We never gave up, says Accrington Stanley boss Beattie

ACCRINGTON Stanley boss James Beattie praised his side’s character as they secured a last-gasp leveller in their 1-1 draw at home to Wycombe.
Peter Murphy netted deep into stoppage time, just as he had done in the win at Morecambe seven days earlier.
About Saturday’s equaliser, Beattie said: “Obviously we would have liked it to be a last minute winner but it just shows the spirit that’s been building and we’ve been trying to create within the team.
“It was evident last week when a few weeks ago it would have been Morecambe who scored in the last minute, but it was us. We showed again in this game that we’re not giving up on games when many people thought we were going to get beat.”
Reserving praise for the goalscorer Beattie said: “Murph has got a great knack of getting into the box and he’s not just someone who scored in the last minute, he’s a very valuable member of the team.
“He was probably the only person you’d have wanted the chance to fall to.”
