Blackburn Rovers Blog: Silence the boo boys for something to cheer (From This Is Lancashire)

Mark atkins and Jason wilcox were the target of the boo boys when we won the prem but they have the medals to silence them.

I think Black as done a tremendous job at Blackburn in the circumstances, he as got them back in the top six, is playing the defence in their right places, unlike Kean who was playing them out of position, square pegs in round holes does not work.
Also is after match comments are honest and frank.
Not saying he should be the next manager, but credit were it is due.

I don't get this booing thing anymore. Back the players and stop making us loo like a poor club that boos it's own players.

The booing of players is definatly not on and is counter productive ,but it shows the total frustration at the events that have gone on at the club over the past couple of seasons.

When will Blackburn Rovers be run properly and fans addessed like a proper clubs ,it HAS been PATHETIC for a long time now .

Dan, couldn't have put it better myself, the boo boys have destroyed the atmosphere at Ewood and are continuing to do so.

I though that when Kean went that would be that but they have realised that if they scream enough abuse at an individual they can drive anyone out of Ewood.

I bought my season ticket at the very last minute basically because my daughter kept nagging me to do so as she wanted to continue going, but on Saturday she didn't go to the game preferring to go swimming with her friends. I didn't force the issue.

I have been a Rovers fan and supporter for 40 years and a ST holder since the 1980's, I have supported them through thick and thin and would never ever think of booing a Rovers player irrespective of how they were playing.

But I really don't look forward to going down to Ewood anymore, part of this is because I hate what Venky's have done to my Club which once sold itself quite rightly as "The Pride of Lancashire" but is now a laughing stock across the world.

But the greater part is that the boo boys have taken over at Ewood.

It's no longer "fun" to go there, the atmosphere is appauling and atmosphere at sporting venues is always created by the fans, sadly some so called Rovers fans remain so blinkered by hatred they have forgotten how to support their team, their club.

It is disgraceful that a small percentage of Rovers fans can so easily turn on a player in a blue and white shirt and subject them to booing both before they even get on the field of play and also during a game. It does absolutely nothing for the player, for the team or the reputation of the club and it taints the whole Rovers fan base with its sheer ignorance, nastiness and poor sporting behaviour. Murphy and CKR are the latest recipients of the booing but both are likely to play a big part in any success that we have this season.

At the Wolves game it was the away supporters that were booing Murphy. I was in the middle of the stand near the top behind the net and the booing was coming from my left.

Anyone trying to suggest that the fans can negatively affect a player's performance is simply providing them with ready-made excuses.

When you see police officers or paramedics being continually professional in the most extreme situations of provocation, it kind of puts these overpaid primadonnas to shame, when they complain about a handful of boo boys.

Don't totally agree with DC, as this is 'rolling over' from the continuing circus that is Venkys ownership.
It is them that has tainted BRFC's reputation and standing within the game.
The supports reaction to all of this is borne totally out of frustration.

there were some arguments between fans at blackburn end as a small minority were booing and others were telling them off. It may be better for boo boys to stay away if they dont like certain players or management. This may benefit the club if they stayed away.

Whilst its never good to hear any player being booed, alot of what is going on is a hang-over from the Kean era (anyone who thought all our problems would disapear when he did is very naive).

I don't agree with booing however Jordan Rhodes looked physically sick with how CKR wrestled the ball off him for the penalty on Saturday

Atmosphere reflects the feeling within the club - frustration being to the fore.

Also genuine Rovers fans are still concerned about the way the club is being run.

Fans should not dictate who is or is not appoint but it is worrying that names such as Maradona should be thrown into the ring at this late stage( or is it?)

Some fans were shouting/arguing with a small minority off boo boys. Instead of bad atmosphere at games perphaps the boo boys should be more considerate to others and boo after the game is finsished.

How anyone can say that booing Danny Murphy is right is crazy! I'm not his biggest fan following his comments before he joined the club about how we play our football but he is now playing in Blue N White and i for one will back him! He obviously came to the club through his connections with Steve Kean but you have to remember that a lot of players will have that. Lets start to make Ewood the place where we sing and make a positive atmosphere for the players! The post about if you got paid £**** to have someone abusing you then you would do it - Of course you would but would you be able to do it to the best of your ability? NO!

occasionally, and in the right context, booing can add to an atmosphere. i am talking about cases like robbie savage, who were booed by opposing fans in comedic fashion, as if they were the pantomime villain. in many ways, players like savage revelled in this and no-one was hurt.
for me, football is at an extremely low ebb at the moment. and much of that is down to the fact that it has lost its sense of humour.
we have sky, ratcheting up even the most inconsequential game into some kind of full scale war; we have players paid extraordinary amounts which seem out of kilter with what they bring to the world; we have allegations of racism and unacceptable behaviour between adults; and we have fans that throw objects, abuse and fists because they can't behave themselves in a respectable fashion when they don't get absolutley what they want.
we have our troubles at rovers at the moment, but for fans to blame their booing on venkys, kean's legacy or players who don't appear to be pulling their weight, is laughable. only one person is responsible for the noise that you as an individual make, and that is you.
football has it's ups and downs largely we need to be more accepting of that. that is where the enjoyment comes from. we all like winning, but given that clearly that cannot happen all the time, how about we just enjoy going to watch a sport amongst like-minded people who know how to behave.
if you feel strongly enough about a situation to boo, then i'd rather you didn't go to the game. you'd be happier, the players would be happier, i'd be happer, i'm sure others would be too. and on top of that, you'd be £30 better off. everyone's a winner!

As for CKR, the man has GREEDY written all over his face. If you have watched him for more than 10 mins you would see this when he consistently shoots from 40 yards when better options are available. I agree 100% with DC on this one and knew what the reaction would be before I even got down to the comments..

It seems to be more important to some to vent the frustrations that we all feel than to create an better atmosphere for the team to play in.

He's not saying he can't understand why people boo.

He's not saying there's no reason to complain about life at Rovers right now.

He's not saying fans don't have the right to voice their opinion (I mean, get a grip, have these people forgotten how strongly DC defended the fans' reaction to SK, Venkys and co against the rest of the media mere months ago??)

He's saying that booing - a month after SK has left - will only make the team, or specific individuals, play worse. HOW IS THAT DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND?

It gets past the point of being logical and actually starts lending credence to the outsiders when they come out with things like 'maybe if you spent less time booing your own team and getting behind them...etc'

We ALL feel f**cked off with the way things have been handled over the last 2 years.

I'm not too proud to admit that I was as hard on Keith Andrews as the rest of them. Now he's still playing in the Prem, playing better than he ever did, while we're in the Championship...I can't believe I never thought for a second 'maybe he plays badly because the fans tell him he's sh*t'..

What makes a player / team dig that bit deeper and raise their game when its needed ? Is it -

a) being booed whenever their name is called out / the ball goes near them / they go a goal behind

OR

b) having the crowd make the right kind of noise, singing right from the first to the last minute and shouting 'come on' at players rather than 'get off' / 'your useless' etc.

If they are the best players to be selected, then yes, without doubt, I'm happy to see them in a Rovers shirt.

And if they are selected I want them to perform to the best of their abilities, and so booing them would be the last thing I'd want to do.

If you could understand that, it would go a long way to you being a much happier Rovers fan in the future. The rest of us would be happier too.

Steve Kean has gone now. This shouldn't be a vendetta against all and sundry. It's childish and it serves no purpose.

Been arguing against the boo boys on these pages since last September. The argument is simple, do the boo boys and demonstrators help the club or damage the club? The answer is quite simple, they damage the club, both with their effect on team performances and the reputation of the club. They contribute nothing positive whatsoever.

It has been going on a long long time, they even booed Shearer on his first return to Ewood with Newcastle.

Many more fans are not going to matches because of the diabolical atmosphere, far more than have been boycotting matches. That's why attendances haven't increased significantly since Kean left.

In the old days most of the fans could play football to a reasonably high level and understood the game much better, the modern football fan does well to walk home after a game.

Dan Clough is quite right, wouldn't take any notice of the ignorant knobheads who post on this site.

Yes I am happy to see Murphy and Orr in rovers team when manager selects them. I actually cheered Murphy and Gomez when they came on and the substitutions worked as we score and won the match.

How can anyone boo a Rovers player? Come off the ground feeling bad, but to boo a player before he comes on or even playing is just stupid. We are all rovers fans, we all want the same thing. I bet all you rovers boo boys sing "rovers til i die" maybe you should change the lyrics to "rovers til i spit my dummy out" Unfortunately we live in an era of young people wanting everything and when it doesn't go there way boo or sulk. I have watched Rovers in the third division, followed them home and away all through the 80's never achieving promotion to division one, but had great times. Jack came along with his millions and how good was that feeling. Now we must get through this era, the Venky's will leave one day and then another new era.........But support your team!!!
