Clarets close in on new manager
BURNLEY co-chairman John Banaszkiewicz has revealed the new manager will be picked from a shortlist of “three or four” next week.
The Clarets board have spoken to at least 15 managers since Eddie Howe completed his return to Bournemouth to take charge for a second spell last Friday.
And they have narrowed the search down, with the intention of holding second interviews next week.
Banaszkiewicz was not prepared to rule anyone in or out in the hunt for Howe's successor, but said at this stage there was not a clear favourite.
“It's been quite an eventful week. We've been up and down the country and interviewed over 15 managers so far and we're going to shortlist them to three or four early next week and have second interviews as well.
“We're going to get the rest of the board involved because it's quite difficult right now to pick the best one because there are three or four really capable and hungry candidates for the job.
“I hope we will have an answer probably by next weekend in terms of who that candidate is.
“But at this stage we're not sure.
“My co-chairman Mike (Garlick) and I don't quite think 'yes, that's the guy' yet, so I think a second time round would be good, and we'll bring in Barry (Kilby), Brendan (Flood) and Clive (Holt) for the DNA to try to work out which one of those three or four is best.”
