ACCRINGTON Stanley say that the cost of screening one Premier League game live on television would pay their club’s wages for 20 years.

Stanley have urged the public to back them in the wake of the Premier League’s new £5bn television deal, which will see domestic broadcasters pay more than £10m for every match screened live.

The Reds, whose midweek home game against Oxford was watched by only 1,065, took to Twitter yesterday to appeal for more support.

They said that selling 15 scarves at £10 each would pay the wages of one of their young professionals for a week.

That compares to the £300,000 a week salary that Wayne Rooney is reported to be earning at Manchester United.

Stanley said: “The Premier League has a new £5bn TV deal - £10m per match.

“One game would pay our annual wage bill for the next 20 years.

“If you'd like to help us you can. A share in ASFC is just £100 (or 0.0001 of a Premier League TV game).

“We may not be in the Premier League. We may not be on TV. We may not be glamorous.

“But we care about every share and shareholder.

“We're not saying be anti-Premier League. Just try to support the little guys.

“Buy a scarf. Go to a game. Small amounts make a big difference.

“Selling 15 (scarves) pays one of our young professionals for a week.

“So watch the Premier League on TV. Enjoy it. Just please keep an eye on your local lower league club.

“We all need your support.”
