BURNLEY manager Eddie Howe was disappointed not to be in with a chance of achieving a club record of 12 league away wins, but praised his players after last night’s goalless draw at Leicester City.

Charlie Austin came the closest to clinching it for the Clarets with two second half headers.

But Burnley had to settle for the point in the end.

“I said to the players before the game we were desperate to go for the 12 wins and make history for the football club, but it was a good point really,” said Howe, whose side can now only match the current record of 11 away wins with victory at Blackpool on Saturday in their penultimate game.

“I thought we were excellent in the first half, the second half was more of a defensive game for us. Leicester were on top, but we still had the best chances in the game in both halves and we’re disappointed not to have taken one of them.”

It is 20 years since the Clarets last ended a season with 11 away wins.

Howe had hoped to go one better, but they can only match the record in their last away game of the 2011/12 campaign.
