TEENAGE deadline day signing Zak Vyner faces two challenges after joining Stanley - impressing on the pitch and settling into life away from home.

The 19-year-old Bristol City defender agreed a switch to the Wham Stadium until January, completing Reds boss John Coleman’s summer business.

But before heading into tomorrow’s league Two game away at Carlisle United, first he’s got to find his bearings in unfamiliar surroundings, albeit in a house full of his new teammates.

It’s Vyner’s first spell away from Ashton Gate, where he has made four appearances for the Robins following a debut against MK Dons in February.

But he should be helped by the fact he has moved into the same accommodation as Aaron Chapman, Shay McCartan, Rommy Boco, Callam Jones and Omar Beckles He said: “This is the first time I’ve come away from home, so it is a challenge in that respect.

“The lads at the house have been brilliant and made me feel really welcome, so that’s a good start.

“I’ve spoken to the lads in the house who all signed either at the end of last season or in the summer, so it was new to them.

“I’m the newest one but they’ve welcomed me well.

“It’ll do me good to be somewhere new. Everything here is different and I have to get used to that but I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s a different challenge but I want to get stuck into it and give it a go here.”

The taste of first team action at City meant Vyner was keen to head to East Lancashire for the chance of senior games in League Two.

And he says the example of his friend Matt Macey, who played four games for Stanley at the start of last year before returning to his parent club Arsenal, also inspired his decision.

“I spoke to my agent and the gaffer and we got the deal done as quickly as possible,” he said.

“I came up straight away. It was a long journey, took me four-and-a-half hours, but the main thing is that I’m here now and have settled in well with the lads. I’ve come here wanting to play as many games as I can. I want to improve and better myself. I think I can do that here and it’ll give me the last thing I need to push on and play in the Championship.

“I know Matt Macey who was here a couple of years ago.

“He’s doing well at Arsenal now. A loan move can always lead to other things and that’s always good.”
