WORK is going on transform Accrington Stanley's Wham Stadium ground as the club continue to plan for another promotion assault next season.

The Reds were cruelly denied a spot in League One in the dying seconds of last season, with their goalless draw at home to Stevenage punished when Bristol Rovers snatched a late winner of their own against Dagenham and Redbridge.

John Coleman's side were then beaten by AFC Wimbledon in extra-time of their play-off semi-final, but despite their promotion heartbreak which is continuing off the pitch to try and move the club forward.

Owner Andy Holt is still waiting on the outcome of a planning application to build a new 1,500 capacity all-seater stand at the Whinney Hill end of the ground, but that is only part of the redevelopments taking place.

"We want to build a new stand but we’ve not got planning permission yet. It will take it’s course and there might be alterations and amendments, which is fine," said Holt.

"There’s a lot of other jobs we need to do around the ground whether we get planning permission or not. We need to fix the toilets, we need to get the turnstiles sorted, there’s so many things we need to do.

"We’re going to be having a new stand but we’re not standing still in the meantime.

"There’s a new pitch being laid, new fencing and walls going up so we can get a perimeter hoarding and more advertising. "There’s a hell of a lot going on."

On the pitch Coleman is continuing to wait on decisions from players who were offered contracts at the end of the campaign.

Last week Scott Brown became the second senior player offered a new deal at the end of the season to commit to the club, signing a two-year deal after Mark Hughes, while Billy Kee, Sean McConville and Matty Pearson penned new contracts during the season.

Josh Windass and Matt Crooks are leaving the club having signed pre-contract deals with Rangers, while Piero Mingoia has joined Cambridge, Ross Etheridge has signed for Doncaster and Dean Winnard has penned a deal with Morecambe.
