JOSH Windass only scores spectacular goals – and he did it again to secure Stanley’s League Two status.

The Reds only needed a draw prior to last night’s game to guarantee John Coleman’s side Football League action next season and Windass’ strike helped to secure that vital draw - now the Stanley manager’s only headache is whether he can keep hold of the striker during the summer .

Windass, with one year left on his contract, has now got six goals in 12 games and this was a 25-yard rocket on 38 minutes and they looked on course for a win until veteran striker Marlon Harewood headed home the equaliser with ten minutes left for relegation-threatened Pool.

John Coleman stuck to the same team who drew 2-2 with Cambridge on Saturday with the only change defender Dean Winnard coming onto the bench after a few games out with a shoulder injury.

There wasn’t a lot to shout about for either set of fans in the opening 30 minutes and it needed a moment of magic to bring the game to life.

It came when Sean Maguire flicked on the ball to Windass seven minutes before the break and the striker volleyed home a rocket beyond Scott Flinders.

The home side were forcing the pressure after the break with Davies having to punch out an effort as the home fans ramped up the volume at Victoria Park.

It was all level when Harewood, now 35 and who had only been on the pitch three minutes, headed home Jordan Jones’s left wing cross with 10 minutes remaining.

Sub Scott Fenwick almost grabbed an injury time winner for Pool but fired over from six yards out. While Coleman will have been frustrated they didn’t win, the point was enough to celebrate league football in 2015/16.
