COMMENT: Coyle Clarets return would never work

ONE national newspaper yesterday speculated that Owen Coyle ‘intriguingly, may now return to his old club Burnley’.

Intriguing indeed. Impossible? Probably.

For starters, it is a hypothetical situation as long as Eddie Howe remains in charge at Turf Moor.

Murmurings about the possibility of the 34-year-old going back to former club Bournemouth to manage the Cherries once more have rumbled on ever since Paul Groves was relieved of his duties at the League One club last week.

I expect them, now, to come to nothing and Howe to continue with the Clarets (although the minute you think football can no longer surprise you, it jumps up and bites you on the behind).

But, when the time comes that Burnley are back in the hunt for a new manager – for whatever reason – could Coyle be the man?

In some senses, on paper, it isn’t the most unrealistic prospect in the world.

Only a handful of players affected by his departure remain with the club. Most have moved on. He proved himself to be the master of motivation during his two-and-a-bit year tenure, masterminding some magical results.

He knows the club, he knows the people. There would be considerable making up to do with the fans, undoubtedly, for the manner in which he left in January 2010 – but perhaps there is unfinished business here.

The board would have to be mindful of his shelf-life, though. Things start to turn a bit sour around the two-year mark, if not before, while tactics aren’t his forte. He likes Del Amitri, not Plan B.

But could that board work with Coyle again? Could they trust him?

No matter how much water has passed under the bridge those board members, those Burnley men, were hurt by the Scot. Anyone who heard Clive Holt’s emotional speech at Barry Kilby’s retirement dinner in May will know just how much.

The scars may have healed, but they are not invisible.

He gave me the best moment in my life at Wembley and I've seen the birth of my two kids(don't tell the wife!). Eddie not in the same league as OC! Boo boys will soon get back behind him with a few results! Are most Clarets happy with Eddie because he's a nice guy?? Not good enough as a manager, simple as that!

Have him back in a moment - remember the youth team in the semi final last season - that was Howe reaping the rewards of Coyles work. Look at boltons youth team this season.

Totally agree McClaret, has any other manager ever got Burnley into the Premier League? It may hard to get him back though, simply because maybe it was the total lack of ambition at Burnley that led him to leave in the first place. That may never be known, but with Grezza as his assistant would'nt that be ideal.

It WAS the "Total lack of ambition" why he left. See beyond the hate, he was the best manager you had for many a year. Owen for Burnley.

What probably happened was poor little Bonleh Lad had his first sexual experience by the canal on Bolton Road after the youth cup game.

One of the the Bonleh Suicide Squad popped his bum cherry. It's par for the course in Bonleh. They take turns to initiate the young 'uns while chanting "So, so, so inside". The dirty gets.

That's why he's over compensating on here pretending to be a hoolie.

Bless his little chav socks!

Whilst the majority of Burnley supporters would swear blind that they wouldn't want Coyle back, the reality is that most would quietly love it if Coyle came back. After all, he is the most successful Burnley manager in the last 30 years and gave supporters a once in a lifetime crack at the top fight. Clarets would happily forget everything with Coyle in the desperate hope he could repeat his 'miracle' of last time.

If Coyle did return it would show the footballing world the level of hypocrisy that there is at Burnley FC, especially after the vicious and personal abuse that Coyle has been subjected to over the last two years by Burnley 'fans'

Would Coyle even want to return? He left them the first time because they couldn't match his ambition and he didn't consider them big enough for his ambitions.
