STANLEY had a penalty saved and hit the woodwork three times as they failed to turn their dominance into goals at Skelmersdale in a 1-1 draw.

The Evo-Stik side barely tested keeper Elliot Parish in the Reds first pre-season friendly but scored a last minute equaliser.

It was one-way traffic in terms of possession with former Stanley keeper Martin Fearon denying Shay McCartan and Seamus Conneely.

The Reds took the lead on 10 minutes when Conneely raced clean through but was brought down by Fearon.

Striker Billy Kee’s penalty was kept out by Fearon, Kee’s follow-up hit the post before winger Shaw’s scrambled effort found the back of the net to put Coleman’s side ahead.

A host of goals was expected to follow but Kee headed against the woodwork on the half hour mark while winger Sean McConville smashed the crossbar with a free kick just after the restart.

The game got disjointed as both Skelmersdale and Stanley put on a number of subs but, in the final minute, Rob Brodie headed home the leveller with Skem’s first shot on target.

Triallists Luke Wall and Patrick Lacey both got a run out for the Reds and most of the starting XI got an hour under their belts.

Coleman’s men travel to Stalybridge Celtic on Saturday (3pm).
