ACCRINGTON Stanley midfielder Callum Johnson is determined to add more goals to his game having broken into the Reds' starting XI.

The Middlesbrough loanee has made 11 appearances for John Coleman's side this term and has featured in the last five games.

But he has yet to get on the scoresheet and is hoping to break his duck when the Reds resume action on Tuesday in the Checkatrade Trophy at Lincoln City.

The 21-year-old said: “I know I need to chip in with goals as we need goals from all over. I have had a few shots and a few chances and am trying my best. I need to chip in and hopefully it will come soon.”

Johnson's time at the Wham Stadium is his first involvement in senior football having only played Checkatrade Trophy matches for his parent club's Under-21s prior to making the move to East Lancashire.

And the midfielder said he is starting to feel at home at Stanley.

“I have enjoyed it from the first day I came here,” he added.

“It’s so different to Under 23 football. This is men’s football, it’s more physical and there is the pressure of the games where results matter, it’s all about winning.

“I hate losing anyway but it’s all about making my own progress and helping the team make progress.

“When I first came it was frustrating as I wasn’t getting into the side but I understand that that’s football. I had to work extra hard to impress in training and take my chance when it came and I have made around 11 first team appearances now.”

Stanley are without a game this weekend owing to an early FA Cup exit and despite suffering defeat to Exeter last time out remain in the automatic promotion places in League Two heading into December.

The Reds' next league clash is a home game with top seven rivals Swindon Town and Johnson is confident of righting the wrongs of the defeat to the Grecians.

He told Stanley's official website: “Exeter are a good team but we know if we had played like we can, we would have been 100 per cent confident of beating them. We can play much better than we did and that’s the frustrating thing.

“We have had strong opponents the last few weeks and it’s about coming through that, learning from the Exeter loss and putting it right in our next game."
