James Beattie was disappointed with Accrington Stanley’s display as they lost 1-0 at home to Northampton Town.

Stanley, still six points clear of the drop zone, pressed without finding an end product with striker James Gray the closest when he had goalkeeper Matt Duke beaten but his shot sailed just wide of the far post.

John Marquis came close for the visitors while Duke pulled off a superb save to deny Kayode Odejayi in injury time as Northampton held on for a precious win.

“We haven’t put in a performance like that in many games over the last few months,” said Beattie. “We are disappointed but we have made remarkable progress this season, after not winning our first 12 league games.

“We are six points clear of the bottom two and we have to put this game out of our heads and go again.

“We weren’t at the races and we looked leggy. We made the wrong decisions and were getting frustrated. Things just didn’t fall for us but now we have got to put it right in our next game.”
