ACCRINGTON Stanley boss James Beattie was left to rue his side’s bad luck after insisting they did not deserve to lose at Rochdale on Saturday.

The Reds were beaten 2-1 at Rochdale after Matt Lund scored twice – the first coming in freak fashion after Piero Mingoia had volleyed Stanley ahead.

Lund’s equaliser came when Tom Aldred’s headed clearance rebounded off the Rochdale man and into the net.

“They scored probably one of the luckiest goals I’ve ever seen to get back into the game,” Beattie said.

“There’s nothing you can do about that goal. I said to the lads that you can train for years and never legislate for things like that, but it happened.

“Then there’s a sucker punch at the end when both teams had chances to score.

“I thought the lads were tremendous. For large periods of the game we were the better side.

“Piero scored an amazing goal and they changed their tactics and came at us.

“But we haven’t got what we deserved from the game, I thought the performance deserved something.”

Stanley are back in action at home to Morecambe tomorrow, in a match rearranged after being abandoned in February.

“The result’s disappointing but we have our chance to put things right on Tuesday,” Beattie said.
