SIR ALEX Ferguson has become Accrington Stanley’s 500th shareholder.
The Manchester United boss became a part of the League Two club’s history as part of a long-term plan to issue shares to fans.
Sir Alex was presented with his share certificate by Stanley director Peter Shaw and senior non executive Idris Khan, in a presentation at Manchester United’s training ground.
Stanley chief executive Rob Heys said: “Sir Alex’s gesture of support in becoming a shareholder is gratifying and we are truly touched by his support for an historic neighbour. Everyone at the club is looking forward to welcoming him to our next AGM, where he’ll receive one vote as an official shareholder”.
Sir Alex said: “Everyone has heard of Accrington Stanley and I am so pleased to see a small community club flourishing during these times. Long may they continue to be an active and healthy member of the Football League.”
Shares cost £100 each and can be purchased from the club shop or online at www.wearestanley.co.uk.
Other famous faces to buy a share in the club include celebrity fan and cricket legend David 'Bumble' Lloyd.

Have NO time for small minded and jealous anti-manure snipers.
Sir Alex's gesture is typical of the man, he may be a true footballing legend but he comes from poor beginnings and he has never forgot that.
Everyone love Accy Stanley and i will be seeking a share also.
You small minded Rovers fans could do worse than support your lowly neighbours, who knows in a few years ...

Perhaps Eddie Howe could buy one then at least you could put something in the trophyless cabinet.
