JOHN Coleman has reiterated his firm stance on no January sales at Accrington Stanley, despite increased speculation about Josh Windass’s future.

The 21-year-old forward has been linked with a number of clubs - the highest profile among them Arsenal - while in his column for the Hull Daily Mail newspaper Windass’ famous dad, Dean, said he had advised his son to turn down a new contract offer at the club and that a “firm bid” would be made to the Reds this week.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s game at Cambridge United, where Stanley will look to extend their unbeaten run to five games, Coleman said he was not aware of any such offers for Windass, or any of his players.

And Coleman maintained that he would not be letting any of his squad go in the new year, as he looks to a promotion push.

“I find it quite funny to be honest because there have been one or two comments and people have been telling us what we’re going to do,” said Coleman.

“What they’re trying to say is that my statement saying no-one is leaving in January is a load of nonsense. Well we’ll see in January.

“No-one’s going in January. I could be setting myself up for the biggest egg on my face ever here if someone does go, but I believe what I’m doing is right so we’ll get on with it.”

Coleman said he did not expect Windass to be affected by any of the media reports.

The Stanley boss himself certainly isn’t.

“It doesn’t bother me in the slightest,” he said. “He’s done well this season. He can do better and he knows he can do better. He hasn’t been our best player this season, there’s been a few who will be pushing him for that.

“He’s part of a squad and he has to operate as part of a squad. He’s a good lad, Josh, there’s no problem with him.

“We just go about our business and let other people do the talking. We’ll try to do our talking on the pitch.”

Asked about the paternal aspect to the paper talk, Coleman added: “I was used to dealing with parents as a teacher. It’s water off a duck’s back.”
