MIDWEEK goal hero Peter Murphy is eyeing a repeat show as Accrington Stanley bid to extend their 14-match unbeaten league run against Morecambe this afternoon.

Murphy netted a last-minute winner at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday and did the same when Stanley won 2-1 at Morecambe in October.

The Reds have not lost a league game against Morecambe since 2005, when both sides were still in the Conference, but Accrington have fared better on the road than at home this season.

Stanley have now won five of their last seven matches on their travels to edge up to 17th in League Two, although have only triumphed three times at home all season.

“I scored the winner at Morecambe too this season, that was another last minute goal, so another one against Morecambe would do nicely,” Murphy said.

“Home games are where we’ve got to start picking up points. Away from home we’ve been great recently but we need to start getting those results at home.

“We’ve won five out of the last seven away from home and that’s top of the league form, so if you can take that into the home games there’s no reason why we can’t start pushing up the table.

“We’ve got a great record against Morecambe and we want to keep it going.”

Murphy has now netted eight goals this season to beat his tally of five last term. Five of his goals in the current campaign have come in the last five minutes of matches.

“It’s getting a bit of a habit this season, isn’t it?” he laughed.

“I had a goal at the start of the season to match the number I got last season. I matched that so I want to kick on again. In my head I have a target for how many goals I want to get.”

Murphy is out of contract this summer and boss James Beattie admitted it could be tough to hold on to the midfielder if he keeps popping up with important goals.

“That’s a great compliment from the gaffer and since day one even when results weren’t going for us he just had belief in me and the team,” said the 23-year-old.

“I just want to concentrate on my football and keep going, hopefully get a few more goals and a few more points on the board.

“It’s brilliant working with the gaffer, he was a top lad last year, I got on well with him last year.

“It changes a bit when he goes into management but he hasn’t changed his attitude towards us, he’s still our friends but we have to have respect for him as well because he’s our manager.”
