STANLEY wideman Mekhi McLeod says he will learn from his red card having been sent off in the 2-2 draw at Notts County on Friday night.

The 20-year-old was dismissed for a challenge on Ryan Yates on 66 minutes with the score at 2-1.

McLeod was visibly upset by the decision of referee Carl Boyeson but was pleased to see Mallik Wilkes earn a point for the Reds with a late leveller.

“I felt it was a 50-50 ball,” said McLeod. “I got caught up in a tight space, their players were either side of me, and I have taken a heavy touch and then have gone again to get the ball and that’s the challenge I was sent off for.

“It might have looked bad as I was lunging and he had come over the ball but it was an honest challenge.

“I had come on against West Brom earlier in the week and felt I did well and really wanted to show the fans again what I could do but it wasn’t to be on Friday,

“It is a learning curve for me and I have to learn from this experience. It’s not an experience I want to have again but thankfully the boys have helped me by Mallik Wilks scoring on his debut to make it 2-2. I messed up for the team but thankfully the lads have shown great character and got a point.

“I am an emotional person and I think the reason I haven’t gone further in football yet is that I have to learn to control my emotions and that’s something this experience will help with.”

McLeod is now set for a three game ban.
