ACCRINGTON Stanley’s squad could have a Spanish flavour next season as they look to set up a formal link-up with a club in the country.

Reds boss James Beattie and assistant manager Paul Stephenson are due to make an end-of-season trip to Spain, and Stanley are in talks with an unnamed club about potentially sending players to the Store First Stadium next term.

“We’re going over to look at some players,” said Beattie, whose side can secure Football League survival at Oxford United this afternoon.

“There are a lot of players in Spain now who are looking to get over to England and they could fit the bill perfectly for this club.

“We’re trying to create a link, a sister club over there who would be a feeder club for us, for lads to come over from Spain and have an opportunity to showcase their skills in England.

“Obviously there will be other implications too. If lads come over here and do well then financially for the club it could be amazing, so that’s something we’re looking into for next season.

“We did look into it at the beginning of the season but it didn’t come off.

“This is another opportunity that some people have put to us, and hopefully going forward it will be a really good relationship.”
