STANLEY star Shay McCartan believes a Good Friday victory over Blackpool can really ignite the Reds' play-off push.

John Coleman's side came from two goals down to beat Crewe 3-2 at the Wham Stadium on Saturday to move to within four points of the top seven with five games to play.

Blackpool are just two points ahead of the Reds, who are unbeaten in 13 games, heading into the fixture and McCartan, who took his tally for the season to 10 with another free kick strike at the weekend, knows how crucial the clash is.

“I am happy as I have 10 goals for the season and I want more," said McCartan.

"We 100 per cent believe we can get into the play-offs, we don’t fear anyone and Friday is a big game.

“Blackpool is now our main focus and we have to forget about the Crewe game and see what happens."

McCartan won the League Two player of the month award for March and continued his rich vein of form with another goal at Blackpool, his fifth in his last five games.

Defender Mark Hughes was also on target with a brace as a second half rally from Stanley kept alive their hopes of gatecrashing the play-offs.

And former Burnley forward McCartan believes the success also highlighted the character within Coleman's squad.

“We fought back from 2-0 down and showed great character to get a result," added McCartan, speaking to the club's official website.

"At 2-0 down we could have chucked in the towel but we didn’t give up.

“In the first half, I think we found it tough, we were struggling.

“We had harsh words at half-time and we came out in the second half a different animal and it showed in the result.

“Once Yozza (Mark Hughes) got one back we knew we could come back, we were creating chances and playing good football in the second half.

“Yozza has been brilliant all season in defence, he hasn’t scored but to score two goals in a game is a great feat for a centre half."
