Redknapp no to Rovers

Harry Redknapp Harry Redknapp

Harry Redknapp has dismissed reports linking him with the vacant managerial post at Blackburn.

Rovers have been without a manager since Steve Kean resigned to end a troubled reign a month ago.

Speculation suggesting Redknapp could be the next man in Ewood Park hotseat began to gather pace at the end of last week and reports this morning suggested the he was set for talks with the Rovers hierarchy today.

But the 65-year-old, who has been out of work since parting company with Tottenham this summer, is not interested in managing the npower Championship outfit.

"When we saw the speculation, I asked where it was all coming from, it`s not for me," he told Sky Sports News.

"They`ve got a good squad, a good support but it`s not for me.

"Blackburn is a good club with great traditions going back many years, with Kenny (Dalglish) going there and winning the championship, they have a real tradition.

"It`s not something that would be for me."

Former Norway international Henning Berg is the current bookmakers' favourite for the Blackburn job, while Argentinean icon Diego Maradona was linked overnight.

Approaches for Berg's fellow ex-Rovers Tim Sherwood and Billy McKinley have been rejected by Tottenham and Fulham where the pair hold respective coaching roles.

I suspect Berg will end up with the job. From pundit to manager, is a great move FOR HIM. As far as Venkys are concerned he ticks the following boxes.
1. Relatively cheap. (no compensation)
2. Needs the job and for that kind of money will do their bidding and keep his mouth shut!
What a farce its been from start to finish. Remember Venkys never actually got round to sacking the worst manager we've ever had. They, (Venkys) are the real problem at this club. They haven't made a single positive decision for the benefit of the club since they arrived and i'm afraid they aren't about to start any time soon. Hope i'm hopelessly wrong!

I'm with Irish on this, what's wrong with Berg ? Beggers (which we are) can't be too choosy. At least Berg has strutted his stuff at the highest level, two Premiership titles, with us and United - and please no schoolboy mardy talk about "betraying". European Cup with United. He played very successfully for us in the Championship promotion team and was named in the PFA players of the season that year. League Cup winners with us. So, relevant experience.
Failure at mangement ? Sir Alex was on the point of being sacked until a lucky cup win. Get real. "Failure" is part of life, where do some of you guys work ? What kind of professional experience have you had, anywhere ? or have you had an unblemished career of non-stop over-achievement ?
I'm not renewing my season ticket as long as Venkys are there, but if Berg gets it, I'll turn up to support and give the benefit of the doubt for now to an outstanding former player and one of the best footballing centre halves I've seen since Mike England.
Besides Berg speaks better English than Orr, Dunnie, Lowe, Robbo etc.

The worrying thing is in 4 weeks what has the club actually done to get a new manager?????? 2 phones calls for Sherwood and McKinlay, not interviewed Holloway, McCarthy or Shearer, then after 4 weeks, Berg is interviewed, THAT HAS BEEN IT!!!??? Don't make me laugh about "not rushing a big decision" this is incompetency again, if Berg IS the outcome I am totally underwhelmed ,I still haven't got my Rovers back. You can't blame the owners for being tight with the ourse strings. After all they forked out eight million on a striker. Venky's may be guilty of many things but they have gambled the family silver on an immediate return to the top flight.

The major problem is the appointment of Singh to pacify the fans who justifiably complained at the appalling lack of cummunication and transparency last season. If anything the situation is worse with the slef-publicist regularly putting his foot in his mouth and having to backtrack, offering Kean a wrongful dismissal escape route, and making ludicrous claims to be attracting Redknapp or even Maradona to a place neither have even heard of.

It does look like Berg will be appointed simply because he is an ex player. He has a dubious record in his native homeland and is as dull as dishwater and not likely to inspire the temperamentally flawed Kazim Richards et al. Whilst Burnley and Bolton have queitly gone about securing the services of appratnly bright young managers who have both impressed with previous clubs, the Blackburn board aand their global adviser continue to spectacularly prove their incompetence to run a football club at this, or indeed any level.

With regards with this whole debacle, I feel like an absolute fool for ever thinking Harry would've joined Rovers. Shebby can't organise anything, least of all appoint a manager of Harry's calibre. So my decision is that if Berg comes, we cannot just automatically assume he will be failure. By boycotting him before he has even managed his first game is putting this whole new 'era' into doubt from the word go.

To be honest I wouldn't mind if Black got it. People say he is linked to Kean, however actions speak louder than words and his actions have proved he is honest, hard-working for the greater good of the club, and is nothing like that moron Kean.

Umm. Venkys have got world wide attention with 1) being linked with Arry via Shebby and 2) South American attention, where they have big business interests, by being linked with Maradonna That's what they are all about with Rovers. World wide publicity. And they are still well in profit from transfers and parachute money. . They couldn't give a toss about Blackburn, Rovers or their supporters. They are total and utter shysters. The other thing worth noting is the Arry rumour has been going on for sometime. Why did he wait until this afternoon to deny interest? We are being taken for a huge ta- ta, and when they appoint Berg that'll be it for me, folks and I'll say 'ta-ta!'...

It's quite obvious that the fans have been lied to. Singh has been stringing us along. He put out talk of getting a young up and coming manager and Berg is neither. If Berg or Hoddle (does he know he applied or is he just another lie in the making) get the job it will show again that nothing has changed and that the owners regard Blackburn fans as a bunch of morons. It's infuriating that Bolton and Burnley can have appointed credible managers and that Singh & Co with all their weasel words about taking time over the appointment then end up with a has-been and a never-will-be on their shortlist.

Grayson is doing fine considering someone whipped his 8 million pound striker. Why did leeds sack him below.

"We have to acknowledge the previous three seasons Simon got us to the League One play-offs then promotion and then we finished seventh and we have backed him all the way," Bates told Yorkshire Radio

So we are left with Berg, an untried manager at this level in the English League. Someone should be asking Shabby, and insisting on an honest answer, "Just how many candidates have you actually interviewed". I am dreading the decision coming tomorrow.

I'd be surprised if it's not....and the only course of action I'm afraid is an all out strike until whoever owns the club have sold up. It is time more of the "Do gooder" supporters voted with their feet and stopped feeding these parasites. Had more people took this course of action 18 months ago then it is possible we might have been heading in the right direction by now. Instead, the farce continues and looks like getting even worse.

Nonsensical? No, I think you'll find it makes perfect sense. You mock Rovers in typical desperate dingle style by reminding us of the Ronaldinho farce. So, I created a new file and inserted Owen Coyle and Eddie Howe into it, to remind you that your tin-pot club is so unattractive and unimportant, very average managers chose to 5hit all over it at the first opportunity, the latest and most comical of which was to go back to a former club that plays in a division below.

Who do we expect to come here? We have just been relegated and have the Venkys as owners and Shebby as God knows what. Berg is probably the best we can expect to come.
Let's welcome him and get on with supporting the team we all love.
I'm with you and Irish Rover on this.
Too many supposed supporters jump on here and scream "Boycott" when a name is mentioned that they don't fancy.
Henning doesn't come across as a yes man but a knowledgeable guy, ex player, proven winner and somebody who has gained managerial experience at the lower end and deserves his chance to work his way up.
We cannot moan at every mentioned name and vent our displeasure at persons we dont fancy.
Everybody has opinions and are entitled to them in the same way that everybody deserves a chance.
I'd personally take Berg above Harry splash the cash redknapp, Dour McLeish n Ian nutcase Holloway.

Just remember Dingle. When you look at Rovers you still have to look UP.
The only time i see "rovers" is when I look UP the meaning of laughing stock!!

AUSTIN FOR ENGLAND
The only time you see Rovers, is when you look up the league table. When was the last time your tinpot little club was above Rovers?

We are a total shambles from top to bottom, and have been for nearly two years. But, we are still above you w@nkers. So what's your excuse, knobber?
You say you're laughing at us. We've been laughing at you f****** losers for over THIRTY YEARS! IDIOT!

Oh and BTW, you were'nt on the Rovers pages at the weekend, why was that then? Because we won and you LOSERS got spanked by Cardiff was it? You, are a bell end!

How can we trust them whomever does must be stupid,we're are the venkys were is mrs desia ??? Never heard sight or sound off them since the lover boy went
Please please we must find a way off kicking this entire lot out of this club before we're regagated again cause that's were rovers are heading

I really cannot believe some of the postings on here in the last few weeks, anyone would think that venkys had just took over and we were having the urine took out of us for the first time. There was obviously no plan to find a manager because the sacred cow would not have allowed kean to be sacked, and they certainly didn't expect him to walk away ,therefore when he did the unthinkacle , a quick plan was hatched to make Black the caretaker manager till he'd done well enough for them to declare that he had earned a chance to be the full manager, whilst throwing all these names about like they were actively seeking a replacement (just like they did with the odius kean) unfortunately Black didn't win the matches he was expected to win,so they've had to drag the supposed search out in the hope that he would do well enough at some point for them to put the only plan they have into action, They have now got many fans on here actively touting for Black to be given the job. The only decision they now have to make is whether to give the job solely to Black or to take on a B list name to work alongside him as an attempt to appease the natives somewhat . They havent interviewed or even contacted any of the big names that THEY put out to the local media because they had no intention of taking a manger on who would definately demand to be allowed to run the team in an honest and proffessional way. I've read postings also about this personal investment on players this season as evidence of their honest intentions, well , if you take the time to work out just how much they have made through player sales since they took over, add this to the wages saved by forcing out staff who were the backbone of this once proud club, and either replaceing them with lesser staff (or the odius ones pals) on less money or not replacing them at all, then add the players wage reductions that have kicked in with relegation as well as this seasons parachute installment, and then tell us again how generous they've been in spending a mere fraction of the ammount they have bled from the club so far. To these parasites the club is and will remain their personal cash cow to be milked at will. They intend to buy cheap unknown players, give them a place in the squad for a while then sell them on at profit. this is also why they panicked so much when we were relegated as they not only need the premiership revenue but also the prestige of being a premiership side as the players they bring in will be worth much more as prem players than just playing in the lower leagues. I really hope i'm just suffering from venkys induced paranoia brought on by two years of this nightmare... Guess I'll find out when the new manager is announced .........R.T.I.D. since 1969

Berg.......No thanks, he has done nothing in the past to even suggest he will be a good manager for Rovers, poor track record at best.
Grayson or Hollaway, otherwise we may as well keep Black. It will be a suprise to most who they appoint but I think that they are set to make their biggest mistake so far
I have changed my mind who I want in charge, and it is now Grayson.
I like most people have no faith in the Venkys to do the right thing, and for good reason.
These so call up and coming boys, some of who have already tried and failed to manage a team properly, o I wish I could speak to them!

My thoughts exactly, with Black keeping his job as well.
Get him in and stop messing about.
You've got to be having a laugh! He got Birmingham relegated and then in the next season almost did the same to Villa. The guy's almost as clueless as Kean.
He also got them promoted in great style the season inbetween. And won the cup too! They were the best team I have seen relegated, and only were because of injuries. Still Villa hired him, but gave him no money, & in any case the fans didn't give him a chance. He's a proper manager, though it appears we may end up with 'The Fallen Maradonna With The Big Boobies'!

Whatever happened to the long list of high calibre applicants which came as a ‘pleasant surprise’ to Shebby? Now we are reduced to a short list of one up for interview, talk about clutching at straws. I’m sorely disappointed we evidently didn’t even speak to Shearer when he showed interest on live TV. When dear old Jack Walker decided to aim for the stars he set his sights on his number one target and went out and got his man. I don’t think he was too proud to make the first approach for someone of that calibre. But Jack had real class, what can we say about the current shower??

Jack had Hendry's card marked...he would not have entertained having him on the staff and would not be interested in the names mentioned either. He would have prob gone for Shearer (to put bums on seats) or McCarthy (for his experience of getting clubs promoted).

Only my opinion but whoever comes in we have to back n support n give them every chance and pray that we start to become the pride of Lancashire again n not continue being the butt of everyone's jokes !

How many accounts have Shebby and Hendry set up today to attempt to hoodwink the supporters...it is just plain embarrassing. Harry is right to steer clear of the idiots running this funny farm. Everyone should boycott until the club is restored to some ounce of normality....start by getting rid of the ESPN bum chums...Hendry and Singh...AND NO TO EMPLOYING ANY OF HENDRY'S FORMER DRINKING MATES TO HELP FUND HIS LAVISH GAMBLING LIFESTYLE (AT OTHER PEOPLE'S EXPENSE)!!!! THAT MEANS A BIG NO TO: SHERWOOD MCKINLAY MCLEISH BLACK FLITCROFT BERG GRAYSON MAY ETC ETC . I'D RATHER HAVE THE MASCOT IN CHARGE AS LONG AS HENDRY IS SHOWN THE DOOR!!
I'm more interested in promotion.Alex Mcleish is most likely to achieve this, as he done so with Birmingham. He will get the best out of Dann, and make us solid at the back. Of couse OGS would've been my first choice and Gary Neville my second, and it wouldve been nice to have Harry. But Alex M is more likely to get us promoted.
I think you'll find Mick McCarthy has a better track record of getting teams promoted....but then again he isn't a buddy of Shebby's chum Hendry now is he?
I also remember Mick's Wolves being often hammered, not so Alex M's Birmingham who were a solid unit. But I have no problem with Mick.

You're either part of the Ewood PR machine or you just don't get it. Everyone who knows anything about football and business knows that the employment of the new manager is crucial to the future of the football club - dwindling crowds (even after Kean has gone) tells us that. Employ someone unpopular and the supporters simply will not return. As things stand now, it will take a high profiled and respected manager to get the fans back that are staying away...a poor decision could spell doom and gloom for the club. Nobody really knows the finances of the club...but as things stand (with supporters staying away and wages being high) then the model will certainly be unsustainable once the parachute payments run out - if not before. The freeloaders involved are fully aware of this and are out to make hay while the sun is shining. They couldn't give two hoots about the long term future of the football club. For me Singh needs to go - as does Hendry (they clearly have their own agendas which involve feathering their own nests) - and the board members need to get a grip on the situation URGENTLY!!

Unfortunately 77'sss it doesn't matter who gets the job the (fans) that are still not going will use Berg as an excuse to continue not going. The same (fans) that apparently were coming back once Kean had gone and would definitely come back if Redknapp had got the job. Smellthecoffee is a perfect example of this type of fan and to be honest I would rather these type of fans stay away and also clear off this site and whinge somewhere else. Whoever the manager is and it looks like it is going to be Berg we should get behind him and give him 100% support.

I totally agree that whoever is appointed...the fans need to return and support the team and give the new Manager at least until the New Year to saw his potential and intensions.
Unfortunately we have Singh on a ego trip PLUS we have owners with no knowledge of how to run a Football club and no desire to get alongside the fans, plus showing no CLEAR long-term commitement.
Both Singh & Venky,s have run this last month saga showing their lack of the basics....now they (Singh especially) have backed themselves into a corner....what comes seems now to be Berg.
FOR GOODNESS SAKE ...DON,NT HANG THE MAN BEFORE HE IS GIVEN A "FAIR GO".
...and for goodness sake, lets focus on supporting the team towards a possible promotion and less of this continued NEGATIVE ATTITUDE.

I'm with you and Irish Rover on this. Too many supposed supporters jump on here and scream "Boycott" when a name is mentioned that they don't fancy. Redknapp, 65, was on standby to fly north and have an interview for the managerial vacancy once the financial details had been agreed between the two parties.
But it soon became apparent that no such agreement would be reached, with Redknapp's representative Paul Stretford understood to have stated his camp's displeasure that Blackburn had chosen to interview Henning Berg on Monday
Henning Berg to be announced as manger today according to several sources. So much for an experienced manager as opposed to one that costs nothing.
The Venky's and Shebby have learnt nothing about what the fans want. Well they can go to hell as far as i am concerned because that is where this club is heading unfortunately.

Remember when we were in the Prem under John Williams and we were looking for a new manager? Mark Hughes was taking a chance because he had no managerial experience at club level. Paul Ince was obviously taking a chance and look how he turned out.

We are in the championship now, we can no longer attract the managers we struggled to when we were in the Prem.

Henning Berg would be a decent appointment for us.

These aren't new accounts, they are real fans being realistic.

We are not Real Madrid. Stop moaning like a whore if our managerial choice isn't the same as theirs.

The arrogance of this strategy, if true, and Harrys denials, adds weight to the view that Stretford and Rednapp were just seeking leverage for a deal with QPR.

Yes, the fans want a top drawer Premier League appointment, or they will scream and stamp their feet like babies.

Remember Paul Ince? We were in the Prem then. We weren't beating off top drawer appointments to go for Ince though. Blackburn Rovers simply doesn't attract top level managers, we haven't done for a long time.

Get in the real world. This isn't the Jack Walker era, that's passed. It was a once in a lifetime event for most football fans - rarer in fact. Stop moaning therefore if it just isn't like that anymore. It's just being called a fan of a normal football club.

When Kean left it gave them the perfect opportunity to bring in a proper manager as they must have seen that he wasn't up to it.
Again, after relegation, and the shambles we have seen during the last two years it looks like they're going down the route of the young, untried and inexperienced again....Why?

As things stand now, it will take a high profiled and respected manager to get the fans back that are staying away...a poor decision could spell doom and gloom for the club. Nobody really knows the finances of the club...but as things stand (with supporters staying away and wages being high) then the model will certainly be unsustainable once the parachute payments run out - if not before. The freeloaders involved are fully aware of this and are out to make hay while the sun is shining. They couldn't give two hoots about the long term future of the football club. For me Singh needs to go - as does Hendry (they clearly have their own agendas which involve feathering their own nests) - and the board members need to get a grip on the situation URGENTLY!! . Forget Sherwood, Hill, Flitcroft, McKinlay, Berg, Grayson, McLeish and all Hendry's other buddies and employ Shearer with Newell and/or Dowie or Mick McCarthy with his own backroom team....even Mark Hughes and co could be worth a shout(if a deal could be struck with QPR). Unless Venky's stop treating the club as a plaything then I fear for it's future.
So its either Shearer,McCarthy or even Hughes for you, others its Holloway,Grayson etc. So really as I said, there is no census of opinion with the fans who should be the next manager. "Get Kean out and watch 10,000 come back" remember what everybody was saying, well now he has gone, now its we want to decide who the next manager should be,only we cant agree who it should be. " Employ someone unpopular and the supporters simply will not return" unpopular for who? you? You yourself has touted 3 names. I wouldn't have any of those. If you don't want to go to watch Rovers, don't go,nobody is forcing you. But don't expect others to agree with you. I will carry on going and support the team,I don't really care what you do.
haha...yet another account spouting your bile. How on earth the LET haven't got onto you by now I'll never know....or have you struck a deal with them through idle threats? Go and destroy another football club and leave Rovers supporters in peace.

Alpha and smellthecoffee, do one. You are boring!!!! All you do is complain. Go and support another team. I think Man City are probably the best team for you to support as they are the champions at the moment. You can always change when things are not going the way you like it to this seasons champions. Either get behind the new manager, whoever that is (looks like Berg) and support the team. This is what fans do by the way. Or !!!! off. You do my head in!!!
I've been supporting the club through lesser periods than this (back to the old third division) but at least the club was managed by people who genuinely cared. You, my friend, have been "supporting" them since you saw an opportunity to cash in on Jack's financial legacy. Your numerous accounts and "footprinted" statements shouldn't fool anyone with even the slightest intelligence.

But it soon became apparent that no such agreement would be reached, with Redknapp's representative Paul Stretford understood to have stated his camp's displeasure that Blackburn had chosen to interview Henning Berg on Monday Henning Berg to be announced as manger today according to several sources. So much for an experienced manager as opposed to one that costs nothing. The Venky's and Shebby have learnt nothing about what the fans want. Well they can go to hell as far as i am concerned because that is where this club is heading unfortunately.
It's just being called a fan of a normal football club.
....and yet another account. You must be getting ready with the fanfare for the appointment of...."drum roll"....HENNING BERG!! What a joke....but at least JA, Shebby, Eric and Colin will keep the money rolling in eh?

Taxi for Shebby, and keep the clock running so you can come back and pick up the owners and the rest of the board. the club has been torn apart from top to bottom. When Kean went I for one was prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt, no more the whole lot of them are clueless , they would struggle to run an a non league side. I hope they are feeling totally embarrassed at this farce, Bolton and Burnley have shown us up for what we are now, a total Joke !!!!!!!!!!
Here! Here!! No to former players apart from Shearer (who clearly wants his own backroom staff!!!)

Sam Allardyce? Oh hang on......
Sadly...Big Sam was one of those managers that liked to make his own decisions on transfers, rather than being the puppet for other people's commission payments.
