Laws is the loan ranger for Burnley

BURNLEY boss Brian Laws plans to hold back some of his summer budget to capitalise on new Premier League rules with September loan signings – but he hopes to find out whether Jack Cork will return to the club before then.

Laws has already brought in Dean Marney, Chris Iwelumo, Ross Wallace and Lee Grant this summer but is now likely to wait for loan opportunities before moving back into the market.

Under new regulations introduced for this season, Premier League teams must each name a 25-man squad on September 1 and any players over the age of 21 who are not included will be unable to play for their parent clubs in league matches until the transfer window reopens on January 1.

Laws expects that will leave a number of talented players looking for loan moves to play regular football and believes some of his remaining budget could be best spent on temporary deals once the transfer window shuts.

“We've got a few options and we're just keeping our powder dry at the moment,” said the Clarets chief.

“We've still got funds available but we are looking at options.

"We're not doing anything immediately.

“With Premier League clubs having to name 25-man squads now there are going to be a lot of players who are going to have to go out on loan or they are not going to play.

“That is going to be a real benefit for all Football League clubs, so we're just holding some of our budget back.”

One Premier League player who Burnley still hope to sign before the closure of the transfer window is Cork, who impressed on loan at Turf Moor during the second half of last season.

The 21-year-old midfielder has been linked this week with a season-long loan move to fellow Championship club Swansea, where Cork’s former Chelsea youth team coach Brendan Rodgers is now manager.

Swansea, once managed by Jack’s father Alan, want to tie up a deal before the season starts on August 7 but Laws is still keen to bring the player back to Burnley.

Cork was said to be open to a Turf Moor return - either on loan or permanently - but may be swayed if he gets the chance to play in the top flight.

“We've had dialogue with Chelsea and Jack Cork's agent, so our finger is very much on the pulse with that,” he said.

“We would love to have him back here but Jack is just weighing things up at the moment because obviously he wants to play in the Premier League, which is understandable.

“But I would expect to hear an answer on that one before the transfer window shuts.”

Why not simply buy up Accy Stanley, it'd cost nowt and they're clearly a match for the current Burnley side.
Laws' pronouncements, sadly fill me with nothing but dread with not a shred of optimism.

Laws is taking a lot for granted the deluded fool.

There is every chance he could get sacked before September is out if the team gets off to a bad start.

He says he is keeping what's left of his budget back. He has only spent £2.5 million and they got £7.5 million for Fletcher.

By my maths, he still has at least £5 million to spend before the season starts - not to mention the £17.5 million parachute money and the seson ticket money.

Kilby is taking the p**s out of all loyal Clarets fans.

I agree, if we are gonna have a realistic prospect of goin back up, spend some money on good players, seems like we're mainly relying on what we have, which we can 'make do with', when if we're really pushin to get up get some outstanding players bought! Kilby is takin the p***, we also hot a cool Million from the new shirt sponsers, I think they know that Burnley fans are loyal to a fault, and they can do what they like without creating much trouble. My instinct tells me Laws isn't the man for the job, but we've got to give him a shot at it this season, and get behind the guy. Fans should maybe question the board more and not the players/manager.

I have a novel idea - why don't we wait until the season actually starts before we decide if the squad we have got (including the signings made by Laws) can cut the mustard?
.
All this worrying and we should have don this and that threads are pointless - basically we needed a big striker - we have got Iwelumo; we urgently needed a left winger - we bought Wallace; Central midfield needed strengthening - we bought Marney; Jensen needed replacing - we bought Grant.
.
In my view we are well set now for a good campaign, we possibly could do with Jack Cork (particularly if McCann isn't going to be fit) and another striker as I don't think Jay Rod is the answer, but other than that I think we will be fine, and with the likes of Elliot, Thompson, Carlisle, McDonald etc on the bench - we have possibly the strongest squad in the division.
.

Wake up with you stupid numpty comments.

Laws has signed some excellent signings so far and next season we'll be a lot stronger than if that muppet who went down the road would of been here.

Tetley you drunken fool - Burnley stepped off a plane late on Monday after a flight from Singapore and then played a FRIENDLY against Accy Stanley 24 hours later, which, although we started slowly, hammered them in the second half and should have won comfortably - at least we didn't lose.
.
What about your boys? Lost every one of your pre-season games including defeats against the likes of PNE and Huddersfield, so I suggest you get your own Blackburn house in order before you start giving Burnley some grief you simple tool.

Was that not the excuse last year as well?Exactly what about my boys : beating pub teams and cant even put one over on the modern equivalent of Colne Dynamoes.

Your references to Blackburn reveal you for an ignoramous : half the sides were reserve team or fringe players unlike the Accy Stanley humiliation. But that of course is a minor issue compared with their 10th successive season in the Premier League and 17 out of 19 sinvce its formation in 1992. Apologies for pointing out a few unpalatable facts : now get back to the Clartets Mad board - thats if you can read the type through the dense haze of Skunk smoke generated by its contributors;-)

batfastard says...
3:16pm Thu 29 Jul 10

What humiliation you dunce? - a draw against Accy? Explain your boys' 3-0 spanking at the hands of PNE to me then? You had a full strength side out, so no excuses about reserve teamers - you got mullered - by Preston, who have been selling their best players all summer long.
.
I expect you will put your own skunk joint into your ashtray and start mentioning the fact that we once got beat by Wimbledon and Telford etc etc yadda yadda yadda.
.
Your rhetoric is boring to say the least - we are unbeaten in pre-season - you meanwhile have lost EVERY game.
.
Put THAT in your crack-pipe and smoke it

Now that i've got away from the lawnmover, weedkiller and others I've found some time to comment.

Can't say I have missed the likes of 'BobinSpain, Tetleydrinker and Howardclaret' whingeing moaning non attending the Turf hypocrites. They pontifiicate all the time how bad BFC is gleaning all their "Knowledge" from internets stats. or TV. But in the case of Tetley plucked out of his poor deluded imagination (I would have said brain, but from the way he bounces around BFC & BRFC and judging from his swinging whingeing I would say he's a no brainer and in fact I wish genuine supporters would ignore him then he's "wither on the Vine" like his other personna Ossyclaret. Its ashamed to wear the shirt stuff but then I and plenty of other have been like that since about 1986 ; 3-0 defeat to Telford United in the FA Cup and all that;-)

The real picture about a season becomes clear at the end of February / early March : you would be well advised to reserve judgment until then.

I do very season for every team in every league. Over the course of a season the real picture only becomes clear in about early March, and even then in tight situations it can change dramatically inb the last 6 weeks or so. That applies at both ends of tables. Look at the Burnley vs Blackburn siuations last season : very different in the last month-6 weeks from the first two months.

I'm afraid you appear to have forgotten that some of your comments in the past, have not always been directed at Mr. Laws but also at BFC in general. Your postings with a tendency towards the negative, do not give the impression of being a true supporter. In similar circumstances to yourself I have full experience in man management having founded and eventually selling my own company, which at its peak employed more than 50 people. Which is why (using man management skills) you need to get the best out of the assets you have and encourage your people to do well in supporting them, thus giving them a chance to prove themselves.

The season hasn't started yet - Mr.
Laws took a poisoned Chalice last season (damned if he did & damned if he didn't) - so come, on start on a positive note and then use negatives if/and when required

I don't need to check the meaning of hypocrite, being fully conversant with its meaning.

I feel the usage of this word to be totally correct in view of some of your statements, where you profess to be a BFC supporter and yet pour scorn in many of your comments giving the appearance to the contrary of the word "Supporter" - i.e "Propounding one faith/belief whilst practising another" Further propogated by your often agreeing with the complete bigoted fool Tetleydrinker, who appears to have morphed himself yet again as nontetleydrinker in another item.

Notwithstanding I wish you well and hope some day you may have the chance to return to the fold and get the real experience of being on the Turf, which is where all true BFC supporters should be - i.e. putting their money where their mouths are and getting behind the team. I agree with the previous comments about Laws, he was given a poison chalice and i think he is trying to do his best on limited funds, he needs to be given a chance, not just for him, but for the team and club in general, all the negative comments when the guy aint really been given a good crack of the whip yet is unfair, and just creates unease in the fans, club and team. I aint saying he's gonna be the best manager we've ever had but at least give him a good chance to prove himself. Surely and hopefully he must have gained some insight into good strong management with his time under cloughie. Up the clarets, bring on the season, lets be positive, I think we have every chance of being in the prem again next year.

From the time you have spent in Burnley I would say 'ephemera' is more appropriate to you. Your sarcasm is noted but would respond by stating that having had a good education via Tod Rd. Jnrs - Burnley Grammar - Reading University I chose to repay the place where I was born and raised by giving back to the area chances of employment to Burnley people. Sadly, it seems to have become the norm for people such as you to grab, rush away and then denigrate anything in relation to their home town. I would also condemn the advice given (as you state) by your headmaster; sadly he chose to be head of a Burnley school then run down the area where he came voluntarily. As I said previously - hypocritical views which now appear to be given to you by your tutors.
