Brentford, Wycombe? or another of the sleeping midgets dahn Sarf?

All due respect but I have played in the Norwegian league and if you think BFS was a long ball, big stiker type of manager then you want to watch that lot.
Also, considering the circumstances he joins the club in....
I cant see many believing he is not another Yes man for the Venkys...
so he needs to be a big character... not something Henning ever struck me as a player.... more the quite reserved type.
Anyhow onwards and upwards..... and as ever

For those concerned with the length of time it's taken to appoint, 5 weeks is a good turnaround for a senior appointment - especially one which is being so heavily scutinised and where the club is hardly currently putting itself in the 'this would be a good club to manage' category.
They've had to validate all the 'expressions of interest' that they've had (and that doesn't mean they've applied, it means they've said "I want to manage in England, that's an available role, maybe I'm interested" but as soon as someone mentions their name in the press, they decide it's not the role for them), and have tried to speak with a variety of potential candidates (Sherwood / McKinlay as two examples), not saying they're the one they want, just to understand their stance, interest level, suitability etc.
They've had to do that with the back drop of daily media guess work articles, and never ending postulations from fans on forums - we won't accept x, y or z .... We don't make the decision or have a say - and if we did, it would take us a million years because I've seen people asking for: Shearer, Sherwood, Eriksson, Hughes, Redknapp, McCarthy, Holloway, Berg, Ferguson, Schuster, Curbishley, to name but eleven - how long would it take us to interview all them, and what's the chances of us ever agreeing on one person?
We'll never all be convinced by an appointment, but it saddens me to see Rovers fans being so dismissive of a new manager and so negative about the club - it never used to be like this, and we've had some real rubbish in the past.
No-one is convinced these are the right owners for the club, but they are the owners and we can't change that by moaning at the incoming manager.
Berg has a history in management - chequered, but whose isn't? (even Ferguson has a chequered history). We know he loves the club, and why can't he be the right man for us?
Let's act together as once voice, get behind the new boss, through good times and bad, and give Blackburn Rovers the support they deserve, not the support the national media like to portray.

My impression of Berg in norwegian media, is that he is not a yes-man. A question though is, do venkys have any knowledge of Bergs outrage against their ownership at all? According to his former employer TV2 he has already been offered a contract, with only technicalities remaining. If that is true (which comes from a credible source - TV2) then Desai ( the one with the final say according to LT) must have accepted him as the next manager?

To those who think Berg is the next great thing.... you are alone in your opinions since no other club has taken him up and he has been forced into punditry. We can live in hope but in the end reality will come crashing down.Moan moan moan......give the bloke a chance....you may be right but maybe just maybe he could be a success, cup half empty or half full springs to mind.
My judgement is clouded by my recollection of a superb servant to BRFC and not only the championship winning side but also his first period with the club when he wore his heart on his sleeve. He brought one of the highlights of my life by helping BRFC get to the top of English football.
I did hesitate before when I included Hendry in my erlier post but the rest and Black in particular I stand by.
Its time to support and stand together and we can have an enjoyable season with success at the end of it.
There is overwhelming proof for all to see of Hendry` dishonest behaviour , if he was a employee for a large company he would have been sacked ,but again a footballer can do dishonest things normal decent folk would not do ,and everyone shrugs it off as you seem to do.

Henning Berg, if you are the new Rovers manager the fans will get behind you and the team I am sure of that. The majority of so called fans who seem to have watched too much x-files and just spout negative rubbish on here are either dingles or deluded. Berg won the Premiership title with us, he won it with UTD, he won promotion with us and won the Worthington cup with us that alone in terms of experience is up their with the best, ok, it does not say that he will be a success but also he has history with us, knows the area and the club. Berg if it is you welcome back to Blackburn and all the very best!!
But if this is the Nadir very soon we may reach the Zenith. Let's just hope so.

Have you not been to the games for the last 2 years?
Have you not read the news for the last 2 years?
Do you honestly think Kean picked the team? Do you honestly think Kean picked his backroom staff? Do you honestly think any other club would want a manager/pundit with such little experience? Do you honestly think Shebby will sit there and let Berg buy his own players, pick his own team and do his own contract extensions?
Do you think EVERYTHING has changed now? That Venky's and Shebby have all of a sudden grown up and become experienced in thier positions to the extent at which they know what thier doing? Did you forget the year and a half in which Venkys ignored the fans?
Theres being positive and being ignorant. If you honestly think that everything will change now then you will be sorely dissapointed soon enough. If you haven't spotted the patterns in which Venkys are trying to run the club by now then there really is no hope. The manager is a facade and the appointment of someone like Holloway or Redknapp would have done a lot to turn the tide of opinion that BRFC has not been run by a football manager for quite some time now. All this decision does is confirm the beliefs of the observant fans that Venkys require a facade to go about thier business.

All very interesting but missing one salient point - Berg was sacked after Lillestrom had one draw and SEVEN defeats in their opening eight games of last season and THAT is why he was sacked, it was their worst EVER start to a season. Sounds perfect for you boys. Blackburn Rovers - making Burnley fans laugh since 1875
Laughing at what exactly?

Is Eckersley playing? wrote:In your capacity as a clairvoyant, please enlighten us to who exactly will guarantee promotion and the £60mill. a year?
When Berg played for Rovers I was his biggest fan. He came across as a very intelligent man, clean living and dedicated. My beef with his appointment is simple. He hasn't the experience required for the task in hand.We have seen at our club 'big' footballers come to manage and fail miserably The difference this time is more acute. Next season onwards, at least £60 million is on offer for each prem. club. All clubs getting relegated after that will have ample funds to ensure a quick return. Rovers would never be able to compete. Gates would inevitably decline. All this wouldn't be Bergs fault. You can't blame him for applying for the job. He is being appointed as a cheap option. If the Venkys had any intention of going for it then common sense would tell y ou they would have to pay bigger wages than Berg will command. .
Or is your thinking based around it being anybody who asks for more money in his back pocket?
The big footballers who have come and failed? What like Dalglish, Souness and Hughes? - as players, they don't come much bigger. Or how about Howard Kendall before them? I wasn't feeling too miserable at Anfield or Cardiff, were you? OK those two did have managerial experience but getting into Europe with Hughes and the success under Kendall wasn't too shabby either.
You may recall neither of them had any experience of managing a club side.
Paul Ince and, to a lesser extent, Brian Kidd are the "big footballers" who failed. However, one was the manager of a FL club (experience, albeit not much) and the other had spent an age alongside the best there is (like it or not). Both seemed decent choices at the time.
As did Roy Hodgson who had been a very successful manager elsewhere but most would agree, failed here.
Y'see, there is no logic to it all. The managers you would reasonably assume could do a good job just aren't available and wouldn't come even if they were.
Also, if the Humming Bird is "a very intelligent man, clean living and dedicated", how did you come up with your earlier assessment he is just a yes man and will be a "puppet"?
True, I would have preferred OGS, but, going by your reasoning, he would obviously fail, given he was a "big" footballer with no experience.
FFS we've been miserable long enough and the insufferable owners will continue to be the dark cloud hovering over Ewood, but let's give the new guy a chance; especially if it is the Humming Bird.
Surely he, of all people, deserves that much at least.

On Monday 13th December 2010, I was sat quite content eating my tea and watching Sky TV Sports News.
The previous Saturday my beloved Blackburn Rovers had lost 1- 2 at the Reebok Stadium to Bolton Wanderes, to a last minute goal having only scored the equaliser earlier. A win at Bolton would have taken Rovers into 5th position in the Barclays Premeirship League instead we were snuggled in at a comfortable 11th.
With the Christmas programme about to enfold and new owners (Venky’s) promising substantial investment, it looked rosy for Rovers.
All that was about to shatterd in an instant.
That yellow strip that runs along the bottom of the screen on Sky Spoprts when something new is about to break, appeared.
I was half watching and half eating my tea.
Did that say Blackburn Rovers, did that mention Sam Allardyce.
WHAT ! Sam Allardyce SACKED, claimed Sky sources.
WHAT FOR???
My scrambled brain asked.
My mind was a blur, it must be a misdemeanour I thought.
What on earth has Sam gone and done ???
Soon we were to find out as the evening unfolded.
Eventually Mrs Anuradha Desai came ‘Live’ on the phone from Pune in India.
“we have sacked Mr Allardyce because Blackburn Rovers should be in the top 4 of the Premiership and playing in Europe, “the football we are playing is not entertaining and I like to be entertained”.
WHAT !! Am I hearing things, top 4, playing in Europe.
WHO IS THIS WOMAN ??
It transpired that this woman had never ever watched a Premiership game of football in her life.
Straight away I knew ‘DARK FORCES’ were at work and behind Allardyce’s demise.
I will not bore you with the ensuing saga. We now all know Jerome (the man who ruined Blackburn Rovers) Anderson (pic above) was allegedly behind Mrs Desai’s words. For his own material gain as he allegedly plundered the club at will over thew next 18 months or so. Ably abetted allegedly by his ‘puppet’ Steve Kean. Amazingly the Rao family, Mrs Desai and all let him.
With Allardyce, then John Williams and Tom Finn ot of the way there was nothing to stop them.
OUT OF THAT DEBACLE ON 13TH DECEMBER 2010 ‘REG OF THE ROVERS’ WAS BORN.
It has taken a long time but Kean has gone after having destroyed Blackburn Rovers. With regard to Anderson and his colleague Charlie Nicholas I do not know?
Hopefully Shebby (open mouth then engage brain) Singh will be wise enough not to deal with them.
The Venky’s are still in place, Mrs Anuradha Desai, Brothers Venkatesh and Balaji Rao for how long who knows, are they any the wiser? Who knows?
One thing I do know, they owe Sam Allardyce and all Blackburn Rovers supporters a big big public apology fro putting us all through hell.

Reg now expects Blackburn Rovers to appoint ex- Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Rangers and Scotland manager Alex McLeish (pic above) to the Ewood hot seat this week.
Eric Black will be retained as McLeish’s assistant.
It makes sense for the cash conscious Venky’s. No compensation to pay for the unemployed and available McLeish. Or to pay to a sacked Eric Black.
Only Shebby Singh stands in the way of the appointment, which would lead to Managing Director Derek Shaw quitting the club as the gulf between the two men grows.
Singh, who is looking for “the next big thing”. Wants to interview the Birmingham City Management team of 40 year old Lee Clarke, Liverpool and England legend Terry McDermott and former Blackburn Rovers Captain and England coach Derek Frazackerley. It is thought the trio would welcome a move away from troubled Birmingham City.
Shebby (open mouth then engage brain) Singh still holds hope of persuading Spurs to part with Tim Sherwood.
I however expect Shaw to win the day and appoint McLeish and retain the popular Eric Black.

Steve Kean’s constructive dismissal action against Blackburn Rovers must not be allowed to succeed.
Rover’s had a very strong case to sack him. But dallied and did not take the opportunity, they may well regret that hesitation if Kean’s action succeeds.
It would appear that this strange regime cannot make strong decisions. Either that or there is no one to make them. The awful mess of appointing a new manager is a point in case.
Rovers redress to Kean’s accusations that he was forced out of Ewood are strong and they must enforce their case.
I would be asking many questions of the Kean regime.
Why for example did agent’s Jerome Anderson’s son Myles Anderson, receive a Premiership full time contract when he could not find a club for ‘love or money’ to take him?
To counter Kean’s claim that Shebby (open mouth then engage brain) Singh forced players onto him Kean did not want, is that not exactly what Jerome Anderson did? Kean was only to happy to go along with Anderson. After all he owed Anderson for getting the Rovers job. Both having allegedly conspired to get rid of Sam Allardyce.
Kean has the worst record of any Blackburn Rovers manager in history.
Furthermore, what employee in a major management position who loses half his firms customers keeps his job? – Kean did.
I could go on and on about the failure’s and misdemeanours of Kean. But we all know what a disaster Kean was, he destroyed Blackburn Rovers football club.
Mrs Anuradha Desai (pic above) got her comeuppance when Kean took the opportunity to resign on legal advice. She was warned about Kean but chose to ignore advice from everyone around her.
If Kean wins his claim for a compensation pay-out of around £2 million pounds, who will pay?
Mrs Desai? No, it will be us the fans- the money will come out of the clubs coffers not Mrs Desai’s.
That is why Kean must not succeed or it will lead to even more unrest between the fans and the clubs owners.

You real could not make it up.
Having got rid of the awful Steve Kean and with the chance of a fresh start and the opportunity to unite the club and the fans, Blackburn Rovers are turning the appointment of a new manager in to a farce.
Whilst Shebby Singh and Managing Director Derek Shaw (pic above) squabble about who to interview, never mind appoint, the momentum and the feel good factor following the departure of Kean is being lost. Along with the opportunity of winning promotion.
It is apparent that after a significant rise in attendance v Wolves, the attendance v Watford dipped alarmingly, because the supporters are just fed up.
What must the players feel like? The club is in limbo.
Shebby Singh wants to appoint the “next big thing”. That’s ok but his ‘next big thing’ could turn into the ‘next big flop’.
Derek Shaw on the other hand prefers an experienced manager and wants to approach Blackpool for Ian Holloway, this week. Shebby Singh is blocking the move.
Shaw may even quit the Rovers if he is over ruled by Singh. The fans will be forever grateful to Singh for getting rid of Kean. But if he is not careful they could turn against him if he dallies around much longer.
Holloway is Shaw’s main preference whilst Singh still holds out hope of attracting Tim Sherwood from Spurs.
Either one would be an excellent appointment – just make your mind up chaps, talk about ‘to many cooks spoiling the broth’.
An alternative compromise being considered is to appoint Alex McLeish, Also on Rovers short list. McLeish could team up with his pal Rovers caretaker manager Eric Black, who is a popular man around Ewood and certainly not in the ‘Kean mould’.
Either way – do something or the season will slip away.
Reg.

Wow, its unbelievable how Rovers fans can get peed on and try to convince themselves thats its raining.
If Redknapp had been appointed he would've had no more a say in the running of the club than any other candidate. So, as for appeasing the fans, it doesn't matter whether it's Berg, Holloway or Jose f***ing Mourinho, you'd still be disappointed!
I know Venky's have let us down but all we can do now is get behind whoever is appointed. There's no point crying because you're preferred choice didn't get the job, especially when you have no proof that they were even interested in the first place.

A) Would you pay an out of work manager who cant get a job elsewhere a fat sum? If you would your an idiot.
B) He has no idea about the running of a club or what it takes to be a proper manager, norwegian teams count for nothing, you may aswell manage in the unibond league. How will he assert his position with no prior knowledge? If you think he would, once again, you are an idiot.
C) Whats wrong with the current backroom staff? Apart from the fact thier handpicked by Venkys and 90% of them have agents who are SEM or Kentaro. Apart from the fact that we got relegated with those staff in place after sacking a team of excellent staff.
And your mention that he "WORKED UNDER FERGIE" which seems to be the only line of hope for most fans. How does working at Man United make you a great manager? I would love to spend a day there and become untouchable in the football world like everyone else seems to do. Are you saying Beckham, Cantona and Ronaldo would be a font of managerial knowledge?
At the end of the day mate, you can dream to your hearts content, get that wallet open, let venkys pick through your paycheque and clap and sing the whole while. The whole reason Shebby thought 'ill appoint an old player' is because of idiots like you who have no idea about football and think that because someone is an ex player then theyll be a fantastic manager and understand the club 15 years on.

All that laughing at poor old Rovers...

Harry Redknapp’s agent through a spanner in the works on Monday, by leaking the news Redknapp would be interested in the Blackburn Rovers manager’s job.
The press fell for it' hook line and sinker', in Tuesdays Daily Mail their sports page led with the story. The Lancashire Telegraph had the story plastered all over their Tueday’s edition and on bill boards throughout Lancashire.
All National Newspapers and Sky TV Sports News carried the story.
Talk Sport radio even had Glenn Mullan from the Blackburn Rovers action group to air his opinion on how Rovers fans will greet the news that Redknapp was to become their new manager.
It was all a spoof, and our National Newspapers and Media fell for it 'hook line and sinker'.
Redknapp’s agent, anxious to keep his clients name at the forefront, latched onto the Rovers job as being a possible creditable destination for Redknapp. Especially given the unpredictability of the Rovers owners. Redknapp’s agent was anxious that Harry should not be forgotten and a nudge in the direction of those Premiership clubs at the foot of the table was needed. QPR, SOUTHAMPTON, READING, and ASTON VILLA were put on alert that Harry would not be available forever.
The story had the desired effect and has Redknapp back in the forefront for the next Premiership vacancy that comes along. Redknapp was never to come to Blackburn.
So embarrassed was Redknapp at the media frenzy, the Daily Mail even had him at Ewood Park having an interview whilst he was at home in Bournemouth.

One thing is for sure it won’t be Redknapp.

Well 33 days on and if the media reports are to be believed then it is going to be Henning Berg.

This proves to me that OGS is a winner.
I believe that he would have been worth waiting an extra 2 ½ weeks to get him – assuming that he would be prepared to work for Venkys of course.
With regard to Henning Berg – if he was that good why was he out of work for a year?

To those who think Berg is the next great thing.... you are alone in your opinions since no other club has taken him up and he has been forced into punditry. We can live in hope but in the end reality will come crashing down. And you know this how exactly? It's comments like this that give all of us Rovers fans a bad name. Let's analyse what you've said shall we? "A) He is cheap." So we won't have to pay compensation to another team, good. That'll leave more money to put towards the running of the club. I dare say he'll still be on a decent wage but hopefully they've learned their lessons from last time. If he's as cheap as you think he is then it'll be easier to sack him should it not work out. "B) He won't question Shebby/Venky's." Seeing as how one would be his direct superior and the others his boss, I wouldn't expect him to be anti-establishment, it wouldn't be good for his job security. That would also be the case if it was Redknapp, Holloway, Shearer or Solskjær. However, Berg was a far more successful player than Kean so I'd like to think that his ideas would be given more consideration than his predecessors. "C) He won't bring his own staff so Black, Hendry, etc can keep their jobs." You can't possibly know whether or not he'd bring in his own backroom staff so what you're saying is just conjecture.
Why can't people just accept the owners are useless at running a football club and get on with it? No-one's ignoring what has happened over the last two years. It's a little unfair to suggest anyone who shows the slightest hint of positivity should be considered "ignorant". Especially considering the doom and gloom we've been forced to endure.
Of course the doubts remain as to what may happen in future - I have many - and no-one's thinking everything will suddenly change.
Venkys have shown they don't do "sudden". Their ill conceived business plan resulted in all the experience being driven out of the club, leaving themselves without any real contacts within the English game and at the mercy of unscupulous individuals (we all know who I mean) who took advantage of their ignorance.
They have since been caught like rabbits in the headlights, stumbling along with no-one to turn to for help - except Steve Kean. The fact they decided to appoint the heejut Singh to supposedly sort it all out shows how deperate they were.
They may well continue running the club as they have - i.e. badly - but who knows, even they may have learnt something over the last two years; time will tell.
In the meantime, let's enjoy the moment; appointing a new manager will be a positive sign, like it or not.

REDKNAPP RED HERRING. ITS HENNING BERG. Harry Redknapp’s agent through a spanner in the works on Monday, by leaking the news Redknapp would be interested in the Blackburn Rovers manager’s job. That Redknapp, to clear the air was interviewed on Talk Sport at 4pm on Tuesday afternoon, whilst praising Blackburn as being a good club with good fans he said “it isn’t for me and don’t know where the story has come from”. What happened to McLeish being nailed on, by the way? And has Shaw resigned yet since an experienced manager has not been appointed?
Venkys were described as having a scatter gun approach to the appointment of a new manager - a bit like you, I would say, given all you have done is list the names which have been mentioned and the rumours, press or otherwise, on each.
And with regards to your previous PS about Paul Merson stating the f@cking obvious; perhaps you missed this SEM client's emotional defence of Steve Kean when he was sacked, ably assisted by Charlie Nicholas of course who,as we all know has close connections with SEM. You should choose your sources more carefully. Still, why let that get in the way of you having a chance to sing the praises of your idol, BFS?
He's gone Reg, get over it.
Oh and a tip for your future copy and pasted posts; do a bit of editing.

Not from me just something my mate sent from a Norweigan fan
He wouldn't have been my first choice of manager - with or without knowing this info - but at least we now know a bit better that he has got SOME managerial credentials, much more than Sherwood, Shearer or McKinlay and at this stage we could have ended up with worse.
It's interesting how some people don't seem to know any of what you've posted about him yet already know for sure that he's a 'yes man'.
At the end of the day we didn't have the influence, cash or geographic advantage to be able to bring Redknapp in. Holloway's publicly said he's happy at Blackpool, probably a lost cause.
Thankfully there seems to be more positive comments about him than negative - exactly how it should be considering the prolonged spell of pessimism and doom that's been hanging over us.
I, like ElleBeee and others, am embarrassed to be associated with some of the Rovers fans on here. Please, if you can do nothing but criticise a new manager and boo the team / players before even giving him / them a fair chance, stay at home. You're doing nothing to help BRFC win games and would save yourself money and aggro at the same time.
Not a Kean lover, Not a Venkys lover, Not a Shebby lover, Not even a Berg lover yet, just someone else who is sick of wasting time complaining about things that aren't realistically going to change in the near future and who can see that the best way to show love for your club is to latch on to the positives and GET BEHIND THE TEAM, especially when we need a boost.

KEAN MUST NOT SUCCEED Steve Kean’s constructive dismissal action against Blackburn Rovers must not be allowed to succeed. Reg. wwww, regoftherovers. co.uk
Anyhoo, it'll be settled out of court - these things usually are.
Kean gets a bit more than he would if he had been sacked and no dirty laundry aired by either side; it makes sense all round.

Hope he's a success but I won't give clueless Singh and Venkys any credit if he is. They haven't done a thing right so far. If Henning is the right man it will be through a lucky accident of fortune, not good football decision making.
As a Rovers fan since 1963 I am fed up with all the doom, negativity and division that has become the norm recently. Some Rovers fans actually want the team to fail just so their predictions can be proved right. If you don't want to give any new manager a chance there are plenty of other teams not too far away that you can go and watch!
While I'm on that subject, do some of the travelling Rovers fans know how embarassing they appear to other supporters with their Burnley obsession? I went to Forest and Derby and at least half the singing and chanting was not about supporting Rovers but was all about displaying their pathetic bigotry. And before anybody says anything I'm from Burnley sorry to spoil your day. I've no time for Burnley idiots either.
Just get behind the Rovers!

Their record in past 10 years is;-
2003 9th
2004 11th
2005 12th
2006 14th and relegated
2007 Div 1 winners (equivalent to our Championship)
2008 9th
2009 2nd
2010 11th
So your claims that they are the 2nd biggest team in Norway certainly isn't based on the number of trophies they have won.
Capacity wise, their stadium is the only the 10th largest in Norway.

Whoever get's the job deserves our support. The fact that we are lumbered with Shabby, Hendry, Shaw etc is NOT the new managers fault. If it is Henning then good luck to him and lets all get behind him. Yes the club is a joke. Yes our global adviser is not much more than an ex pub footballer and TV gobshite, yes the infastructure of the club has been wrecked by the half witted half wits frome Pune (where would they have got in life without daddy setting them up). No matter what the state of our club is it is not the fault of the new manager so please, please, please lets get behind him. We are no longer a well run, stable and respected premier league club that could attract the managers from the top table. We are unfortunately a badly runchampionship side in dissaray. We quite rightly hate the destruction that has been wreaked upon our club. We despair at the idiots who have been appointed to run the club by the even bigger idiots in pune. I think it's fair to say that we won't be at peace till the collection of half wits referrred to previously have gone from our beloved club. At least the ultimate scumbag Kean has gone. One down and a few more to go yet. Henning Berg however has simply applied for a job at his former club where he is respected and remembered fondly. If he is appointed the we must all get behind him and support bioth him and the team. Nothing else is good enough. We the fans protested long and hard against kean for very good reason. most, if not all of us know without doubt that Kean needed to be removed and we the fans took the only action we could to remove him. We did it for the good of our club. If we carry on to protest after a new manager has been appointed then we are quite rightly open to critisism that we are damaging our club even further. We wiil we be open to derision and we will deserve it. I will welcome the new manager and offer 100% support. The mess we are in is not of his making. Good luck Henning. I am right behind you and hope that i speak for all the other Rovers faithful past and present. Good luck!!!!!!!! COYB 33yrs
I'm watching the dissenters closely ?
Sociopathic behavior as to end or BRFC, along with it's supporters, will become even more vilified and mocked.
I care not what any others think over BRFC, but this is a different story - in my opinion ?
The supporters must give Berg 100% support and be patient (unless of course the blindingly obvious rears it's ugly head), but I doubt that will happen I'm that confident with Berg.
On winning things that still as to be revealed, but I would say he knows what it takes to win - priceless :)
Here is to Henning.

Well 33 days on and if the media reports are to be believed then it is going to be Henning Berg.
At the present moment they are 3 points clear at the top with just 3 games to go.
This proves to me that OGS is a winner.
I believe that he would have been worth waiting an extra 2 ½ weeks to get him – assuming that he would be prepared to work for Venkys of course.
With regard to Henning Berg – if he was that good why was he out of work for a year?
Why was he not been snapped up by other Norwegian clubs?
I don’t know, but if he is appointed as manager later today he will have my full support and backing.
As for being out of work for a year, that isn't true. He's been working as a TV pundit in Norway, just like many British managers do between club roles.
Has it not occurred to you that he was happy to take some time out after what happened at Lillestrøm? Like many other managers he may have been waiting for an opportunity to manage in another country.
There's no guaranteeing that Berg will bring success but then again there's no guarantee that Solskjær would either. Winning the league with the second best team in the country doesn't make you a tactical genius.

Less than 40 years ago they were practically an amateur team.

After all, he's not going to disrupt the last three games of a potential title-winning season to ask Molde for permission to talk to Rovers before then.
Well 33 days on and if the media reports are to be believed then it is going to be Henning Berg.
Based upon what exactly?
I've already pointed out that last year 2011 they won the title for the first time in 100 years.
Their record in past 10 years is;-
2003 9th
2004 11th
2005 12th
2006 14th and relegated
2007 Div 1 winners (equivalent to our Championship)
2008 9th
2009 2nd
2010 11th
So your claims that they are the 2nd biggest team in Norway certainly isn't based on the number of trophies they have won.
Capacity wise, their stadium is the only the 10th largest in Norway.
The club's history, stadium capacity, recent league positions and number of trophies won do not appear to count.
I believe that the vast majority of football fans would disagree with your argument.
Molde may be playing to packed stadiums at the moment but that is due to the success achieved under their present manager OGS - see original post.
The vast majority of Norwegian football fans disagree with you, end of.
End of.
Well thats just what you have here.
Your argument is based on what a work colleague has told you and you have absolutely no facts or figures as proof.
You started off by saying that Molde had far more resources than Lillestrom, that they were the 2nd biggest team in Norway and then went on to refer to Molde's fan base.
Largely due to their current manager Molde are riding high at the moment and like any successful club they will attract new fans just like our club did in the 1990's. But as I have aready proven to you, prior to that their record was pretty poor and they were actually relegated in 2006.
On the other hand, Lillestrom (Berg's previous team) hold the record for the most consecutive years in the top league in Norway, have won the league 5 times and according to Wiki they have the 2nd biggest fan club in Norway.
These are facts not hearsay.
To summarise, I would have preferred OGS as our new manager but I accept the appointment of Henning Berg and as I previously said, I will give him my full support and backing.
Whilst I am sure that you will feel the need to come back once again for the last word I won't be reading it. Bye.

You think I'm wrong about Molde beening the second biggest club in Norway for about twenty years - your argument being based on the number of trophies that they have won - despite being informed that I've been told this my numerous Norwegian work colleagues. Not one, as you said in your last post.
To 'prove' your point further you cite Lillestrøm's record for continuous seasons in the top flight and the number of trophies they have won. The fact that they have only won one in the last twenty years, compared to Molde's three, should speak for itself. Also, Everton have continuously been in the top flight longer than every other English team except Arsenal. Are you implying that they're a bigger club than Manchester United, Liverpool or Chelsea?
As for the second biggest fan club comment, fan clubs aren't fan bases. Also, most teams these days have more than one fan club so it's impossible to measure the exact numbers of 'subscribers'. Most importantly, the majority of football fans aren't members of fan clubs. Just for the record, you haven't provided any proof of anything you've said either but I've got my information from the source whereas you've relied on Wikipedia to prove your point.
I'd ask you if you fancied continuing this discussion over a beer sometime but I find it rude when I'm talking to someone and they're looking at their phone every two minutes.
You will read this and it'll eat you up inside trying not to reply.

The woman who knows nothing about football and as far as I'm aware has been to only one football match.
I suspect this is all down to finances in the end and not ability.
What a joke....laughable, utterly laughable.
