Blackburn Rovers to sign Accrington Stanley star Mahoney

This Is Lancashire: Connor Mahoney Connor Mahoney

BLACKBURN Rovers are on the verge of signing Accrington Stanley’s teenage whizzkid Connor Mahoney.

The skilful 16-year-old winger has made six appearances for Stanley’s first team this season and had been attracting the interest of several clubs.

Mahoney confirmed on Twitter that he had travelled to Brockhall for a medical, and providing the results are positive a deal is due to be completed on Thursday morning.

Stanley are set to receive compensation for the player, and are also likely to receive significant add-ons as Mahoney’s career progresses.

Well done Rovers for moving quickly for once whilst other clubs were circling. Sounds a good prospect and nothing lost if he doesn't make the grade.

They won't need it knobhead, Venky's own us and guess who we owe the money to? In case you don't know it's actually there in black and white, always assuming you can read.

Now, just who owns Burnley and are they billionaires?

Personally I doubt if they could afford to buy a Pizza on a Saturday night without coppering up.

Well, well, well.
Earlier in the season when he was coming off the bench the lad gave Accrington something we've been sorely missing in recent seasons - width and intent.
He showed adventure and intent and a real desire to run his man, although at the time his selection was probably more down to our injury situation than his undoubted ability as showed with the Rochdale game.
It's one thing to come on when players a tiring and just to play your natural game without fear, but quite another to follow tactical instruction in front of a loud and hostile derby crowd.
After that game he has fallen off the radar somewhat in terms of the first team match day squad as more experienced players have come in and back from injury. Undoubtedly the lad had a bundle of ability but is a move now really the right thing for him?
Remember John Bostock?
Surely its better for him to stay with Accrington for at least another season or two (after all its not impossible that Rovers will be in the same division as Stanley by then) but if he is going to go then it has to be for a six figure fee or else what incentive is there for lower league teams to promote young local talent?

It's good hearty banter, that's all !

On a serious note good luck to the lad. It's good to see local East Lancs talent coming through. I just hope you don't throw him on for the last ten minutes against us in march !!!

Let's hope he gets a fair crack of the whip and a chance to shine. Lend him back to Stanley for a while if we don't play him much.
