NEW signing Sean Clare has revealed that Stanley’s reputation for playing good football was a major reason in him choosing to switch to the Wham Stadium.

The 20-year-old Sheffield Wednesday midfielder signed a loan deal until the end of the season last Friday, and made his Reds debut off the bench in Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Carlisle United.

Clare will be hoping to get the nod from manager John Coleman when Stanley travel to Middlesbrough for a fourth round FA Cup clash on Saturday (3pm).

And he says he’s already been impressed with the standard of his new club, word of whom have even reached South Yorkshire.

“The club seems to be a really good club,” said Clare.

“I’ve known about it for a long time – it’s a club that you know about even when you’re from where I’m from.

“The players are looking to play, they’re all eager to do their best and they made a good impression on me in the first training session. I believe this is a good place for me to come.”

Clare played the last 10 minutes against Carlisle, replacing goalscoring hero Shay McCartan as the Reds – reduced to 10 men following Matty Pearson’s early red card – battled it out for a point against Keith Curle’s promotion-chasing side.

But he wants to cement a starting spot as he looks to help Stanley climb away from the relegation zone.

He explained: “My first target is to get myself into the team.

“The manager has told me that if I do well then there’s always a chance I’ll be in his team, so that has to be my first goal.

“I have to try to get myself solidly in that team and from there keep improving, keep impressing and try to stay in the team really.”

He added: “I feel like I play better under a bit of pressure, when there’s something on the game.

“I think it’s all good experience. I feel like, with the players that are here, the club is in a false position in the league.

“If I can come in and add something to the team, a few goals, then hopefully I can help them fly up the table.”
