ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman has urged his side to keep going full throttle as the battle for promotion to League One hots up.

The Reds produced a fine display to beat free-scoring Leyton Orient 1-0 on Good Friday, in front of an excellent crowd at the Wham Stadium.

And today they look to make it a perfect Easter weekend with victory at Newport County, who have been beaten by Stanley’s fellow promotion-chasers Bristol Rovers and Northampton in their last two games.

Six of the top seven won on Good Friday, with only Oxford dropping points, and Coleman was delighted with the performance of his unchanged side in notching a second successive 1-0 win.

The Stanley chief knows tiredness will be beginning to creep in, but he is urging his players to give everything they’ve got over the final eight games.

“There’s going to be a lot of twists and turns between now and the end of the season and we just have to make sure we keep our foot on the gas and we keep going full throttle,” said Coleman. “There’s plenty of time to have a rest in the summer. There’s tired legs but we go again.

“I just hope that we can maintain that form. We set ourselves high standards, sometimes it’s difficult to stick to them but if we can get anywhere near them we could be successful.”

Coleman had a busy loan deadline day, bringing in attacking reinforcements in Andy Little and Tarique Fosu.

But after naming an unchanged side he kept faith with that XI for the full game. “Just when you thought our two wide players were going over the edge they were absolutely unbelievable,” said Coleman. “That’s what you need. I couldn’t ask for anything more.

“The fact we haven’t had to put on a sub and they’ve all put a shift in, they never looked like flagging, they kept on and kept asking questions and tried to get the second goal, and on another day we might have got it.

“Every single one of them was unbelievable. We’re going to need another eight of those performances if we’re going to go up.”
