FOOTBALL: Fuming Anthony Johnson told several of his players they would not play for Ramsbottom again after they lost 2-0 to mid-table Colne at The Riverside on Tuesday night.
The Rams co-manager pulled no punches after watching his side’s North West Counties Premier Division promotion hopes fade, claiming some of his players were “conning the managers and conning themselves” as they slipped to a second successive defeat.
“They look like they are trying hard but I could ask my four-year-old child to try hard,” he said. “It’s all very well screaming for the ball but what’s the point when you are not in a position to take it. People will be leaving this club soon — some sooner than later — as that performance was not acceptable.”
The poor result came on the back of Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat to Bootle.
United will be hoping to return to winning ways when they travel to Glossop North End on Saturday.
