GOALKEEPER Lee Grant could wrap up his move to Turf Moor today after Burnley agreed a fee with Sheffield Wednesday at the fourth time of asking.

An improved bid in the region of £1m – with possible £500,000 add-ons – was yesterday accepted by the cash-strapped Owls following three earlier offers that had been rejected.

The 27-year-old is now to thrash out personal terms with the Clarets as manager Brian Laws looks to conclude his fourth summer signing.

Laws and Burnley goalkeeping coach Billy Mercer enjoyed a good relationship with Grant for two-and-a-half years at Hillsborough.

And now they are set to be reunited after Wednesday - who were served with a winding-up order last week over outstanding tax debts - relented to Burnley pressure for their number one.

Initial offers of below £1m were turned down by the League One club, but a much-improved bid has finally given Laws the green light to snap up the former England U21 goalkeeper.

Grant has made 145 appearances for Wednesday since joining from Derby County on a free transfer in 2007.

He spent a month on loan at Turf Moor in the 2005/06 season, as cover for Brian Jensen and Danny Coyne, and made one appearance against Leicester City.

If personal terms are agreed, the Hemel Hempstead-born stopper could link up with his new Burnley team-mates within the next 24 hours.

The Clarets arrived back in Britain today from their successful three-game trip to Singapore, which culminated with a 1-0 victory over a Singapore Select XI.

Chris Eagles smashed home a second-half winner as Burnley racked up three wins - scoring 11 goals and conceding none - during their Asian Challenge Cup campaign in the Far East.

“This win finishes the tour off well for us and we thank all the people in Singapore for their hospitality,” said Laws.

“They have been first class and we can only say very good things about the city and its people.

“Hopefully, after today, we have won one or two fans.

“Now we have a further two games to play (one behind closed doors) and that will hopefully get us to our maximum and mentally and physically prepared for the first game.

“You have to mentally tough to come here and cope with the conditions, but I have been delighted and now I hope we can keep winning games and maintain that winning mentality."

A stunning free-kick from Eagles was enough to overcome a stern challenge from the Singapore XI and Laws was delighted with the contribution from his in-demand winger.

The Clarets boss added: “I think we did enough to win the game and it was a great goal from Chris to win it.

“We know he has the ability to score goals out of nothing, particularly as set plays.

“He is exciting and pleasing to the eye and it was perhaps fitting that he scored the goal that won the game.

“We are certainly pleased with him and we hope he is still with us at the start of the season.”
