POLL RESULT: Coyle return to Burnley is favourite for fans

Owen Coyle Owen Coyle

CONTROVERSIAL former Burnley manager Owen Coyle has been tipped for a return – by fans!

The Scot, who is out of work after being sacked by Bolton Wanderers last week, was the shock runaway winner of our online poll, which gave supporters the opportunity to name the man they want to see as Eddie Howe’s successor.

There was a surprising mix when it came to the fans’ choice, with no mention of former Claret Micky Mellon, who steered Fleetwood Town to promotion to the Football League for the first time in the club’s history.

Many supporters voiced their discontent at the idea of Coyle coming back to the club he quit in January 2010.

But when it came to the vote the manager who took Burnley into the Premier League came out on top.

Former midfielder Graham Alexander finished in second place, even though it would be his first managerial job.

Fans would also welcome a return for Steve Davis, the Crewe manager, or former Wolves boss Mick McCarthy who is understood to be the frontrunner for the post.

Your votes:

  • Owen Coyle: 50%
  • Graham Alexander: 16.6%
  • Mick McCarthy: 8.3%

My God you really do have a nerve! You've been without a manager for weeks and still haven't finished looking (or nobody wants the job!), Burnley spoke to Mick McCarthy within a couple of days! He and Coyle are managers who Rovers should have at least seen by now. Burnley the laughing stock! You must be having a laff! Go back to the Rovers page and see what real chaos is!

Is this one of the controlled opinion polls done on line by the LET!!! The sam sort of poll that showed Kean had massive support from the Rovers "fans" and that Venkys are the best owners that Rovers ever had.
.
Heres a clue, when the people voting for Coyle have user names like "Roverstillidie", "jackwalkersblueandw
hitearmy", "roverfoxy", "harwoodstblue", "ronnie clayton", "Rovers 1495", or any other combination of Rovers, Ewood, Blackburn, blue and white or Jack Walker then there is a good chance that they aren't really Burnley fans and are perhaps being a bit mischievous!!
.
disclaimer: names used are examples of Rovers fans that post on the LET not necessarily those that voted for Coyle :-)

This online poll was hijacked by Chicken Farmer fans from down the road. Just ignore it - it isn't going to happen. The Chief Exec has ruled it out and he would not be welcomed by the majority of fans. Crowds would fall away if the Board brought him back and they know they need to keep their fans united unlike the chicken farmers.

Oh dear, its a shame when all the fatherless Blackburn fans have to cheer about is sabotaging an online poll regarding Burnley's new manager.

Good luck with Gary Flitcroft - who has lead his side to the dizzy heights of midtable in the Unibond League.

Rovers - making other fans laugh since 1875

Suspect that this 'survey' was less than valid.

It's a bit sad for Coyle that only half of Burnley fans want back someone who took them to new and rather unexpected heights (perhaps that early on anyway). Seriously blotted his copybook for ever at Turf Moor.

There is no way that he would be welcomed back by the vast majority of the faithful. Asking half a dozen drunks on a Saturday night isn't exactly the standard that you would get from Gallup!

Mischievous and well out-of-touch journalism, methinks.

If that Poll is correct 50% for Coyle and I'm one of them, should be taken notice of. Grezza as his assistant,DREAM TEAM.I think they were the manager and the vice captain when the club was promoted to the Premier League in 2009.It's a great shame either left at all,the former because we are led to believe the board had no ambition whatsoever, and the latter because Eddie saw him as a threat, but having got rid of him then decides to jump ship himself.Coyle and Alexander were revered by the players in happy and very exciting times,so what has happened since they left speaks for itself. You cannot change the past but you can certainly change the future with what has happened in the past playing no part at all.

Totally agree, I'd like to know where the pollers LET used actually came from, on the original story asking for votes I could clearly see that many of the comments and 'votes' were from Rovers fans, but I suppose it gave them a buzz pretending to be fans of a real team with good prospects.

So a poxy poll in the LET is hijacked to show Coyle as favourite!

Bolton fans voted for a manager who achieved more at Burnley than he did at Bolton?

Dadless fans voted for a manager who achieved more at Burnley than Steve Kean did at BolEwood?

I'd be happy with Appleton

Meaningless result.
I doubt Coyle would be thick-skinned enough to make a return in any event, so it's just Phil Space reporting for the LET, which is about as valid as Suzanne Geldard's usual submission.

I think McCarthy's over-rated, (by about 8%), polling 8.3% of the votes. No ta !

No wonder you are a Fylde Exile when you express crackpot views in favour of Judas like that. You clearly must have no morals just like Coyle if you love him so much I suggest you go and join the donkey botherers as you live with them now.

Mick McCarthy or Michael Appleton please.

Someone with a bit of passion on the touchline instead of looking to his assistant and not breaking into a sweat at the latest group of players at Turf Moor that call themselves "A DEFENCE". At this rate we could reach a hundred goals conceeded unless somebody pulls this lot up by their shoelaces. Also, we want a manager who will not allow himself to have the rug pulled from underneath him by allowing players to be sold and that means keepimg hold of Charlie Austin come what may and if he does "throw his dummy out of his pram" he will have to face the wrath of the clarets fans irrespective of whether he is the country's top scorer. The appointment of our next manager will tell us fans quite a lot about the ambition or lack of ambition of the Burnley board. Mick McCarthy, Michael Appleton, Billy Davies or Michael Phelan would surfice. But Micky Mellon, David Unsworth, Steven Presley and the also-rans would spell disaster.

What you genitically challenged lightening fearers are missing is that any Rovers fans who took part in this little survey would have voted for Steve Kean.

Not Coyle.

Hence the lack of a proper breakdown of all the votes.

Genetically, not genitically.
Lightning not lightening.
Dependent (adjective) not dependant (noun).
Hypocrite, not hipocrite.
toothsome means tasty, savoury, delicious, (as in toothsome snack).
Scotch is a drink.

3/10. Could do better.

To Lord Lucan. Has Lord Lucan ever been found,.Burnley 59/60 totally agreed with me,and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but in this case how it is expressed is my main concern I've been supporting the Clarets since 1958,and seen the very best on offer.I felt elated in 2009 when my children and grandchildren got the chance and was sorry it was only for one season. However if you can't express an opinion in a less derogatory way than you did, then like Lord Lucan go and get lost for ever.

I was merely highlighting your spelling and grammar deficiencies in order that you may improve upon them, and you chose to reply in gutter-speak, confirming that you're a moron.

So that you may cause maximum offence in future (because that's clearly how you 'get-off'), consider that I'm three-score and some years and that my mother died over 10 years ago.

Go and **** on that one, you sad, sad excuse for a human-being.
