LEAM Richardson praised a team effort after Accrington Stanley jumped into the play-off positions in his first game as caretaker boss.
The defender was made part of a three-man interim managerial team, along with youth team coach Phil Hackney and veteran midfielder Bryan Hughes, following the departure of long-serving manager John Coleman on Monday.
And the Reds kicked off the new era with a win against Gillingham to move into seventh place, although the game wasn't as comfortable as it could have been.
Stanley went into the break with a 4-1 lead thanks to hat-trick hero Michael Smith, who set up Luke Joyce for other goal.
Gavin Tomlin scored twice in the second half to set up a nervy finish, but the Reds held out to the end to secure the win Richardson felt they deserved.
“They've shown their professionalism and worked hard all week and did exactly what they've been asked for,” said the 32-year-old.
“I enjoyed the firsy half but we made it hard work for ourselves in the second half.
“Gillingham were always going to throw themselves at it, but we're happy with the win.
“I couldn't have asked for a more perfect week.”
