ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman believes tomorrow’s long trip south to Plymouth Argyle will yield three points and an end to their losing streak.

The Reds have lost their last four games to slide down the League Two table but Coleman is confident his players will bounce back from last Saturday’s demoralising 5-1 defeat at home to Northampton.

And the Stanley chief believes his players can take heart from their previous two long-distance away trips this season at Portsmouth and Exeter which ended in Accrington wins.

Coleman said: “The players know the reaction that is required of them and expected of them and I am sure I am going to get it on Saturday.

“The players know they are good enough, we just have to get a level of consistency in our performance and we have got stop making horrendous mistakes that lead to goals.

“Last time we went down that far to Portsmouth we won, at Exeter we won so here’s hoping.”

The Reds manager looks set to resist wholesale changes to his squad despite the drubbing against Northampton, although new signing Scott Davies is set to replace Arsenal loanee Matt Macey in goal. The Gunners youngster’s loan spell ends after tomorrow’s match and it is likely he has played his last game for the club.

Coleman added: “You can’t have knee-jerk reactions to the Northampton game, it was a freak game.

“You can legislate for horrendous mistakes but you can’t legislate for horrendous mistakes by the officials.

“We have conceded 11 goals in the last four games. There wouldn’t have been 14 serious shots on our goal and out of those 14 shots five of them could have been saved. We are not defending that badly but the goals don’t lie so you have to do something about it.”

On Macey he added: “I still think Matt will have a future. It will be the best part of their learning curve that he can have.”

Coleman is expecting a tough test against the play-off chasing Pilgrims, despite Stanley recording a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture in September.

“I think they are the best team we have played this season,” added Coleman. “I thought we were very fortunate to win 1-0. We have lost games we should have won but that was the one game we won that we should have lost.”
