ACCRINGTON Stanley boss James Beattie hailed his side’s victory at Cheltenham Town as they banished their issues with slow starts in matches.

The Reds had fallen behind in 22 of their previous 29 games this season but raced into a 2-0 half-time lead against Mark Yates’ Cheltenham thanks to goals from George Bowerman and Luke Joyce.

“It was reminiscent of the Scunthorpe performance for us,” said Beattie, recalling the 2-0 win at Glanford Park in November.

“It was a great away performance.

“We got off to a good start this week, which is very pleasing.

“I heard Mark Yates talking about their start and I feel for him because that’s how we’ve been starting games recently but this time it was different.

“We were winning headers, winning second balls and winning individual battles.

“When you’re on top in games you need to score and we did.

“It was a good finish from George and then Joycey has gone in and got one, which is a rarity and he’s happy with it.

“Peter Murphy was a little bit tired at that stage of the game and encouraged Joycey to get forward.

“We might be doing that a little bit more in future.”
