Rovers U18s slip to defeat

ROVERS Under–18s suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat away at West Brom over the weekend.

Terry McPhillips’ side found themselves two goals down before rallying to level thanks to a Tom Brown strike and a Jordan Preston effort, only to concede a late winner.

The result means Rovers have lost four of their last five games in the Premier Academy League having begun the season with two wins and a draw.

The youngsters were due to face Arsenal on Friday but that game has been called off and the under-18s are now not due back in action until the first weekend in November when they face Norwich.

Against Albion on Saturday Rovers fell behind early but created plenty of chances with Bradley Bauress hitting a post, Brice Wassi sending a shot just wide and Deniz Pero heading over as Rovers went into the interval a goal behind.

And they started the second half sluggishly as Albion doubled their lead just five minutes after the break.

But Rovers hit back and halved the deficit seven minutes later when Brown fired in off the post from outside the area.

Fve minutes later the comeback was complete as Jordan Preston, on as a substitute only moments earlier, got on the end of a Danny Laverty cross to find the corner of the net.

From that point it looked like there would only be one winner as Rovers continued to press.

But it was the hosts who stole the points with an 89th minute counter attack.
