JAMES Gray’s late goal was not enough for Accrington Stanley as they were beaten at Leeds United in the League Cup first round.

Souleymane Doukara put Leeds in front in the 19th minute and then doubled the lead seven minutes before half time. Gray hit back from a Will Hatfield assist with six minutes to go to set up a grandstand finish.

Substitute Hatfield came agonisingly close to an equaliser against his boyhood club before Leeds saw Gaetano Berardi sent off for a poor challenge.

Kal Naismith, the subject of a rejected bid from Bury before the game, was substituted at half time at Elland Road.
